I met him at the Janesville Wisconsin assembly hall back in the late 70's when he just was starting to study.
Knowing who he was made it kind of un-nerving to actually meet him ( being a teenager myself at the time.)

What Careers, Opportunities Did you Have to Sacrifice - to be a Witness ?
by flipper ini know this may be an annoying subject .
but if you did have to give up doing what you wanted in a career or opportunity - what was it ?
how controlling was the organization over you, and were you counseled by elders or higher ups to not pursue certain jobs, opportunities, college , etc - so that you stayed in the witnesses for awhile ; not doing what you wanted?

medical school,
I worked for a doctor in H.S. and he really wanted to help me out.
He was going to pay for, and give me a loan for school.
But J W's don't do that!!
I kick myself everyday for not following my dreams -

Witness Kids - Scared silly by the WTBTS
by misspeaches ini wonder if anyone else who grew up as a jw can relate with me on this subject.. i grew up hearing stories of 'faithful brothers & sisters' being tortured to a point where they were almost dead.
all they had to do to be set free was renounce jehovah and their religon.
the stories i heard of torture were graphic in nature and to this day i can not handle hearing about torture or watch it being portrayed in movies.

what really blew my mind is hearing all these stories growing up, yet when Schindlers List came out our
PO continually stated that this movie was not for christians.
i mentioned that many brothers and sisters had to endure things shown in this movie, and even in the WT magazines there are some
pretty graphic descriptions of torture on the witnesses.
Nope, Schindlers list is not a good movie,
ever since that day I began to realize what a crock of garbage we were being told by the Po and his associates. -

Do you think JWs actually care if they convert people or not?
by LouBelle inthe reason i ask this is because when i was on the field way back in the day - i really couldn't be bothered if the householder was interested or not.
if they took literature and paid for it (we asked a certain price for literature before it all became on a donation basis) it was a bonus, plus meant money for a cooldrink / tea & cake afterwards.. actually i would prefer it if they weren't interested so i could get away from the door - sometimes their ""conversation stoppers"" made too much sense and i couldn't answer back.. that meant i didn't convert anybody.
do you think most of the jws' are like that today?

I forgot to enter Caspers comment on my last post,it should be 1st sorry. This happen to me a lot. I loved talking to the elderly...but then, I would find myself agreeing with them, and wishing I had faith like they did about their own religion... Cas

That is so true, I cringe when i think of how I would try and convert some older people, and deep down inside
I KNEW that they were happy with their beliefs, and all the while I talked like i was some kind of
a stuck-up young know it all bastard.
damn those years !! they really were a screwed up time. -

WHAT if we're wrong?
by shell69 ini mean, i know i'm bitter.. normally these days quite strong, not feeling so much so much the last few days though.. what i'd give to do the things i was used to.
going doing the weekly shop with my mum, her popping round for a brew in the morning.. a hug from her, just to to know from the way she communicated with me, that she loved me.
i miss her so much.. and what if i'm wrong?.

instead of relying on the organization when the question of charity comes up, why not think for yourself? There is a scripture that tells something like " the right hand doesn't know what the left one is doing" God gave us all free will, you should never feel that this gift vanishes as soon as the jw's come into your life. I do alot of travel in the chicago, Illinois area, and I make a point to donate some money to one organization every time I'm down there. Homeless vets, retired vets, other religions) The wt and their view of charity is the furthest thing from my mind. Give it a try sometime, it really is not that hard

Elders want to visit after memorial !!
by lancelink inwell, i attended the memorial last night, and since i have been inactive for some time two of the elders came up to me afterwards.
they want to get together and discuss how to get me active again.
since i am going thru some withdrawal pains, i spinelessly agreed to talk with them this friday evening.

well, one of the elders had the flu, so this visit never happened.
They claim that they would like to "reactivate " me, (yes those words were used)
Well, I'm not a credit card, that statement really ticked me off somewhat.
Hopefully this the end of their visits.
