  as some of you know by now, i spent sunday, 7 august, renewing ties with a dear friend.

  we're both disfellowshipped, the difference between us being he is seeking reinstatement and i am not.

  we got into some very spirited discussions on different bible topics and one of them was the value of the new world translation itself.

  I wonder why you like the NWT Quendi ? I find it stilted, colourless, and in places downright dishonest.

  It is not a "Translation" I would recommend , apart from someone wishing to see examples of theolgical bias used to a huge extent.

  I do not believe it to be a translation in fact, it seems that those involved in working on it consulted many translations and paraphrases, and if they were not sure, tried to see what the manuscripts said without real knowledge of the original language, they relied heavily on the work of Westcott and Hort, a source that scholarship has made somewhat dated in many renderings.

  There are many good translations out there, the NWT is very poor in so many ways, hence it does not appear on scripture comparison websites.

  Thanks for posting, I was accused above of having a "crap liberal opinion" ,whatever that may be, but that article put in to words in a much better way than I could, what I was trying to say.

  The underlying problems that cause the riots should not be ignored.

  i wanted to relate this experience i had on sunday while renewing ties with an old friend.

  we argued about the meaning of daniel 4 and nebuchadnezzar's "tree dream".

  my friend had insisted this dream told the reader the length of the gentile times.

  I think the WT is aware of the length of a lunar year, which is not 360 days, they call 360 days the length of a prophetic year , and as you rightly say, promptly discard it in the 2520 years.

  As another thread put it," however you calculate, end up at 1914"

  Edited to add , I wrote this before your reply to the point about a test dear Shelby, neatly sidestepped !

  But it gives me no confidence in your messages from your lord, you will say that BOHM or me not hearing is our lack of faith, just as the faith-healer does when the person he has exhorted to throw away his crutches falls over !

  today i am very sad.

  at the convention i met the sister i had a crush on at 16 years... (25 years ago!)..

  we're both married (with someone else) and i found out she has had a lot of problems.. and i'm finding out i still want to have a dinner with her..

  Well done Quendi ! you are making him (or is it her?) do the work, and making your friend think.

  Even if the jump to Revelation had been made, on what basis ? It had not been written in the time of Daniel, and if "Daniel" had meant a specific number of days, as you say, he would have spelled them out. "Times" is too ambivalent, how many days in a time?

  The justification for saying 360 days in a time by Fred Franz and the WT is just laughable.

  It was reading Daniel without WT specs on, back in early 2007, that made me sit up and think "Hey ! the fulfillment is at the end of the chapter !" , 7 times passed over the King, I realised that 2520 was not in scripture, and therefore 1914 was not a date to be connected with Bible prophecy.

  Very soon the WT house of cards fell down for me, I left, for good, in all senses of the word, in early 2008.

  Let us hope your excellent reasonings and questions lead your friend to make a similar decision.

  Surely if Shelby's Lord is who she says He is, He could answer our questions on Black Holes, what existed before our Universe etc. etc ???

  Just wait awhile for the "You must not put God to the test" type answer.
