  i was pmed this excerpt from the final talk by r. clark at the new york special assembly day by a newbie whom i will keep anonymous for confidentiality purposes.

  it is full of spin control, and damage control which shows how nervous the watchtower society is getting about " negative talk ", " independent thinking", and " internet use " by the rank and file jehovah's witness members.

  I spoke with the newbie who PMd this to me... since this is a good spoof, he plans on surreptitiosly sending this out to all the friends he has... and hoping that some may click on JWD, and have doubts...

  It's not a bad plan...

  This may work, but I think in general being misleading is a bad way to teach someone the truth (small t). If they realise these are "apostate lies", which in all fairness they are, it will validate everything the society teaches about the crafty and deceitful apostates trying to steal Jehovah's sheep. It could very well have the opposite affect then the one intended.

  TV Converter Box Choice?

  tv converter box choice?.

  i need some help choosing which tv converter box to buy.

  i have two united states government issued converter box $40 coupons good till 9-9-08. .

  Any TV that has a digital tuner doesn't need a box, even for over the air reception. Any TV bought in the last 2 or 3 years should be fine. Older TVs you'll have to do some checking as to whether they have a digital tuner or just an analog one. Also any TV hooked up to cable or a satellite converter box is fine.

  To Quit or Control it....Drinking that is....Who has succeeded and how?

  thinking about just giving it up....i always revert back to a nightly habit.....and the occasasinal big escape into the bottle.

  but of course you can't live there, and it fixes nothing.. because i think i do have a problem, i went to some aa meetings and found them to be too much like wt.

  if alcholism is a true disease, then why is it the only one that needs god (or a higher power to cure (or cope with).

  Thanks Oompa for starting this thread and being so honest about it. I wish you luck whatever approach you take. And thanks Crumpet, your posts struck a chord with me, and I like your approach.

  I started drinking heavily when I started "doubting", to deal with my situation. Cognitive dissonance, as Daniel said. I felt I couldn't leave the cult because I wanted to stay married and keep my extended family. The alcohol helped numb the pain.

  Now I live alone and it's a habit. Honestly a lot of my problem is boredom. I have structured my business in such a way that I don't have to work every day if I don't want to. As a result, I have too much free time. On those days, I often start drinking at noon. I know I drink too much. I don't think I'm ready to quit yet, but I think my time is coming soon.

  This reminds me of the "Left Behind" series of books. Typical fundamentalist zealot, frustrated and perplexed over why his fornicating neighbors haven't yet been tortured to death by God while the fundamentalist looks on with a grin, creates the scenario he is obsessed with in his own head. It's Christian sado-massochistic porn. This jackass would probably get a hard-on watching "The Passion of The Christ".

  the most popular, and most common claim, is that the flood was in mesopotamia, or present day iraq.

  but, as has been pointed out on this forum before by alan f and others, the major problem with this theory is that the entire area drains into the persian gulf.

  Hamlet rode a dinosaur.

  I'm intrigued by this theory. You have persuaded me. This could very well be what Shakespeare was describing with "symbolic language" when he talked about "sound and fury". I think we need to have a serious debate about exactly where and how Hamlet rode this dinosaur. Anyone that tries to point out that this theory is "ludicrous", "imposssible", "easily disprovable", or "bat-shit crazy" should be called intolerant and dismissed for their lack of faith.

  I agree totally with the consensus. It sounds like they are trying to make their marriage work for the children. He may very well even be pretending to believe for the children. Don't mess with that. Don't make life harder on those kids than it has to be. Just move on and stop screwing married men.
