hello folks,.

i feel like a fish who has been struggling for oxygen so long he's almost dead.

I was born in, in 1950, and stayed in till 2008, so I guess I am only a little younger than you, of the same over-lapping generation (Tee Hee), and share many of your experiences, though I have always been in the U.K

When I first joined this forum I was of a very similar mind to you, I will be interested as time goes on, to see where your spiritual journey takes you.

I detect that you are a man who, like me, has a Bible trained conscience, something the WT talks about, but they do not really want you to have,they want you to have a WT trained conscience, one they can re-mould at any time to keep you following them.

May you find peace and happiness, and your loved ones along with you.

Welcome ! You will find most things have been discussed at length on here, the "search" button will help you find threads, as to the beard thing, minor though it is compared to other problems with the religion, it does illustrate how they like to control without any scriptural or even logical justification.

I wore a beard from 1975 till 1988, I served as a MS during that time and gave Public Talks, often visiting other congregations, it wasn't a problem until they wanted to use me on a Circuit Assembly programme, what a joke !

Don't worry about starting threads on subjects already covered, or about asking questions we may have answered before, it is good for new readers to see the matters dealt with, even if for us old-timers on here it is going over old ground.

It does us good to re-affirm our "faith" Tee Hee !

when i told her the nature of my problems, she told me about this great online forum for jws...... ...seems like i'm not the first jw she's seen!.

Dear MM, what kind of counsellor have you employed ? PM me if you don't want it too public, I was just wondering because I know an XjW who I believe could benefit from some sort of therapy, and I don't know quite what to recommend.

theology is the study of religion and religions are human systems of spirituality.

it could then be said that theology is the study of the applications of human spirituality.

human spirituality is a chosen way of life.

"Someone who falls from truth" . That definition will open a whole can of worms, it means that anyone who is told by you what to believe, your truth, and then rejects your truth, is an Apostate .

Your truth consists of unprovable assertions based on emotion, why should anyone be labelled anything but sensible for rejecting your "truth" ?

Thanks for writing as much of your story as you can. I too was born in, and stayed in for 58 sodding years ! My wife left with me,in 2008, so I was very lucky, it is taking her longer to get rid of the JW influence than me, I never bought in to the whole thing anywhere near 100%, she was always telling me off as I pointed out logical fallacies and utter B.S etc.over the years.

All my close family are still in, my 91 yr. old mum, sisters , nephews and nieces and their children etc. and I don't hold out much hope of getting them to wake up, god knows, I have tried.

Good luck for the future, just show your wife how much you love her, put her first in everything except JW stuff, you don't have to do that, make her time with you much better than the time she spends with the JW's, that way she will eventually wake up as to who really loves her.

Question for the Athiests/Agnostics

some people feel they need a religion, and need to attend a church.

if such a person starts questioning the watchtower and they asked you "where else to go?

", what would you recommend?.

Great thread JWF, I have noticed with a number that have left JW's they seem to feel there is a void in their life, they see it as a god-shaped hole, that they need to fill.

It was never a problem for me, I already had other activities, and true friends who had never been JW's, but some, like my own wife, find it hard that all their friends, and of course many relatives, are now strangers to us.

I think, especially for those who have the god gene, it is an early reaction to try to find a church that suits, but they make it harder for themselves to do that by hanging on to JW ideas like the Trinity is "false". When I was in the stage of still believing in a god, I examined the trinity, as the doctrine is understood by Christians , and could find no way to disprove it from a christian perspective.

Jehovah's Witnesses are woefully un-educated, it is a ploy of the WT to exert control, how can you make proper decisions that will lead to your happinesss if you do not educate yourself on matters ?

I would suggest to such ones that they read the excellent books mentioned on the thread for XJw's about suitable books, and then they may find, as I did, that they don't need, or want, a religion, a church or a god.

I have never been happier than I am now, free from all bullshit.

Why the fetish with NICOTINE???

i have smoked, i quit, but now enjoy alternatives such as e-cigs, snus, and even the gum.

i find that nicotine has a nice mental enhancement, has several medical benefits and actually may help individuals to relax and focus.

now the question is this, why does the wts have such a fetish with nicotine?

Every time you talk to a Dub, craftily stick a patch on them, or offer them the gum, unwrapped of course, soon get them all at it !

We had a guy who got away with smoking for over thirty years, got D.F'd about 18 months ago, mind you, he was a bit blatant, he had a quick drag in the K.H bog once, and as my friend walked in, he flushed it away, and denied it was him ! said a "person of interest just left " LOL

I liked the guy, a bit thick, and still owes me money, but what the hell, the sad thing is I heard he is trying to get re-instated, silly bugger.

What is Your Experience with Non-Christian Religions and Philosophy ONLY?

i have been slow to start a thread because i wanted to see what topics were already being discussed.

having left wt i have a disdain for organized christian religion at the moment.

i am interested in your experience, research or observations about non-christian religions and philosophy only.

It is a great journey too ! I have travelled a long way since leaving the JW/WT in early 2008.

I have come to the conclusion that all religions are invented by men, and that there is no proof, that would stand scientific and forensic scrutiny, for the existence of a god or goddess or spirits etc etc.

I have decided that, after 58 years of believing bullshit, I will not be duped anymore, hence when I saw a book entitled "Believing Bullshit" I was drawn to it.

It is written by Stephen Law, a philosopher, and published by Prometheus Books N.Y, and is mainly about the methods used by various con artisits and misguided people to suck you in.

I recommend you read it before travelling too much further, it could save you a lot of time, as it has me, let alone heartache, which can come from going down too many blind alleys.

We had a family join our Congo, the wife was known for forming a clique, then moving on to others in her former congo, and forming a new clique.

What she didn't realise was, our Congo was one big clique, we didn't want people to come and join us, unless they were real party animals, then they were straigt in as clique members. As long as they bought their round, they were O.K

She had several goes over the years at playing her divide and rule games, didn't work though, maybe she has settled down now, as she has the power she wants, her husband is now head Honcho, I mean Coboe.

I was born in, in 1950, so I experienced what you mean dear Joliette, having no frame of reference, I thought it was normal, the Boot Camp attitude.

They even used a lot of military expressions and examples.

When I was entering my rebellious teens, I questioned the chief Nazi in our congreagation about it, for once he softened, laughed, and said "You have to make allowance for us guys, most of us served in the Army in WW2 and we tend to want to run the congregation like a military machine"

His honest assesment didn't change his attitude or methods, I think he single handedly caused more people to leave the religion than the Congo. itself brought in !

It seems they are becoming more controlling and harsh as time goes on, GOOD, they will have the same effect as Bro. Nazi above.
