i've been posting at jws for just over a year, i know a few names here and it looks like there is lots of good banter going on.. i am a second generation, born-in who grew up in west-central scotland.
i pioneered in edinburgh and later married and settled in berwick just south of the border.

Would it be fair to compare JWs to Terrorist Organisations?
by african GB Member in-terrorists are prepared to die for their course,.
-jws are prepared to die for jehovah.. 2 terrorists treat those with different views as enemies,.
2 jws treat 'worldly people' as enemies.. 3 terrorists are brainwashed from a young age,.

It's probably not a fair comparison but I used to ask my ex that if Jehovah decided that HE wasn't going to be the one to do the killing but his will was to be carried out by the Witnesses - would he take part in it? After all, it would achieve the same end result. He couldn't agree, but it did make him think that if you support such an action, you should be willing to carry it out. I think most witnesses would recoil at this, but there are undoubtedly some who would do it, therefore become terrorists, the same as any other.

The Day I had an Epiphany

as i lay in bed that sunday morning, i knew i was never again going to rise hurriedly to get myself and the kids dressed and fed for field service.
i was actually feeling relieved and wanted to just turn over and go back to sleep, certain and content in my decision.. the day before, i had stood at the end of the block, after working a territory filled with barking dogs and people sleeping in after a hard days work week, and thinking, "never again".

I was a young mum with 2 small kids, struggling to make ends meet. I knew I had to go back to work part-time as my husbands job wasn't paying much at the time. I had bought my son a really crappy pair of shoes for the assembley and they were so crap the buckle broke off. I couldn't afford a new pair so I had to (with great difficulty) sew the buckle back on. They looked ridiculous. lI found a job (as I have a college education), and I was standing at the literature counter on the Thursday night telling a sister that I was going back to work part-time. My husband worked shifts so he would look after the kids in the afternoon when I worked. She looked at me in disgust and said "I think you are being very materialistic" - I was stunned and could hardly speak for the tears. I said I think trying to buy my son a new pair of shoes is a necessity, not being materialist. I had to go into the toilet and have a good cry. She was a sister who had a husband with several shops, a big house, loads of money. I decided then and there that I would NEVER go back. I got a job, met REAL people again and my life began.

My sons in London have just gone to a talk with Richard Dawkins and they said it was absolutely fantastic and were extremely impressed with his argument for the non-existance of God.

My Book of Bible Stories--extremist?

god's word tells us: "all who are living in godly devotion in association with christ jesus will also be persecuted.

I agree that there should be some sort of education regarding cults and their practices so that kids are forewarned about what questions to ask and what to look for. Unfortunately J.W.s are often seen as a group on the fringes of Christianity and not a cult so they are allowed a lot of freedom. There should be a much bigger campaign to highlight the damage they do. As regards the My Book of Bible Stories, I used to read this to my son when I had stopped going to the meetings but I decided I would not read it any more to him after really thinking about what it was actually saying and depicting in graphic detail. At one assembly there was a little kid up on the platform, with Bible Stories book in hand, talking about being teased as school. When asked how he dealt with it he said that he just reads the page about them being destroyed at Armageddon - to which he got a HUGE ROUND OF WHOOPS & APPLAUSE. I was sickened and did not appluad - here was a young kid being encouraged to think that death was the way to deal with difficult situations. It has been a memory that has never left me - a child terrorist.

Find these posts really interesting. Please do not feel guilty over past decisions Cantleave as they were made with the best intentions. Unfortunately, when you 'break free' you look back and cannot believe how you could agree with such actions. We have all been there, and, yes you are right, everything you did was coming from the cult mentality. You are moving forward to a much better place, and I am sure the anger will lessen, but it is not easy. Peace and Love to you and your lovely wife and all the best for 2010.

Feeling Unfit, Fat and Unhealthy
by cantleave ina semi-serious request.. i hate exercise (yes i am an indolent slob), i sit in an office or a car most of the time and eat and drink too much.
so my new year's resolution is to lose weight (about 3 stone would be good) to try and prolong my life a little since i ain't got eternity in mind anymore.
i am looking for fun ways to get fit, or an effective home based diet programme that has worked for other people.

I try and 'be good' during the week and then have a couple of days 'off' at the weekend, that way you don't deny yourself anything and can look forward to a pint or whatever at the weekend. Also walk whenever you can - a power walk if possible. I am saying all this in the knowledge that I feel like a 'blob' myself at the moment!
