Often our mind will wander out of control. The key is to tame the mind. One way to attempt this is to concentrate purely on our breathing. It's like practicing scales when you first start learning to play the piano. The more you practice, the better you get, and even when you can play Rachmaninoff, you still spend time on those scales.

Zen living part 8 (summarized): You've already started living zen
by JimmyPage inyour life has already begun, and you can start living in the moment right now.. everything you need to live mindfully and completely is already within you.. doing your job, maintaining personal discipline, and developing devotion toward fellow sentient beings and the care of the world are ideal arenas for practicing mindfulness and letting go of attachments.. zen meditation, or zazen, is simply but mindfully sitting to cultivate full awareness.. meditation is difficult because the mind is in the habit of attaching to thoughts, feelings, ideas, and opinions.
everyday sitting will gradually train your mind to observe rather than attach..

Anyone look at this board while still an IN and ACTIVE JW?
by Mad Sweeney ini vaguely remember looking at this board a few years ago, before i ever considered leaving the borg, and being appalled at the evil and hateful attitudes i saw here and scared to death of reading any further.. now i go back through years and years of posts and there is no evil or hate there at all.
it's one of the most kind and welcoming boards i've encountered since the invention of the internet.. that is how well borg indoctrination works.
it is eerily like 1984. black is white.

While an active dub, I googled the name of a CO who rubbed me the wrong way, found a thread about him here, and have been addicted to this board ever since.

How did 1975 effect your family? here's mine...
by Aussie Oz ini just spent a few days with my dad.
i asked a few questions about the time when mum became a witness which i know is still, 38 years later, a painful thing for him to talk about.
in the course of it, he also learned some stuff that he did not know about the pressures of the times.. as i expected, mum and dad have different versions of this time, and it is pretty hard to find the real truth in it and in some ways it does not matter anymore.. mums version: she first was contacted in echuca late 1960s and dad put a stop to it.

My parents have never specifically referred to 1975 (perhaps for good reason!) However they did get involved with JWs in the early 70s, so I am dying to know how much the 1975 expectations actually played a part in their joining the cult.

Planted a seed today... Update on de-program of my 16 year old son
by Aussie Oz inwell, some of you know that i have a 16 year old son who lives with his jw mother.
she has already mastered the art of guilt control on him.
i am most anxious that he not get baptized at all or at least unless he has really understood the whole truth, not just the watchtower truth.

Oz, if you were my Dad, it would be a no-brainer which parent I'd want to hang out with. You're doing a great job, and I have a feeling it's going to pay off! Keep your chin up.

"The Men Who Stare at Goats". "Burn After Reading". "O Brother Where Art Thou?" Personally I really enjoy seeing the oddball trail he's been blazing.

Other Revelation Interpretations
by maputo95 inhas anyone read other works intrepretating "revelation" such as done by rc, baptist or lutheran scholars and also by humanists.
the mark of a cult, i feel, are restrictions put upon the membership to only read their own literature.
they also exalt their position which is usually: "only we have the right interpretation because only we have the "truth", consequently jws will not read other interpretations of scripture as they believe these to be "satanic".
