maybe it's just me, but lately it seems like there is a trend (well, moreso than usual in any case) of saying that paul is somehow of a different mind than jesus and that the teachings of the two contradict each other.
while i can see where having a jw background can easily bring this type of thinking around, most especially since they extol the teachings of paul and completely ignore christ, most of you are no longer under the power of the watchtower...er, you aren't are you?
and as such, you should be free of most, if not all, of the brainwashing to occurrs.
I agree Wozzer,Pauls position was totally unique,but at least he was humble, and gave all credit to Jesus,explaining that there is ONE mediator between God and men,Jesus Christ.
How different from another bunch of men who steamed in and claim to be that Mediator,the "FDS" !

Your feelings are the same as mine on this, I do beleive that Paul was a true Brother in Christ and supports the teaching and example of Christ,and as he says teaches nothing else but Christ resurrected.
I think a lot of Bible readers take exception to his advice on the treatment of slaves and women etc.saying that Paul condoned the status quo. I think he simply saw the world they were living in for what it was and advised christians on how they could live within that world.
Of course if you get silly as the WT does applying to today women using head coverings etc. (a passage they have not even understood in it's 1st. centuary context) then you loose the lesson for our day, i.e live the christian life despite the world we live in.

i think the watchtower is a drug, its teachings designed to separate you from human society, .
both build you up and let you down and get you addicted to the "high" (everlasting life, .
perfect world system, having the truth while everyone else is ignorant.
What a great analogy! No wonder those of us who are leaving feel like "cold turkey"
My problem is I have gone on to another more addictive drug......JWD !!! I spend much more time on here than I ever did in Field Circus or at the Kigdumb Hell !

a currently in family member has been open to some conversation with me recently and the subject of money came up.
this person naively thinks the wt don't gotta lot o' dough and without going down apostate routes, i wasn't sure how to prove they are loaded.. anyway i said i thought they owned all the khs and assembly halls and that the value of all that property is a fair whack.
but she inquired of an elder in her cong who said each cong owns its own kh and if they wanted to sell it in the morning, a resolution on what to do with the proceeds would be put to the cong.
Here in the U.K some years ago all congos. were inveigled into giving over ownership of each K.H to a trust set up by the WT's corporation in Britain,so any Hall or land that is sold ,the money goes "back" to the trust.(Despite the fact that these Halls were paid for by the Bros. in the local congo.) This arrangement went through on the usual legally doubtfull method of a show of hands for the propsal at a meeting of witlesses who didn't have a clue what they were voting for.
So here they really do own all the K.Halls,and I guess assembly Halls too.

i have a question for the ex-jw's on this forum after months of reading the forum..... many say how good it is to be free of the oppressiveness of the jw's that they can now enjoy the freedom to... have sex, celebrate christmas, gamble, embrace politics etc.
there are still biblical scriptures and principles in place that if you still followed the bible would mean you avoid these things and yet these are now embraced as one of the perks of no longer being a jw so in my confusion i ask.... if these are what you want, isn't it more correct to say you no longer follow the bible as apposed to just the jw's?.

I appreciate seeing how the witness point of view and "reasoning" methods can be exposed for what they are,as I think I have some debates in the near future , not on this topic,but two seperate active Dubs are supposed to be returning to answer my "concerns," I shall be better equipped to help them Reason on The Scriptures because of what I have observed on this thread.

I have posted on Yahoo my answer , and I think it is a good idea simply to state the reason(s) you left in the first place,not ramble on about all you have gleaned since from JWD and elsewhere.
I think the more of us do this, the effect will be a drip drip of info instead of one big hit,it will be more powerfull for JW's to see the full panoply of reasons from different posters.

what's your take on the spirit realm?
are there angels, demons, ghosts?
how do you otherwise explain those who for a fact are demonpossessed, scourged, woodoo, mediums, people who experience things moving and sounding in there homes etc.. a missonary in kenya once told me she studied with a demonpossessed woman and that the sister herself spoke with the demon and told him/her to leave and said jehovahs name.
I think there really are demons, and by pretending to be afraid of the name Jehovah,they convince people like your missionary friend that they are in the true religion and so such ones remain trapped in the organisation whose beginnings were based on spiritism.

I posed similar questions to an active Dub a while ago,asking "After nearly a hundred years of preaching in this area by our Congo.what do people here know about J.W's beliefs?They could probably tell you what you don't believe, blood transfusion etc, but how many could tell you what you do believe? so is their reaction to this non-message the basis for judging them worthy or not of life?"

this may have been answered before,but a quick search threw nothing up,my question is,why were congregations,some years ago, asked to collect in from all jw's and send back ,along with library copies,all editions of the book "from paradise lost to paradise regained" ( pub.1958) ?.
what was so embarassing in this book that they wanted to pulp the lot???.
