I don't know if you ( english or German too ) have this expression but in France we translate "kein lezard" or "no lizard" by "pas de lézard" and that mean "there is no problem" just because I am really cool ... "There is no problem only solution " :)

Why "... when it does touch on scientific matters [the Bible] is accurate" is bogus BS.

jws and other christians would often point to the handful of the bible verses that seem to be scientifically accurate as evidence of its divine inspiration.

but not surprisingly, they ignore the ones that are scientifically inaccurate, or when they address those verses they put a spin on it like saying the account is not a reflection of what the bible is teaching but what men at the time erroneously believed and which god allowed them to record in the bible.

would you believe a jw actually told me that!

Uhmm ... I don't think so

For exemple Job 26:7 Suspending the earth upon nothing.

First thing often those who want say "Bible is scientificaly exact" .. omit the this Verse is

He stretches out the northern sky* over empty space,Suspending the earth upon nothing;

In fact we see immediatly that something is wrong ... what is supposed to mean "streches out the sky over Empty space" ... this sentence has as is, not sense.

Then we must read all the verse

26 Job said in reply:

2 “How you have helped the one with no power! How you have saved the arm that has no strength!+

3 What great advice you have given to the one lacking wisdom! How freely* you have revealed your practical wisdom!*

4 To whom are you trying to speak, And who inspired you to say such things?*

5 Those who are powerless in death tremble; They are even lower than the waters and their inhabitants.

6 The Grave* is naked in front of God,And the place of destruction* lies uncovered.

7 He stretches out the northern sky* over empty space,Suspending the earth upon nothing;

And this time the meaning is quite different the Verse 5 say "those whi ... in death"

verse 6 says again "The Grave" and "the place of destruction lies uncovered" ...

then verse 7 indicate "he stretched out the sky over empty space" ... this empty space is the Grave ( Dead doesn't know nor dream" this place is really empty.

And this earth is upon this empty place. Not in space like JW say ... but upon the grave wich is the empty place.

When we read context we see that it's not Scientificaly exact , because it is not the description of something that is a science fact, but something that have to do with Grace and Death and the human condition

My New Fascination - Evolution!

since leaving watchtower i kind of hit the "reset" button in my mind and reevaluated what i thought i knew, what i believe and i require proof for every idea put before me before i commit to it.

lately i've been fascinated with evolution.

as a jw i never even looked at the subject, dismissing it as "just a theory".

What do you read or see exactly ?

Because often ( I'm alway JW ... on the paper but not in my mind :). A long story ... )

When I talk with people ( and JW particularly ) they only see / read subject that they've seen In publication.

In my "reference", I know that "Evolution" is a Fact !! a Real Fact !

Consider for example :

- Erv ( Endo retro virus ) that are common between apes and mankind. This kind of virus could only be passed through reproduction and genes

- Genetics

There is alway all excellent book : Dawkins, SJ Goul, C. Sagan, Alexandre Meinesz

Series : Cosmos ( Sagan and nowNeil deGrasse Tyson )

Archeology, History ... even it's not really in touch with "Evolution" they give "clue" on what is really the World and what is "Evolution Theory"

Last of the big conventions?

friends

had lunch with some friends during today's waste of time convention.

they spoke of the rumor floating around that the jws will move away from these big regional conventions and have them at assembly halls and tie them in to kingdom halls.. they seemed to believe it was a pretty reliable source.. i think it would be too good to be true but who knows?.

anyone else heard this rumor?.

48% Capacity at Kingdom Halls - A post on reddit

there was a letter read this week, followed by a talk about all the changes that are coming in the next couple of months regarding merging congregations in the area (va/md/dc) - the letter said that the kh's in the area are only being filled to 48% capacity.

this was music to my ears as i have noticed the decline in attendance in all the neighboring congregations.

they will sell some kingdom halls and merge some congregations.

KH seem to less than 50 % occupied

But the illusion of full is maintained by the presence of foreign language congregation with a french congregation.

Visiting Japan and saw one of those Carts. What is the purpose of those book carts for the borg?

i'm in japan for three weeks visiting my sister-in-law and brother.

the people are so polite and i came across two female jw using the cart.

it is the same experience i noticed back in the states.

Elder told me that they are required to report to police.

yesterday i had my weekly "mandatory" study with an elder, and i brought up child abuse and the whole issue with reporting it to the police.

he told me that they are required to report to the police immediately, and that they never deter people from reporting anything.

may i remind you that i am from denmark.. i find this interesting, as everything i find elsewhere states quite the opposite, or atleast provides statements that does not agree with his statements.

here in France normally "must reporting to the police" but in fact not.

Some month ago 2 elders come on "visite pastorale" and they talk about 1 case in the congregation

but at this time no report to the police neither "exclusion".

I think that they continue with "two witnesses rules" .

I suppose that Elders said "we report to police" but the reality is sadly different. According to declarations of Lett "pedophilia is apostates lies and dishonesty" or with A. Morris when he said the curious parallel between pedophiles and homosexuality
