josephus as most know, was a jewish/roman 1st century historian.
he was well respected by the roman community and christians were zealous readers of his works.. he is one person christians use as a solid basis for proof of jesus earthly existence.
here is a quote that is used by some christians who strongly believe these words came from the hand of josephus himself,"now, there was about this time, jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man, for he was a doer of wonderful works, a teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure.
Undisfellowshipped,
Gumby,
You said that the "Church Fathers Purposely Lied about Jesus." For argument's sake, let's say you are correct and Eusebius did purposely lie when quoting Josephus. That is still only one "church father." Who are the other "church fathers" who PURPOSELY lied?
The point was.....the famous paragraph of Josephus was spurious.....yet used as proof.
Do you actually think by the 4th century that Eusebius was the only one who knew about his little scheme? All the church fathers KNEW that paragraph wasn't their in the original writings of Josephus yet they too built upon it after it was lyingly put there. If you want more smut on the faithfulness of church fathers....there's plenty to choose from. Do a little reading on church fathers during this time.

Think about it, why on this earth were so many Christians prepared to die at the hands of emporer Nero a short while after Jesus death
Perhaps for the same reason ones were willing to roast alive in Waco Texas for a guy named David Koresh. People have died for people and their rules.... and for unseen deity since man began.
LT,
You seem to have a strange and very much JW-centric view of what the bible is about. It seems to me that you're applying modern rules to it that completely miss the point. Why do YOU think it was written / compiled?
No, all I was doing was showing how the one and only proof we had from a 1st century historian concerning the truthfulness of Jesus existence was lied about yet built upon by others.
*kicks LT in the nutsack then runs*

Narkster....thanks for the reply buddy.
I suppose I should not have grouped Eusebius with a Historian. Christian apologists should not be put into the same basket with a historian such as was Josephus. His job was to record facts...Eusebius's job was to kiss constantines arse and work for political/religious control.

and still another tidbit,
Quote) ..."as the divine prophets had foretold these and ten thousand other wonderful things concerning him; and the tribe of Christians, so named from him, are not extinct at this day."
Actually, there was no "tribe" of christians in Josephus's day since christians never got really started till the 2nd century.
So then.....who might have put in those spurious words claimed to be those Josephus?
How about a self proclaimed liar bishop called Eusebius in the 4th century since he is the FIRST to mention this famous paragraph of Josephus? He was the one who was well known in sayin" it wasn't a sin to lie for god if it means advancing christianity"...or something to that effect. He's the culprit bastard and I say we hang the guy when he gets resurrected ( these were all the negative emoticons I could muster up)

Hi bliss....nice to hear from you again.

recently i had the pleasure to examine a stash of 1920s and 1930s golden age magazines, among the rarest of watchtower publications.
i thought it would be a fun idea to have a thread in which i share with you some of the amazing, ridiculous, hilarious things contained therein.
hence, this is the first post of a series of excerpts, scans, etc.
Please be assured, first, that Jehovah's witnesses are not a religious group nor a religious organization, that they are Christians duly devoted to following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ; second, I am making no effort to advance the welfare of Jehovah's witnesses or any other organization
