One hundred eleven assemblies
by JimmyPage inmy dad visited recently and somehow we got on the subject of assemblies.
he's been in the truth 37 years and figured he'd been to 3 assemblies a year.
that meant he had been to 111 assemblies in his life!

God, just think of it. One hundred eleven assemblies. That's over two years worth of weekends!

My dad visited recently and somehow we got on the subject of assemblies. He's been in the truth 37 years and figured he'd been to 3 assemblies a year. That meant he had been to 111 assemblies in his life! Then he tells my wife, "So you're just getting started." Boy, what a lot to look forward to! Really made the end seem near.
It got me thinking, too, about how potentially dangerous some assemblies were. I remember going to one in an open air stadium during a killer heat wave (people in the city were literally dying). The assemblies lasted at least four days then and me and my brother were little kids. Seat belt laws were not enforced and sometimes we rode around the big city in the hatchback of the station wagon while my Dad would get frustrated trying to navigate somewhere he'd never been long before GPS was invented. Good times!

Everything About Being An Elder is Weird (my misc rambling memories of being an elder)
by AllTimeJeff infor any brother who is a jehovah's witness, the goal is put before them to reach out for the privilege of being an elder.
i can only speak for myself, but being born into the religion, i wanted to be an elder since i was 5. i would have much rather wanted to be a doctor or engineer, but those are the breaks..... i'll skip the part about what it takes to reach out, all the crap you have to put up with as a ministerial servant to get appointed, and go straight to the reality.. i know many elders who sincerely just wanted to be shepherds.
i did want the spotlight.

Great post as usual, Jeff. Now I just had to right click copy the beer and paste it to see if it disappeared for me, too.
What do ya know? Ha ha!

Blood on the doorpost
by JimmyPage inrecently an elder told me he compared conducting a regular family study to the israelites putting blood on the doorpost.
they were doing just what jehovah asked them to do prior to being delivered, just as family study is what the governing body is asking jws to do in these last minutes of the last hours of the last days.
to his credit, he did say this was just his own idea, not what the society says.
