Sounds like he read one of those books that try to help men get a date by being a take-charge kind of guy.

The Douchiest Phone Message In History
by Elsewhere ini'm giving you until a 3:00 pm deadline to listen to this phone recording and post your thoughts on it.. http://www.holytaco.com/2008/06/27/the-douchiest-phone-message-in-history/.
in all my years of studying douchebaggery, never have i encountered anything like this.
its such pure and unadulterated douche that i wish i could bottle it and use just a drop of it at a time.. the back story on this is that a girl named olga was out with her friends in the marina district of san francisco (known for being a popular hang out for douches), and she talked to this guy named dmitri for all of two minutes.

Your Favorite 80's Music Groups or Songs - What Did You Like ?
by flipper inthe 1980's was certainly a strange time for rock groups, and musical development.
lots of techno, beginnings of alternative , and some rock n' roll groups trying to push along.
what were your favorites ?

Journey, Heart. I liked the Cars, but they didn't interact with the crowd one iota.

I don't believe I've ever heard the f words used in that cadence.
What was Joe's problem? Did he just want to get his mug on camera? Good lord, don't those attendants know the world is going to see how they acted? Most jw's I know have the very mistaken notion that staying calm and cool means they are a peacemaker.
From what I saw, Tim did not deserve what they did to him at all. Although he could have deserved that towel-beating from his aunt for playing the Knack.

Star, I'm sorry for how some have treated you; new ones are usually warmly welcomed. Sometimes we just don't read the posts well enough and then are not able to be helpful. Most of us see what the question was and I'm glad you got the help you needed.
I guess a troll is someone who is insincere just posting something to get a rise out of someone. I never thought that about you.
Most here are anti-watchtower ( not necessarily Jehovah) because of the horribly injust way they were treated by people that were supposed to lovingly shepherd them. Please stick around a while; you may find information that could be useful to you.

Welcome to the board.
If you just need a scripture for your grandmother, 1 Corinthians 7:39 says to marry only in the lord, so you have that covered.
I used this on my very bigoted family one time, when they were running their mouths. They didn't like it, but they didn't try to argue, either.

profanity
by janitorforlife inmy disfellowshipped dad told me leaving "the truth" had not been good for me as i used too much profanity and liked to drink.
when i first became "free" i guess i went overboard with profanity and enjoyed the freedom to go to bars if i wanted.
they were novelties.

I had a really ingrained habit of bad language before I became a JW. Of course I went right back to it when I got out. I try not to ever say anything in front of people though. It mostly happens when I'm frustrated with something I'm trying to do.
I don't like the f word (unlike Hortensia ) but it might occasionally slip out when I'm trying to open a jar. Now my grandkids are moving nearby and I've got to get it under control again.
I never drank much. I actually feel like I need to drink more, just in case there might be some health benefits.

Great post, ltf.
I agree, Casper. Learning to be grateful can start to change your life.
The last couple of days I've been hoping someone would start a positive thread. Must be that law-of-attraction thing. I'm going to go to bed now and end up on a good note.

Why JWs avoid sharing in toasts vs. wikipedia
by song19 inso i stubled on the following image on gbletters site.
you have to love how the watchtower uses circular reasoning quoting from older watchtower articles to reinforce their points.
i thought i would have a look myself to see what the toast signifies and its history this was very surprising.

The only thing I can really remember about toasting was that the witnesses always said it had to do with the superstition of the clinking glasses keeping evil spirits away and that's why they would not join in.
I read an article a few years ago much the same as those on the poisoning. Except I think the host and guest extended their drinks to trade them, and if the host was trusted, they just clinked instead. Well that made sense to me - nothing to do with superstition. So I never had a problem with it after that.

Gone full circle...time to say bye
by digderidoo ini feel at the moment to keep posting on this site is doing me no good.
i used to post here many years ago and came across many things jw related that made me feel angry towards the way i was brought up.
in particular the 607 issue and the generation change.

Maybe you will still stop in to play the trivia game once in a while, huh? There's not enough space over there to bash the wt .
If this board is bringing you down, you've made the right decision. I'm sure most are here to get some understanding of what happened to them and then to forgive, heal and move on in life, although I am grateful there are old-timers here since they have a wealth of knowledge. I wish you every success and happiness.
