@ journey-on Humans create things because doing so triggers a release of endorphins, which makes them feel satisfied and happy. It's a very basic positive feedback system. I hope you are not suggesting that when god created it gave him an endorphin rush. An all-powerful being should, as far as I understand, be complete within himself. He shouldn't need to create universes to feel satisfied. Hence my comment about god being incomplete and therefore impotent. And how much less so would he feel the need to create intelligent beings (humans), put them in a world full of misery and suffering, and then conceal himself from them so that they don't know which way to turn. Oh, but it is!!! There is pleasure to be found every minute of every day, even in the smallest things. A noble but sadly mistaken sentiment. The Eternal One awakened to consciousness. How is he "eternal" if he only "awakened" 15 billion years ago to create the universe we see now? Seek and you will find. The way I look at it, if knowing about god is so important then he can come down and tell me so himself. I only have a few years on here; he has an eternity. I apologize for my ugly formatting, this is the least user-friendly forum I've ever come across. I don't even know how to edit my posts :-/

I Pondered God's Existence Today, and
by journey-on inponder this scenario:.
an alien "scientist" totally unfamiliar with the human and its anatomy comes to earth and sees a human sleeping.
it sees no other humans around, so has no frame of reference to evaluate this creature nor understand what it is doing.. the alien slices into the mans skull and pulls out the brain.

Why would god create the universe? If he created it for his own pleasure, he is incomplete and therefore impotent. If he created it for our pleasure, why isn't it pleasureable? And why does he hide himself from us?
Because it does affect your life. By tapping into that Higher Consciousness, you may be able to taste a bit of the godly. Become more inspired Become more creative Develop more love and joy Understand your fellowman a little better Be more open to learning new things Become more appreciative of Life itself Recognize that you yourself are a tool by which the Universal Intelligence experiences this physical plane. (And countless other positives)
I can do all of these things without the needless complication of introducing some abstract god into my life.

Using My Beard as a Fading Statement
by daniel-p inshould i use my new beard as a way to let jws know i'm firmly faded and am not "discouraged" or otherwise planning on returning any time soon?
or would it be too strong of a statement and make the elders want to hound me?
the memorial is coming up, and while i'm resigned to go yet again, it might be a good time to make a statement.

If you've got a nice beard, why should you shave it? Keep it on.

Sounds like you're a Deist. I never understood what the big deal of believing in an unseeable, unknowable, impersonal god was. I mean, if he's never going to affect your life in the least, why bother trying to justify belief to yourself?
Also, I mean to say "nerve cells"; the lack of an edit function on here is really irritating.

What is consciousness? A bunch of nerves firing in a certain sequence? It's intangible. If I wanted to prove god's existence I doubt I'd liken him to consciousness.

Conciousness is imaginary, as is god.

My friend needs advice re: wife who wants to leave JWs but won't celebrate
by truthseeker ini have a friend who has started the slow fade.
recently, his wife talked about leaving, but she is still hung up on worldly holidays.. this is what he says.... one of the concerns my wife has about leaving "the truth" is that she wants our children to grow up with wholesome examples and association with their peers.
my wife knows jws aren't the only religion to teach their kids to behave morally, but what about the holidays?

Witlesses feel left out at christmas time. They speak with such hatred and disgust of anyone who celebrates christmas. It's obviously a case of organizational sour grapes.
