apparently, the carvakas in anceint hinduism were materialists and skeptics, arguing that consciousness ends with the death of the body and that therefore we should take pleasure in this life while we possess it and practice compassion toward others.
they also argued that direct observation is the only certain way to know anything, and thus the existence of supernatural forces and realities cannot be established and must be rejected.
Hairtrigger is right. I'm Catholic now and I definitely believe in life after death but it is strange at first for an ex-jw to embrace that concept. My grandpa "visited" my JW mother six months after he died, and she's an uber-JW but acknowledged it happened. Some things in this world can't be explained any other way than that there is a consciousness that survives death of the body. JMHO.

here's a thought: we're told over and over how employers sing the praises of their jw employees, sometimes with a vague quote about how 'if we could only hire jws, we would as they are so honest'.
however, while some jw employers themselves may hire jw employees (usually cheap entry level positions), most don't.
in fact, many jw's in general who have businesses have a rule not to do work with jws, even those in their congregation.

The JWs are the apostates. They started with Christianity and twisted it and turned into something unrecognizable and called it "the Truth." From a Christian standpoint, it's the JWs who are the problem. If you are bringing their errors to light, you are not an apostate but a whistleblower.

this thread isn't meant to go into discussing how deceptive the society has been over the translation of this passage of scripture as that has been done many times on here.
what i want to know is this - the society has inserted the word other in the collosions verses and the one in philippians (above every (other) name).
they've done this for doctrinal matters.
objectivetruth, there are 73 books in the Bible as the church fathers declared. They were reduced to 66 books in the Reformation but the Catholics and Orthodox still use the 73 books they have always used. Even the original KJV had 73 until some Reformers objected and had them removed.
