one of the best things that happened to me was to become an elder, but before you prepare scathing remarks let me tell you why. As a publisher sitting there for years I could only imagine what went on in the 'little room' at the back of the hall, I always imagined this group of sincere men peering into the bible to find the nuggets of wisdom to make sound decisions, nothing could be farther from the truth, what goes on in there is appalling, the bible is cast aside and all you hear is personal experiences and human thinking, all the peering is into the 'flock' book to determine the very human societies policies. Becoming an elder was the best thing that happened to me for It really opened my eyes to an organization ruled by men not any supernatural entity and it played a big part in getting me out of the cult.

How did you spend the memorial?
by sinis inpersonally, i stayed at home (my wife went), made steaks, drank beer, and watched several vulgar/demonic movies in the world of the jw's (halloween, the eye, hitman, no country for old men, saw iv).
i later went over to my mother in laws house to meet up with some other in laws - who i saved from the jw's - and talked about how the memorial was a waste of f@cking time... then drank more beer waiting for my wife to come back...

What I dont get is how can someone who has opened their eyes to the cult can still go to the 'memorial' or any other religious meeting. Can someone help me understand? Do they think the celebration at a KH is better than let's say the same celebration at a Jewish temple or a Catholic mass? or are they all wrong and should not be attended to?

whatever the wt decides to do and whatever the followers of that group want to do is their business and has no implications on MY actions. As far as I am concerned I rejected their teachings deeming them a cult and decided to shun them, not the other way around, they are bad association and I dont want to get contaminated by their twisted thinking, so, not much would change, The way i see it is like this. If the neighbour next door was disrespectful to my wife or kids for a long time and we avoided him, his coming over with a peace offering and all manner of obsequiousness wouldnt change a thing, his earlier actions will still warrant a very skeptical attitude from my family and I. In the case of the WT, the followers are still full of twisted thinking and we dont have anything in common.
