Do YOU Regard Yourself As An "Apostate"?
by minimus inpersonally, i believe the watchtower organization is the real apostate!.
-
MisfitMeL
I used to view myself as an apostate in the early days, but now I realise that I had the opportunity to think for myself, research and examine the various 'truths' I was brought up with and decide to follow reality and facts and my own conscience.
Apostate is still such a loaded and negative word, so I prefer to use more positive ones like free thinker, rationalist, humanist or atheist. I'd rather not label myself at all, but if needed, then I'd rather use a positive one than a negative :)

What do they get out of this?
by MisfitMeL inmaybe this has been discussed before but i'm starting to wonder why it is so important for wts to keep such a tight control over its members?.
is it because the gb and other folk in upper management are so delusional and psychotic, that they believe in the rubbish they spout?.
or is someone somewhere getting something (financially) out of this?.

Thanks for the invite talesin! I'm not scottish even though I've lived here for a few years, so I have no idea what ceud mìle fàilte would mean.... actually come to think of it...most non-gaelic speaking scots wouldn't know either lol
inbetween - Yup, the cognitive dissonance sure seems to have a strong hold on them!

Thanks for the answer N.Drew! It is very sad but makes sense. I guess there isn't really a single person or group to point the finger at. After over a century the lines are all blurred. :(
P.S. Scotland is lovely! You should visit it if you can :)

Where does the money trail lead? JWs the world over put their hard earned money into contribution boxes but any amount not used locally are sent to HQ right? Considering how cheap printing publications are and the virtually free manual labour, where does the rest of the money go? The GB? The lawyers?
The main mantra is don't educate yourself, stay dumb and stay loyal. And paranoid. But how does this translate into a tangible gain to the WTS?
I think I'm starting to sound like some crazy conspiracy theorist lol
Or maybe it's getting pretty late and I should tuck myself into bed

All religions are the same. They are very happy to have you join their exclusive club, but contemplate leaving them and curses be upon you! lol

Nessrriinn's Story
by jwfacts inthis is a beautiful account by nessrriin of her growing up and leaving the muslim faith.
the parrallels with leaving the watchtower faith is quite remarkable, even the similarity of terminology such as; the truth, conventions, guilt, study more, apostate, "there is no questioning allah".. there have been several accounts lately of people torn by the question "what if the watchtower is correct"?
hopefully this video will help show that your religious belief is due to your religious upbringing, not that it really could be "the truth.".

I'm glad to see a link to Nessrriinn's video here and I hope posters here get a chance to see it and identify with it.
As an ex-JW that is a regular member of an ex-muslim forum, I know the experience of leaving jehovah is the pretty much the same as leaving allah. There are so many parallels, it's eerie. Ex-muslims face so many of the same challenges as ex-JWs ... but some also have the sad reality of facing death if their atheism becomes known - in that respect, we are fortunate.
To all those here who are currently battling with breaking away from JWs and feeling conflicted and doubtful if they are making (or have made) the right decision - You are not alone!
I hope this gives you encouragement to know it's not just ex-JWs that face all these challenges, but people from all religions all over the world. We are all realising what a scam religion is - ALL religion, not just christianity - and we are breaking away in droves. The internet is crucial to this silent revolution, and it is encouraging to see many young adults and teens sign up on forums like this and others.
It gave me a lot of hope and comfort to realise this fact, and I hope it helps you too.
