  Do Not Let Your Opponent Define You...

  i recently went to a class offered by my local chamber of commerce that teaches people how to run an election campaign.

  i did this because a good friend of mine asked me to assist him in getting elected to a local county office.

  i'm highly involved in politics, now, and thought it would be something fun to do.. one point that really struck a chord with me went something like this:.

  Good thread Truth-be-Known, I have long hated the way the WT labels everybody, and even the terms they sometimes use, to label people "Worldly" or "Apostate" is bad enough, but I always hated it when they would refer to the love of your life and your life-long parner as your "mate", animals have mates.

  They would define me by any number of their derogatory terms if asked to describe what I was, but I describe myself as a "Rational Humanist".

  I too, am not an "Inactive publisher", as that implies that I could become active again for the WT, and that ain't gonna happen !

  Apostate ? no, I didn't leave the religion, it left me.

  Yup, Rational Humanist, that defines me, and you could add part-time drunk and good-time Charlie..

  Welcome Iarts, and all new posters, and new readers !

  Just remember that there is a wealth of experience of the ups and downs of leaving the WT on this site.

  Decide what you want to achieve, whether to be DF'd or to DA yourself or simply fade away so they leave you to live your life, whatever you wish, people on here have done it, so ask first before any rash moves, some have brought about situations and then regretted it.

  But, big WELCOME again to all new ones !

  I agree we should remember those that sacrificed so much, and still do, so I give to the poppy appeal, and wear my poppy, stuff you Witlessess, and I give to "Help for Heroes" a charity for injured service men and women.

  A guy in my old Congo who spent some years in Beth-Hell said that he would never send his children there, he said it was just work and no spirituality.

  He is still a hardcore JW though, I just hope your young friend finds the strength to assert his own right to make up his own mind based on having all available information to help him do so.

  If he was thinking of going to live in North Korea would he just listen to commited NK people,

  and just get info from their party HQ ? Silly boy if he did.

  Thanks Mark, well presented arguments on your blog, I do hope it reaches active JW's, the "honest hearted" (to use a WT propaganda/mind control phrase) amongst them will respond no doubt.

  I love the point you make that as the various shafts of "New Light" are accepted by JW's , they become Serial Apostates themselves !

  The Garden of Eden = The Fertile Crescent? The Bible's Myths...

  recently i've noticed a theory spreading around the scientific/philosophical world that the garden of eden was simply a myth of the fertile crescent.

  it's sounds plausible when you actually think about it.

  there are multiple different theories concerning it, but the most famous one is that the original hebrews were cast out of the area by a more powerful tribe, and doomed to live in the outside-non-civilized wild world.

  Dear Leo, please do give us your thoughts on this, my very first doubts about Bible literalism as taught by the WT were when as a very young person, early teens, I discovered the many myths that paralleled the bible stories, but I did not have the tools in those days to investigate properly.

  The book I read that made me interested was Alexander Hislop's "The Two Babylons", available at all KingdomHalls at the time !

  I have since learned of the paucity of true scholarship in that particular work, but it started me off.

  So please, tell us more !

  about 9 months ago cantleave did a brilliant interview on the radio.

  i know many responded to it by writing to them and it seems like they are now responding and i wondered who else has had a reply in the last couple of days regarding being interviewed?

  Is this a BBC local station Amelia ? if so, I made it plain where I live, so they would probably not contact me, although I said I was available for any help they needed with research.

  I hope some sort of programme comes out of this, I know that Emma (?) who did the one about the young man being DF'd was aware that a bigger story, than just his sad plight, was out there.

  i am a little unsure why there is attention on mouritz.... i know his being moved to poland is of interesting timing and all.

  but why is the spot light on him?.

  is he suspected of molesting kids?.

  I think a rumour started on here because he shot off back to Poland just as the Unthank hearings were coming up, but there could be all sorts of reasons for his move back, although I am not totally discounting people's suspicions.

  Dear Shades, to be effective as a tool for making JW's question their beliefs, any brochure/tract would need to be very short and succinct. JW's do not read large blocks of text, and have difficulty following an argument. They are too lazy to look up quoted scriptures.

  A quote from their own WT publications showing that they (the WT) do not believe Jesus is mediator for the "Great Crowd of Other Sheep" (from the article in "Insight..." fer example) folowed by a scripture from Timothy say, to show that Christ is mediator for all men, then your question "Who is YOUR mediator ?" should be just enough, any more than that and they will simply toss it as "Apostate material" because it has a lot of text.

  Just add a link to JWFacts.com and the relevant article therein.
