LOL nope, it can't be a secret and I don't want it to be... plus I am in india at the moment and he is in the UK... I can't exactly leave the country secretly lol
It's a good idea thought!!! Thanks for the well wishes too darth :D
well it's very close.... i knew this would kinda happen at some point in my life.... still you only realise the full extent of the situation when you are facing it.. i never was a 'hard core' jw and all of the 'secret' boyfriends i've had were non-jws.
present one included.
except now, we have decided to get married and i have the most unpleasant task ahead of me.. 1) i'm indian, so dating isn't really accepted as the norm and most parents are very conservative.. 2) my mum is a jw and i was raised as one (though i am an atheist now, but she doesn't know this!!

Cheers for both nelly136!!
i feel like woody allen in the 1973 movie "the sleeper".
i leave in 1995, wake up 15 yrs later to see what has been going on in the jw religion and find out it is completely different from what i left.
i started a thread about beards, because i wanted to know how the modern day beard and goatee fad went over in the kh's.. now i'm curious about the tattoo, piercings and short or shaved hair look.
I got a tattoo on my lower back last June. Best thing I ever did!
My mum didn't know about it of course and I planned to keep it that way... unfortunately she spotted it while I was bending over one day and all hell broke loose.... she shrieked and shouted about I had defiled myself... and satan and wordly people had 'done something' to me to force me to do such a thing... and being a JW didn't I know jehovah's laws blah blah... even tho there is only one scripture about it... and it's in the old testament which ironically isn't supposed to apply to us!!
She still makes me occasional jibe about me being 'filthy' and how I ruined my body and what shame it would bring if any JWs saw it my real friends love it though!

I have absolutely NO idea how I am going to break the news to my mum:-
I have a boyfriend *WHAT??* We have been dating for about three years *WHAT??* He's caucasian *WHAT??* He's 14 years older than me *WHAT???* and..... he's not a JW *insert BLOOD CURDLING SCREAM* lol
This of course will lead to more questions and the truth of me not wanting to associate with the org anymore will come out.
I have a feeling mummy dearest will also want to know if I have 'defiled' myself with fornication
Then she will rant and rave about how satan has swallowed me up and now I have turned my back on jehovah blah blah... you know the spiel...
Anyone had a similar situation? Do I bring up the topic while we are sitting around wondering when to next vaccinate the dogs? By the way mum, I have boyfriend who is not a JW and we have decided to get married.
i expect a major confrontation with my mum in the near future regarding my non-association with jws.. i plan to discuss my unwillingness to associate based on 'things i have discovered' about the org.
i would like to prepare in advance for a lengthy argument and for this purpose i would like to compile a list of issues.. however, i want to discuss using only jw publications.
mum has the wt library (2003) and some books but not the rare or uncommon ones.
Thanks everyone for your replies! :)
@Elsewhere : I'll remember to dedicate my next thread to you
@poopsiecakes : Thanks for the well wishes!
@jookbeard : I don't have my CoC with me at the moment and a lot of the stuff that he discusses isn't something that is easily available to ordinary members (especially the older magazines), so if I brought those up, my mum would inevitably ask how did you find those?!
@worldtraveller : I'm not looking to win the argument and I'm pretty sure I won't, at least not initially. I just know she is going to tackle me about my non-association in a big way and I want some pretty strong points to show her so that I can honestly say 'There's no way my conscience will let me go back to the KH after learning these things'. It'll probably get her off my back for a while.
@blondie & shamus : Sorry I didn't make myself very clear in the adultery point. Off the top of my head, I remember reading a WT quote or something similar that beastiality and such didn't count towards allowing a woman to divorce her husband? I know it's changed now, but even having such a teaching in past would probably make my mum cringe if she read it!
@FatFreek & Perry : Thanks for the links!! I shall have a read through them all and I'm sure there will be some pretty good things to remember during my discussion

Hello everyone,
I expect a major confrontation with my mum in the near future regarding my non-association with JWs.
I plan to discuss my unwillingness to associate based on 'things I have discovered' about the org. I would like to prepare in advance for a lengthy argument and for this purpose I would like to compile a list of issues.
However, I want to discuss using only JW publications. Mum has the WT library (2003) and some books but not the rare or uncommon ones. I want to show her stuff only using these publications so she doesn't go on high 'apostacy' alert.
From my investigation around this site I have discovered the 'organ transplant being cannibalism' and 'adultery is only vaginal sex between man and woman'.
Are there any more issues like this that I can add to my list to help me prepare for this discussion and be able to open her eyes to some extent using ONLY WT publication and the NWT?
Thanks in advance :)

do you have talent as a musician?
how much better would it be if you focused on pioneering!.
are you artistic?
They are getting even worse. In the past few years, they have compared college to shooting oneself in the head. They have threatened to remove any "privileges" from any parents whose children are in college unless they do everything they can to remove them from college. Instead, they are supposed to be going out in field circus as pio-sneers.
Sorry to interrupt the thread and I don't mean to detract from the topic, but could someone please point me to WT articles that point to this? Thanks :)
Nothing. I'm spending this Christmas with my JW mum so feck all really, though she likes a subtle celebration by cooking a special meal!
do atheists celebrate christmas, the celebration of christ's birth?.
if so, why?.
My small circle of friends usually celebrate the Winter Solstice with a little get together and dinner, drinks and sitting by the fire place chatting into the wee hours of the morning. It's like our little pagan christmas with friends since the real holiday is spent with family.
Despite most of us being atheists or non-religious, we also all indulge in some form of christmas celebration in the secular manner. This is mainly due to tradition since our families expect all members to make some effort to see the rest of them once in a year. So most of us will travel many miles to visit aging parents and other relatives. And for many people, Christmas is one of the few times in the year where everyone is able to get time off work, so I don't see why atheists as a whole should go down the grinch route and stay away or refuse to participate. Some do, but they have their own reasons and it's a free world.
Putting up sparkly lights, exchanging presents and cards, cooking up a fabby meal, watching rubbish on tv etc are also extremely fun things to do when you usually have to spend a day or two with the entire family. It's a way to 'bond' and catch up on what's been happening during the year, recount old stories and so on. Many Christmas traditions are of pagan origins anyway, so it's a bit silly for Christians to moan at other people for not giving any attention to Jesus. I'm sure the pagans were quite pissed off when the Christians stole all of their ideas!!
Christians have every right to celebrate the auspicious occasion from their religious viewpoint, but other people also have the right to enjoy a national/international holiday in any manner that they wish. It's a holiday season anyway - you've got things like Thanksgiving, solstice, christmas and new years all one after the other and I think it's perfectly ok for everyone to get into a sort of 'festive spirit' regardless of their religious outlook.
