Why believe in a god?
by menrov inif you consider that the god they believe in:.
- cannot be seen or heard and is only known in books written by writers we do not know nor do we have the original writings- does not listen to prayers from believers for security, safety, health, survival, protection, rescue, food etc- promises things that have not come true though had plenty of time to act on the promises- does not provide what you need to live- let's you suffer, struggle, work etc equal to non-believers, treated equally.
........ how does a believer look at his/her parents if they hide themselves, do not provide for you (shelter, food etc), make promises but never live up to these, does not provide what you need to live, treats you like anyone else but not as their child?

Stress of Going to a Summer Convention
by LostintheFog1999 inspotted this picture on a friend's page, he was highlighting the mental health issue.
however,we thought the magazine on stress was deliberately placed in the summer months because for any jw going to a convention, paying high season hotel rates for themselves or their whole family to stay near the convention centre, fighting coworkers and managers to get the time off work, travelling expenses, buying their own meals for the family, buying new shiny suits and dresses to impress (particularly if you have teenage girls who are looking for their prince), and more.... by the time they come home again and straight away back to work, their nerves will be so frazzled that their stress levels will have sky rocketed!.
as brother elder says to them, "don't worry.

in the lat e70's several friends and I attended the Billings Montana assembly. We pitched our tents in the nearby fairgrounds, and took our showers in the buildings where they hosed cows and horses down. That was the most primitive experience. All through the assembly I felt so disconnected from reality, and mentally dirty because of the way we were living.

This afternoon I drove by an old hall I attended ( Barrington Illinois) and noticed that it had been sold, it is now an Adventist
church ! Now here is my drive-home thinking.
Back in the 80's when I attended I was newly married, and had a young child. Trying to put kingom interests first, I quit my full time job and worked with the local witnesses and aux. pioneered. There were many opportunities that came up in doing work for local churches such as carpet cleaning, painting, carpentry, and electrical.
But whenever these opportunities popped up, the elders appeared like flies on a fresh pile. They always said, "what do you think will happen if Armageddon comes and your inside Babylon the great ?,,, That's right, you would be destroyed like all of their other terrible god-opposing members of that filthy organization".
And now those same elders sold their hall to another member of "false religion". I wondered all the way home, if those guys considered what would happen if armageddon came while they were closing that deal ? Would they alone have been killed, or would God have destroyed the rest of the congregation ?
Kind of a looney thought, but it really helped my boredom on the way home tonight. Amazing how the threats and guilt tripping from God go away for the witnesses when they smell money for themselves !

Kingdom Hall in Barrington, Illinois
by Expanded-Mind ini often drive past a kingdom hall in barrington, illinois, where, when i was still a witness, i had visited a few times.
it wasn't too far from the hall i attended and we got to know people from this congregation.. i recently passed it by and it appeared there was a new sign in place.
yesterday i decided to pull into the parking lot on my way home, and it appears that the hall has been sold and is now occupied by seventh day adventists (i did a check online when i got home).

I attended Crystal Lake ( a nearby hall) for several decades. But I still keep in contact with several PIMO individuals. I drive by this place off of RT 14 everyday. See the glue marks on the upper left side ? that's where the jw.org sign was.
Barrington hall was sold, and the people were absorbed into the CL hall.So now they have about another 30-45 minute drive to get to the meetings, what a loving provision isn't it ?
Being right on a major highway, this is an absolutely wonderful way to show people driving by that the witnesses are on the decline. I heard that several older members are saying that this hall was sold" to allow other future projects to be funded". praise jah!!
With the Mike Penkava sexual abuse court case going on, I wonder if they sold this to help pay for the watchtower expenses ? Yes that's right the watchtower,,,,, F**k penkava and his situation.

I posted information regarding the first trial earlier this year. In today's edition of the Northwest Herald,
Crystal Lake man, church elder charged with failing to report sexual abuse of child
By KATIE SMITHE
5:00 am
A Jehovah's Witness church elder is accused of failing to notify police about a known instance of sexual abuse against a minor in his congregation.
Michael M. Penkava, 71, of Crystal Lake, was charged Nov. 18 with violating reporting provisions. The offense is a misdemeanor typically punishable by less than one year in jail.
Outside of his involvement with the church, known among Jehovah's Witnesses as a Kingdom Hall, Penkava taught for 35 years at West Elementary School in Crystal Lake. He also previously wrote as a freelance columnist for the Northwest Herald.
He's accused of failing to tell police about a male congregant who was sexually abusing a family member, court records show.
Woodstock-based attorney Philip Prossnitz said Penkava might not have been a mandated reporter at the time. Illinois law grants some protections to communication between faith leaders and congregants, Prossnitz said.
"Our research indicates that if information is received within the context of a penitent-clergy privilege, it does not have to be disclosed and such individuals are not mandated reporters, and I think that might be what is at issue here in this prosecution for this misdemeanor," he said.
Penkava testified more than a year ago at the trial of Crystal Lake man, Arturo Hernandez-Pedraza.
A jury found Hernandez-Pedraza guilty in October 2019 of sexually assaulting and abusing a young female relative for more than 13 years.
At trial, Penkava invoked his right as a religious leader to not testify against the man. Ultimately, he was required to answer questions about actions the congregation took after learning about the sexual abuse more than a decade before it was reported.
Penkava learned about the accusations in July 2006, prosecutors said. Shortly after, church leaders warned parishioners not to leave their children alone with Hernandez-Pedraza.
The accusations weren’t reported to police until 2018, however, when the victim told church elders the abuse hadn’t stopped, prosecutors said at the time of 2019 trial.
Reached by phone Tuesday, Penkava declined to comment about the charge while the case was ongoing.
According to the Jehovah's Witnesses official website, followers of the faith "abhor child abuse and view it as a crime."
It went on to say that "authorities are responsible for addressing such crimes" and "elders do not shield any perpetrator of child abuse from the authorities."
When elders learn of an accusation of child abuse, they consult with the branch office of Jehovah’s Witnesses to "ensure compliance with child abuse reporting laws," according to the website.
Regardless of reporting laws, the branch office of Jehovah’s Witnesses instructs its elders to report the accusations if a minor is still in danger of abuse, according to the website.
Penkava is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Jan. 6.

I have a relative who every time I call , turns the conversation to :the last days" and how only the jw 's will be saved. mind-boggling to me. I get the impression that witnessing on every phone call, no matter who it is, Is really one of their preferred methods of indoctrination now.

They spend so much time talking about the deaths caused by Covid-19.
But I have spoken to several medical associates from different areas,, and they are surprised at how the deaths caused by the shutdown itself are ignored.
So many people have / are dying because of
1), substance abuse from being isolated
2), suicide
3), depression
I never hear about those statistics from the media, could there be an agenda here ?

Today's WT Study: "Return to Jehovah" - Lots of Elephants in the Room
by Room 215 intoday's article prods active jws to participate in the effort to reactivate us backsliders.. unfortunately, it fails to prepare the participants to adequately address the real reasons so many have left and want nothing frtherethan to be left alone: the un and child abuse scandals, prophetic failures; dumbed-down, increasingly specious and simplistic verbiage in literature and talks, the cult of personality and unwarranted veneration of those 8 singularly unremarkable members of the gb, etc., etc..
