I think it is a personal choice, & should not be pushed on other people, even by subtle means. I believe in the creator, & also do not believe he/she picked any certain religion or group to favor. Who's to say which book is "right"? I also don't believe any God would need his ego stroked & stroked by worshippers! Same mantra, different dogma. Same judgemental, if it was a good thing, God did it, & if it was a bad thing, satan was at the root nonsense! Personally, I get tired of people pushing their beliefs on everyone else just like jws. Shaming people into the politically correct opinion of an issue. While I'm very happy they found a crutch of some kind, the only crutch I've found is myself! And sometimes my family. If I have a problem or need, I don't have time to sit around praying, I need to set goals & figure out how to achieve them! If it brings them some kind of peace & happiness, cool. But why do some continue to act like a jw with different doctrines? Why not learn from the watchtower experience & grow! I just don't believe in tormenting myself with it all, I believe in enjoying life!

Throwing the baby out with the bath water?
by Steve Lowry insometimes i think that because we jws were so deceived, tricked and flat out lied to by an organization that claims to be the sole representative of god, when we take the step to leave the group we (may) have a tendency to discard god as well, in the process.
i realize also there are those who by their nature (perhaps) and their point of view and ideology, that its just a natural personal kind of evolution that brings them to the point that god doesnt exist.
or, that if he does, it doesnt really play any kind of a roll in their lives.

Are You Surpised By What You Don't Believe In Anymore?
by minimus in.
jehovah's witnesses must "believe" whatever the watchtower bible & tract society publishes.
now that you aren't forced to accept beliefs that you might not have wholeheartedly endorsed, there must be many different things that you don't accept.....what comes to mind?

I am more surprised at what I've seen xjws say and believe in on other boards and lists! Same mantra, different dogma. Same judgemental, if it was a good thing, God did it, & if it was a bad thing, satan was at the root nonsense! And often still pushing on on everyone else just like jws. Shaming people into the politically correct opinion of an issue. All you need is a few on one list & they push and push. While I'm very happy they found a crutch of some kind, the only crutch I've found is myself! And sometimes my family. If I have a problem or need, I don't have time to sit around praying, I need to set goals & figure out how to achieve them! If it brings them some kind of peace & happiness, cool. How can I approach members of my family still in with this? They will just say someone made it up, someone forged the document, blablabla. Any ideas? How can active jws even ask anyone about this? They will get in such trouble for even having access to this information :(

Reparations for slavery: Just or unjust?
by MYOHNSEPH inthere's such a broad range of perception on this board, i'm curious to know what you folks think of this issue.
are contemporary decendents of black slaves in the united states justified in asking for monetary reparation for their ancestors' bondage?
if you answer is in the affirmative, some related questions are:.

Having just enrolled a kid in college, & now paying the hefty bill, I saw just how many scholarships there are out there for "people of color', An African-American student", etc. You can all rest assurred there is enough help, money, & admission quotas out there to help black people run this country, if they are willing to work hard.

Since my ancestors were Irish, the Irish were often indentured servants, & no one liked them, I want reparations too! I don't care if Kennedy was electred president, I want reparations (stomps off ranting and raving)

People who are next in the line at the store who do not either pre-write as much of their check as they can, or do not get their cash out. They stand there looking surprised when their total is displayed, they do not even have their wallets open.
Also, cashiers talking amongst themselves about tjheir hot date last night, ignoring customers & telling much more business than anyone really wants to know.
As you can see, I avoid stores at all costs, especially grocery stores :) -

Do you think its talking down to you?
by WildTurkey inwhen talking to someone who never was a jw, and they say to you how could you ever fall for all that?
it does bother me, cause i think it is some what condescending?
how do you feel about these questions?
-
gypsywildone
Unless the person asking the question is truly being condescending, there is no need to get defensive. I think from an outsider's point of view, the entire unhappy lifestyle is so mind boggling, they simply can't understand what the attraction is in the first place, & what causes people to swallow it.

You are never really alone in life
by kenpodragon inrecently as i posted on this site, a very dear friend of mine lost her child in a most terrible manner.
it has been five days now, and they have laid the child to rest, but the love that had poured out to these two parents has been astounding.
the thing is, the love that is the most surprising is the love that has come from the online friends.

Been there, done that! Do you have a special teacher or guidance counsellor you trust? I know it's embarassing, & you are probably leading dual lives. If you get good grades & take college prep courses, the teachers will help you get into college, even if your parents refuse to pay! Start now, start planning for your happy, educated future, not their future of gloom and doom. a teenage marriage to someone that you don't know very well, like those you have sen at the kingdom hall, will not help. I know you are pissed at the injustice of it all. I know you feel ripped off, and you were. There is a section of this board with xjws in different places & states. There is so much help out here for you! Feel free to email me anytime, [email protected]
