welcome and well met, MeL.....
one good..... no, make that GREAT, thing about this board is that you CAN keep up with the spew the b0rg is publishing.... sometimes ahead of the rank and file!!
you may well be able to put your mum off the scent of your fading if you drop timely commentary about a recent study article..... there are some brilliant insights here by truly well-informed posters who can cut thru the nonsense with a rapier wit and style..... nothing i like better than a hot cuppa and the "watchtower comments" on a sunday morning.....
Hello Chickpea! (That's a very cute username by the way )
And you're right about using places like this to keep up with news even if you're out. I can't remember if it was from this site or another, or maybe both!, that I heard about the two separate WT editions. It was handy to drop that comment in while emailing my mum, so atleast it looked like I was being active
I'm definitely going to keep a close eye on the latest news so I do have something to talk about while "Keeping Up Appearances" (anyone seen that classic comedy by the way? lol)
I'm also going to read up more info on the org so I can find ways to drop subtle hints to her. I know she's seen/experienced some hypocrytical behaviour but was always 'counselled' by elders and others about it, so she probably puts it down to human imperfection.
hi gang,.
we as humans have a need to celebrate.
we want to be happy and to share our joy and share in the joy of others.
I know what you mean!
It's hard to stop human beings from wanting to enjoy themselves and celebrate.
We all wore nice clothes, sometimes new, jewellery and make up on... the same was for the assemblies!
Everybody wanted to show their best..
Welcome Mel - love the name!
I see some similarities in our stories. I never did get baptized but did totally get the "You're 20 and still not baptized?!" crap from people. Not may parents thankfully tho - so I guess that's why I escaped being dunked.
Glad you found the place - and I hope you enjoy your time here.
Hello Joanna!! When I first saw your username, I misread it as Joan and Andy LOL
It's a good thing your parents weren't rabid about you getting dunked! My mom went on about it for years... Every year the assemblies were misery! And when other kids got baptised, my mum was livid
MisFitMel - it's so awesom to find a "place" where the people totally get where you're coming from and the reasons for it - out there (meaning people who don't really know anything about the witness) you can't find anyone that can relate.
Hey LouBelle!
I'm glad I found this place and I hear what you're saying! I know a lot of non-witness friends and even my boyfriend are sympathetic but I know they can't really 'grasp' what it really feels like and what going through it is all about...
It's comforting to know some 'kindred' souls... even just typing all this out makes me feel a little better!
Just to add mel i think you fit in very well, there as you seem to here to
Regards
David
Thank you David! Everyone's been nothing short of friendly so far so it's a lovely experience
Good morning LouBelle, MMO and David!
MMO - there's a brief version of my story on the first page, and everyone so far has been real friendly and supportive as you say!
Thanks for the encouragement David.. I think I will certainly build up the courage to turn up lol
when i was growing up as a born in jw, i remember the fear that dfing stirred up within me.
as a kid, seeing a df'd person was quite a scary thing.
thinking back about how it was growing up, it occurred to me that at the time, i never realized that a person had to be baptized in order to be df'd.
I was quite afraid of being DFd as a kid... I was even more terrified of being chastised by an elder...
Whenever I would be rebellious or seem to lean towards getting into trouble, my mum would threaten that she would tell the Elders and then noone could help me Scared the s*** out of me LOL
I did it too!! Thanks for the tip and welcome!
Yay!!
If you really don't want to feel guilty and worried anymore, If you haven't already, stop believing in some Guy in the stars that can see everything you do and can read your mind.
You will be amazed of the freedom you will feel, I know it is tabo to talk about. It took me almost 2years to grasp the fact that maybe there is no God,
Most people watch what they say when it comes to is there or is there not, Just in case he may be watching. ( case and point )
Seeing is believing , Freedom is a decision away.
ps .Could somebody tell me where the hell spell check is .
Hello Free!
I'm pretty much in a pendulum state right now... sometimes I feel there is a God, and other times I'm not so sure. I've tried to become more philosophical and be open to all possibilities. I think I'm leaning more towards the agnostic side. No one can really prove/disprove the existence of a God (or several of them if that's your thing!) so I think I shall sit on the fences for now
I suppose as time goes by, I'll be able to find my own path of spiritual enlightenment!
I haven't spotted anything like spell check for far, but if I do, I'll make sure to give you a shout
