Make a statement you have found to be TRUE.
by gaiagirl injw's like to refer to their body of beliefs as "the truth", even when those beliefs are adjusted or even reversed, giving rise to the question 'if this is "the truth", then what were the beliefs which were promoted as "the truth" until the change'?.
state something you have actually found to be "true", in the sense that, in your experience, it agrees with what is observed in the real world.. .
i'll start: knowledge is power

Wait a minute....when did they come up with 6000 years for each creative day......I thought it was 1000 man years equals 1 day for God?
Restrangled,
All this is news to me. When I was a JW, I was taught that each creative day was 7000 years; man was now 6000 years into the last day, add the 1000 year reign to that to make the whole 7000. But the universe and the earth itself was probably billions of years old. I did not realize that they had different teachings in other time periods.

Things That Irritated You When You Were A JW
by minimus inthere were some witnesses that loved taking notes for every meeting.
whatever you would say, the note takers were busy as a bee writing down every word.
especially if you went out of town to give a talk, certain ones (only sisters) would take their note taking very very seriously.. another thing that used to get to me was when you'd see the same people every assembly on the platform giving a talk or being in a part.

Quitting what I was doing in order to get to the KH on time to meet my partner for field service, only to sit there and wait 20 minutes on them.
The sheer inefficiency of the car groups. Taking forever to get organized, do a few houses, go for a "break", then go do a few more. Sheesh, just do all the doors you're going to, put in a good hour, and let me go home, because I have work to do, and I don't have time for this nonsense.
Not knowing if an unfamiliar person at the meetings was just a visitor or a disfellowshipped person; how are we supposed to know? No one ever told me. It never made sense to me that if a person could be at our meeting, in our midst, that we couldn't talk to them.

That's an interesting story for sure, Lisa. Did you come from a religious background before the witnesses, or was that your first exposure to the bible? I'm curious.

Were you ever privately asked for money?
by ataloa inwhen i was studying, i was told that i would never be asked for money in the watchtower organization.
as far as i know, this was the general consensus in the congregation.. one time, our congregation was in a very embarrassing financial situation, being two months behind in paying the electric bill.
people were very unhappy with what was going on in the elder body, and of course, were not giving, because what else could they really do to make a statement?.

When I was studying, I was told that I would never be asked for money in the watchtower organization. As far as I know, this was the general consensus in the congregation.
One time, our congregation was in a very embarrassing financial situation, being two months behind in paying the electric bill. People were very unhappy with what was going on in the elder body, and of course, were not giving, because what else could they really do to make a statement?
Since there was so much uproar going on, and I was already questioning the motives of the GB, I was waiting with bated breath to see how that would all play out. Would the elders stick to their policy and put J to the test; would they see the unhappiness they had been causing everyone and bow their heads in shame and beg J's forgiveness and turn over a new leaf, and thus start the money flowing again?
They decided to designate the least-hated elder to go begging behind the scenes to certain people for money (even asking for specific dollar amounts) which they were coerced into giving, causing them to violate the principle of not giving under compulsion.
We were always told to wait on Jehovah, but they didn't have the faith to do that themselves.
Now it just occurs to me as I am writing this that I wasn't the only one waiting to see it play out. If those people hadn't been talked into giving the money, the electricity would have been shut off. Then what? No meetings? Private homes? The whole elder body deleted? I'll never get to know.
Did anything like that ever happen in your congregation? Is there written policy on not being asked for money?

I love Dexter! I've hardly watched any dramas in several years, but I got hooked on this during the strike and they showed it on one of the networks; now I'm sad because I don't get Showtime. But what a strange and interesting concept.

PO reads a special letter tonight...
by JWFreak inour po...who is really full of himself....reckons that he is reading a special letter tonight, he says he isn't allowed to tell fellow elders before the public reading.
just a word of caution....our po...is one who loves all the mystery and secrets, so my inkling is that it will be a crock of crap.
however it may prove to be interesting...i will tell you after meeting tonight.
