Cutting of BS following WT plan: No more personal study or research!
by WingCommander insince it seems the cats out of the bag on the book study being eliminated from small groups at homes, i feel it ok to discuss the "why" of the society's actions on this manner.
many seem to be confused as to why the wt would eliminate another evening of busywork.
some see it as a loosening of the riens on the wt's part to let the congregation breathe.....i see it as the complete opposite....i see it as another control tactic, one that has been in the works for a while.

If they are so worried about retention why wait eight months before this takes effect? It should be immediate!
"Starting in May, we will dissolve home book studies and combine the spiritual banquet on Thursday nights."
There. Simple.
Why wait?

Why on earth would they make this announcement eight months before it goes into effect? My thinking was it was to be effective immediately. Doesn't make sense.

Emotional Reactions to the Loss of the Book Study
by DT ini think the loss of the book study will hit some like a death of a friend.
it will mark the end of an era.
it will forever change the religion of jehovah's witnesses and i believe the change is completely irreversible.. of course, most witnesses will be delighted by this.

What you said about friendship really hit home with me. Before I married my wife, I was best friends with her brother. Their whole family are Jehovah's Witnesses. Anyhow, him and I could get seriously obnoxious and laugh for hours. It was one of those friendships where you can be totally yourself ... act stupid ... say dumb things ... goof off. It was great! There was nothing we couldn't talk about. Keep in mind that I wasn't a Jehovah's Witness when I met him. Years later, I dated his sister. It was recommended that I check out the JW religion and I did. Seemed harmless. People were friendly. Okay, so no biggie - I'll become a JW. We get married and everything is great ... not because of the religion, but my best friend is now my brother-in-law and we can hang out more. It was awesome! We did so much together as friends and family. The talks and humor would have made the WTBTS blush. LOL! Seriously, we were so obnoxious! Always had a great time when we have drinks together and just everytime we hung out (all four of us: me, my wife, brother-in-law and his wife).
Fast forward to January 2008, I start researching the history of the organization and start questioning its validity. Once I submitted my letter of disassociation ... all those years of friendship were like they never happened. My wife "accepts" my decision, but doesn't want to hear the proof of my research. My brother-in-law (best friends, remember?) loses sleep for a week and gets physically sick and tries to get me to ignore everything I've read ... he no longer talks to me.
I'll sum it up ... conditional friendships suck! They aren't real. If any Jehovah's Witnesses think the brotherly love is real in their Kingdom Hall ... test it! True friendships can survive anything! Anything!
It's beyond sad.

Did you ever love Jehovah more than anything else?
by nbernat inyou know that the wts teaches you're supposed to love jehovah above all else including your kids/spouses/parents.
.
.did any of you get to that point?
-
sacolton
The WT doesn't teach how to LOVE Jehovah. Just how to please the organization and manipulate you into doing the things it wants you do to "in the name of Jehovah". If you refuse, then they lay a guilt-trip so fucking thick with "don't you love Jehovah?" that you have no other choice. It was all about LOVING the organization.

new initiative
by Lizzie inim new to the site, was brought up in 'the truth' but stopped going about three years ago.
my dad has been an elder all my life and as far as elders go he is one of the most 'normal' if you know what i mean.
anyway him and his best friend who is also an elder were suddenly removed last month for attending their daughters weddings (both were baptised but stopped going around 5years ago but werent ever disfellowshipped).

It can't be a control tactic because they could have easily just done away with "home" book studies and reel everyone back into the Kingdumb Hall on Monday or Tuesday nights. They didn't HAVE to sacrifice the Book Study night at all!
There must be another reason. Perhaps they have to limit the access of pedophiles to children and this was ONE way of doing so. Maybe the legal department was weighing down on the GB to make something happen to decrease the law suits flying into their division.

I can only imagine how the hard-liners and old-timers will feel about this news. They would probably see this as unfair since they did this routine for DECADES ... and now THIS?!! Some bitterness towards how the new generation is having it so easy and the organization is being "soft". I think some feelings are going to be hurt.
