Hypocritical quote from article on Watchtower.org
by drew sagan inwas looking at watchtower.org when i came across this paragraph: when one falsely shouts "fire!
" in a crowded theater and some are trampled to death in the wild stampede to get out, must not the shouter bear the responsibility for the resulting deaths and accidents?
when someone says, "i do not agree with what you say, but i will defend your right to say it," are you given carte blanche, unlimited freedom, to say publicly whatever you wish, regardless of the consequences?

Sure, todd, but if everyone thinks that then nobody is going to want to get burned to death! Where is your brilliant plan now?

Oh, and to the other person who said something to the effect of me trying to "deconvert" people:
On the weekends, I go around trying to convert atheists to christianity.
On the weekdays, I post on the internet trying to convert christians to atheists.
I figure it all balances out in the end.
(that was said tongue-in-cheek btw. I'm using Firefox 3.0 and I don't have a new IE tab for it yet so I can't get smileys or format my post properly.) -

What about the military's use of weapons that kill by burning, such as napalm?
Yeah, I actually thought of that after I made the thread. The only argument I can offer is that napalm is not the only way to wage warfare. So it's still possible to say that war is acceptable when necessary for the purposes of national defense etc etc, but burning people to death is not acceptable. -

Well yes, that's the bOrg's main argument against hellfire. "A loving god would never ever torment anyone with fire!!"... and yet the bible tells us that he does. So either he isn't loving, or he isn't god.

Alright. I was kind of wondering, since christians (at least, the type of christians who are apt to support the Old Testament god) are usually opposed to relativism, while you were supporting it. It makes more sense to me that you are an atheist.

So, are you going to answer the question, John?
I'll demonstrate how it's done by answering yours:
If a raging lunatic was running at me with a knife, I'd use my flamethrower to clobber him on the head. ;) And by the way, you're not so much older than me. I don't think you've earned the right to talk to me in a condescending manner quite yet.
Leviticus 10:1-2 (Aaron's sons)
Numbers 11:1 (an unspecified number of complaining Isrealites)
Numbers 16:35 (250 of Korah's incense-burners)
2 Kings 10:10-12 (Elijah says, "If I am a prophet of Jehovah, let fire devour you and your men! Fire descends from heaven and roasts 102 men.) -

(in addition to what's mentioned there, I would also like to recall the instance where Joe Hoobie personally roasted Aaron's two sons to death.)
I found it interesting that even though christians ALWAYS claim a moral highground over atheists, mostly due to their stance on things like abortion, cheating, etc etc, in this case that argument is thrown back in their face.
Atheist have a clear, definite answer: Yes, it is always wrong to burn people to death, no matter what the circumstances.
But christians (the fundamentalist types, anyways) simply can't answer that question, because they are confined by the actions of their barbaric mesopotamian sky-fairy.
Discuss.
