Do we have non-Biblical evidence that Jesus Christ existed?
by Inquisitor inwhat non-biblical, historical evidence proves or supports the notion that jesus once existed as a living, breathing jewish man?
i'll start with the one that i used to swear by back when i was a good jw.

I guess, that if I knew that question I would be God. If I was God and people didn't believe in me, then I would snuff them out of existence at the moment of their lack of faith.
Well I'm damn glad your not god then.
That's about the same as witnesses saying apostates should be dead or killed if the law allowed for it. So, you think if people have honest doubts about god, he should kill them when they are not CONVINCED he really exists? How special

Do you have any kind of obsession?
by JH ini'm obsessed with new cars.
i'd trade a $50,000 car for a brand new $40,000 one the year after, and trade it again for a $30,000 brand new one the year later, and trade it again for a $20,000 one year after that.
as long as i get a new one every year or so, i love the feeling, even if it's less equipped.

You'd think if Jesus was up there watchin right now.....lookin at everybody tryin to find out if he's real or not......the fella would give some kinda sign doncha think? Why doesn't he? Give me one good reason WHY Jesus or his pa, doesn't provide authenticity of Jesus existence other than ancient writing that are held with question marks behind them? Why would he want us to demonstrate faith on weak evidence?

I find this JW behaviour disrespectful
by Bumble Bee inon saturday i was at a cousin's wedding.
neither bride or groom was jw, although her mother (my aunt) was jw but was df'd for smoking way back in the early '70's and i doubt the bride (my cousin) remembers anything anymore.. her older brother said a prayer before the dinner.
it was a very beautiful prayer imho, and maybe he remembers a bit more of the jw experience, it started and ended like what you'd hear in a kh, but the middle was actually said from the heart and filled with love for the new couple and our family and the friends present.. i bowed my head and said amen afterwards.

The Church Fathers cannot be read uncritically. It is obvious from the New Testament that doctrinal confusion, legalism, and gnostic error were beginning to find their way into the church even before the canon was closed.
The writings of the Church Fathers are not free from such influences. Moreover, the next three centuries were a long chronicle of doctrinal conflict, and these men whom we call Church Fathers did not always agree with one another.
They may have been sincere ( some of them perhaps), but in time they attached to much importance to a Governing Body type of arrangement as they felt some type of control was needed to handle such a following as christianity and needed to be "controlled" as do all groups that become large.....needing "chiefs" to guide the indians. Sadly...man being man.... the objective is destroyed in it's efforts in attainment....or from greed and a lust for power and control.

Since the bible is the only source recognised by christians as the source of info for that time
Actually, you also have the writings of the Church Fathers in addition to the writings that eventually became part of the New Testament
Jeff....wouldn't you have to say that the word 'Church Fathers' and 'Governing Body' are synonymous from your point of view? I'd say most christians put more stock in the bible supposed authors and christ himself over the "church fathers". It was them who decided things, demanded things, enforced things. They took it upon themselves to act as Jesus spokesman....just like the Governing Body of today.Gumby

Gumby:
But secondhand information is what we use to validate most things in life, from the newspapers to reviews about a car we have our eye on.True ....my heathen apostate good friend, but people do not die for, base their life upon, and direct their lives through these means as they do in christ. We're not comparin apples to apples here. Also...people get burned from false advertising and they expect they might get burned. I've bought many things on faith...only to be let down.
Terry...of course it's the real me....you think I'm that deceitful??? It looks like I ain't got a dinger in my pics....but I do, I promise.
