if being fat is such a health risk (like cigarettes), why don't the jws disfellowship people for being obese?.
i know in some cases, people gain weight due to medical problems that are hard to control.
Well...I suppose that everyone here that is so quick to pick on fat people (the last "acceptable" prejudice) are all Twiggies. I am always amazed at how some (not all, thank goodness) people who have never had a weight problem are so quick to point their skinny little fingers at people "of size". You cannot accuse anyone of gluttony if you don't actually live with that person and see how they eat.
I personally have witnessed many THIN people who eat like pigs. At congregation picnics & such they would go back for plate after plate of food. Maybe they were just exceptionally hungry that day, or, maybe THEY were gluttons. So being "obese" doesn't necessarily make you a glutton. Also...would you DF someone who had an eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia? They are also doing damage to their bodies.
I personally find this subject offensive. Just say NO to Fat prejudice. If you don't know all the details about a person, which most people don't, then quit judging them.

Oh my, my, my!! I wasn't much for that bubbling business. In fact...looking back at my dreaded service time and at the meetings, I didn't notice too much "bubbling" by anyone! (Though we did have one bubbler in the back which dispensed iron laden water that was so putrid that it deterred many a person from getting up for a drink to relieve the boredom of the meeting.)

getting to know various personalities on this board, i get to feeling that a missing component in my life is to get *really* into something.. for instance, the board has our resident intellectuals and political debaters.
i am in awe of the broad scope of knowledge and seemingly instant recall of obscure facts that many on this board seem to have.
i consider myself to be fairly intelligent, but i am light years from being a true intellectual.

i had it shoved in my face in the subway at 42nd street this morning by the jw drone who stands there.
as usual, i controlled my urge to kick her, but the title of the article caught my eye, pet lover that i am.. i would assume it lays a load of guilt on anyone who holds their pet in high esteem..
Dang...and we just adopted a Golden Retriever from the Humane Society!!
Seriously...owning a pet has been scientifically shown to lower a person's blood pressure and reduce depression. (please don't ask me to back that statement up...I think I heard that on 20/20).
Pets, especially dogs, also give a person unconditional love. Something the JW's know NOTHING about. No, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if they had an article against owning pets (except maybe goldfish). They would take up too much time that a person should be spending on the never-ending treadmill of JW slavery.

as many of you now know, i was in the mental ward for a breif period.
after i got out of the mental ward, i was placed in group therapy where i am today.
i talked with my therapist today and he mentioned a very interesting fact.
I also have to agree with Blondie. Mental disorders such as being Bi-polar or suffering from chronic depression are genetic. I suffer from chronic depression as did my mother and an aunt of mine on her side; plus the added bonus of depression on my dad's side of the family. A double whammy.
BUT...I really believe that being a JW AGGRAVATES these types of illnesses because of the unnecessary pressure put upon those in the organization. Also the fact that the elders are NOT trained to deal with mental illness and end up making your problems worse with their inexperience and total lack of compassion for those who suffer from such diseases.
So my opinion is that being a JW does not help anyone who has a history of mental illness...but rather makes things worse. Of course if you leave, then you have the added pressure from JW relatives and friends who decide to shun you. Yup...that really helps my depression!
On the other hand...I have felt a certain sense of relief in just not being on the JW treadmill and have also saught (is that a word? How is that spelled...come on all you people who used to win spelling bees; I'm too lazy to get out my dictionary) professional help and am on medications that have helped me enormously. Sure beats the advice of a CO who told me that my depression was the result of a "secret sin" that I was not acknowledging or repenting of. Jeesshhhhhhhhhh...can anyone be that ignorant??? YES YES and YES!!

i just heard the most brilliant plan ever.
we draft an all purpose legal document to send to the wts stating that "i,__________ do not want any jw's ever coming to my door, please put me on the do not call list and send this to the congregation nearest me, if they do, i will construe this as harrasment and act accordingly" .
then we pass these out, do a mass mailing, give them to all of our friends, encourage people to make copies and give them to their friends, call it the sleep in on saturday document.
