  How big is apostasy?

  in the short time i've lurked and been on here, i've seen a couple of new people join, and tell their experiences.

  my question is, how big is apostasy in numbers?

  could we take a rough guess?

  I guess you first have to define what the word "apostate" refers to. The Watchtower has used varying degrees of language to describe apostates, from anyone who speaks out or is critical of the Watchtower, to any and all persons who have left the oranization for any reason.

  Unfortunately there is no public set of data that records the amount of outspoken ex-JW's there are... but we can perhaps make guesses according to how many people are disfellowshipped. The Watchtower has occasionally published disfellowshipping figures as being between ~35,000 to 60,000 per year. If each of those persons at one time or another says or writes something critical regarding the organization, then they could be called apostates.

  I'd bet the figure is in the millions. I've heard some say that there are more exJWs then there are current JWs.

  hello friends, rifter here from jwr.. i'm starting a new project using google maps to plot locations, news articles and other sources regarding high-profile crimes committed by jehovah's witnesses, and other related reports.

  the project will be ongoing, and much of the data so far is based on articles posted in the in the news section of jwr.

  i will soon be adding data from additional sources whenever possible.

  Do you have a way for the sources to be something other than URLs which are susceptible to removal?

  I too have encountered this. Some news sites archive older stories online, others do not, and require you to contact them for a copy. Most of the stories are quoted in full on JWR. In the event that a missing citation cannot be replaced with another source, I will cite the article title and date, which in most cases can be verified on request with the media outlet. Wherever possible, I am linking to more than one source.

  I'm starting a new project using Google Maps to plot locations, news articles and other sources regarding high-profile crimes committed by Jehovah's Witnesses, and other related reports. The project will be ongoing, and much of the data so far is based on articles posted in the In The News section of JWR. I will soon be adding data from additional sources whenever possible. I hope this information will be of some use to others while researching the Jehovah's Witnesses.

  You can view and browse the worldwide map by clicking this link, or the image below. Clicking on the points of interest in the map will reveal excerpts from media articles regarding such reports, as well as links to any available citations.

  

  This map aims to be a database of crimes committed by members of the Jehovah's Witnesses, as reported by independent media outlets.

  The aim is not to suggest that all of JW's are criminals. Rather, it serves to annihilate the false notion promoted by the leaders of the Watchtower that their organization constitutes a "safe haven" from high-profile crime, violence, and sexual victimization. Rather, independent sources clearly indicate that such activity is at least as common within the confines of the Jehovah's Witness community as it is within the rest of society, if not more common, due to the socially isolated nature of the community, Watchtower policies that harbor criminals, and the higher prevalence of mental illness.

  This map is updated manually based on postings on the JWR forum and searchable online news outlets, and is by no means a complete representation of all crimes committed by JWs. Not all media, court, and police reports mention the religious affiliation of the accused.

  ks10-e (official release), Letter from Bro. who scanned it! Newer version with BOE LTRs

  while an earlier version was made available privately the time has come to 'progress'.. conscious class and ex both strongly adhere to not keeping things 'hidden' in regards to wts publications, talks and documents which are circulated in order to maintain it's position.. another wonderful poster (who has yet to give me permission to name) has 'reduced' and 'bookmarked' the first full copy link i was given by our 'winner'.. in this newest and final 'clean' copy link you find two other additions besides the reduction/bookmarking..... the brother who uploaded the entire book wishes all to have a copy that includes both boe ltrs (pre-ks ltr and spiral binding ltr).

  also another development has occurred.... the brother responsible for this book being brought into light and put forth for public consumption and discussion has requested i post this letter explaining to 'us' (jwn posters/global audience) and 'them' (wts of penn & ny).. i ask you give attention to his words/ experiences as he is representative of a newly emerging demographic within the conscious class.

  so without further ado i give you his link and the 'stage' if you will to 'brother johnson'....... [link removed - contact ynot for further info - lady lee].

  Okay, well perhaps try one of the other links, if you have a bittorrent client it will work.

  Update: The ISOHunt site is blocked from within the USA. It has nothing to do with the file itself. The Watchtower has not succeeded in taking down the file. The other links will work for those of you living within the US.

  cabasilas, where are you seeing this? I am unable to duplicate the message you are receiving. When I click on the ISOHunt link I am able to download as normal.

  In any case, if the WT tries to "censor" torrent links, it will accomplish nothing. They are only able to remove the listings in Bittorrent sites - not the distributed data itself. The files are not hosted by any one particular party.

  a poster named melita said some really inappropriate things on barbara andersons thread on jaracz's stroke, which got me to finally post this, just to put it out there...... when i first left, i was scared s*itless that i was being monitored and watched by bethel for reading and posting here.

  and i bet i am.

  I'm an admin on one of the other ex-JW sites. One of our member's blogs received a takedown notice from the WT.

  He ignored it and so far no further action was taken (he is overseas). But they definately read 'apostate' sites and attempt to take action wherever possible.
