What will you do when the Great Tribulation Begins?
by Malkiel ini've always wanted to ask this question to those that have decided to leave the organization.. what will you do when the great tribulation begins?.
right now folks, a lot is happening in the political world.. gordon brown (prime miniter of england) last week gave a speech to the un stating that it is time for the un to step in and solve the world's problems, (specifically mentioning the economy and hunger crisis worldwide.).
barrack obama is shaping up to be the next president, a fellow who sure knows how to persuade and lead great crowds.

The WTBTS is trying to decide on a year text for 2009. Here are the scriptures they are trying to choose from: Ecc. 12:12: "To the making of many books there is no end and much devotion to them is wearisome to the flesh." Luke 18:11: "O God I thank you that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unrighteous, adulterers, or even as this tax collector." Deut. 18:22: "When the prophet speaks in the name of Jehovah and the word does not occur or come true, that is the word that Jehovah did not speak. With presumptuosness the prophet spoke it. You must not get frightened at him." Does anyone know of any other scriptures that might be in the running?

I'm always right....ALWAYS! and you are wrong!
by odie67 inmy husband tells me that i act as if i can never be wrong, i always have an answer for everything...everything!
....that i'm always pointing the finger at the next person and that i also have the "i'm a victim" attitude.
he thinks it's my upbringing as a jw.

Wow! I do have this problem and never realized it until I got married. I knew I could always justify any argument I made. My Mom always said I should have been a lawyer. But I never realized where this attitude came from until now. It's my JW background! I am continually amazed at how much I am learning about myself and life in general from this site. Great topic!

You really can be as up front as you want to be because you are not baptized yet! But as soon as you take that plunge you open yourself to being shunned by your family if you say or do anything the borg considers wrong.

The generation change- why now?
by JimmyPage ini understand why the change in understanding of a generation was made in '95.
it was because the time was basically up for the generation of 1914. but why do you think the latest change has been made at this particular time?
and how does it tie in to the new light about 1935 that was revealed this past year?

How the new "generation" study went down in the meeting today
by slimboyfat ini made a big effort to get to the watchtower study today.
i have not been to the meetings much for months, but i figured this was a pretty historic "study" and i wanted to see reactions and how it would go down locally.
well a few things struck me as a bit odd in the study itself, and in the audience response as well.

I studied the article Sunday morning while my wife slept and then I read the JWD Watchtower Comments thread about the article (which was excellent- it really opened my eyes to the true meaning of "parousia"). I have never been to a meeting where I felt my eyes so open while everyone else seemed oblivious. I made it a point to tell my wife "you know this is a major change in WT thinking". I also made sure that she understood that we had new light about 1935 in the past year too. Her reply? "Well with all this new light doesn't it seem like we must be right at the end?" So there's the JW reaction in a nutshell. I replied "Well it's hard to say really." I thought , you've got to be kidding me! All the while thinking about how many times the WTBTS has flip-flopped over the years. Unbelievable. One thing I can say for sure, from the comments given, NO ONE liked the 95 version of generation! But do you think they said anything about it before? Hell no! They didn't want to be apostates LOL!

Johnny Carson's bandleader was supposedly a Witness. And Johnny supposedly said he was going to become a Witness when he retired.
Drew Carey wrote a short story about a Witness in his book "Dirty Jokes and Beer".
