  No, we don't have it good in the states. I'm just barely scraping by and a lot of people are in the same boat. Meanwhile, in Saudia Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, etc, gas is a buck a gallon, and they live lives of complete luxury. Go pick on them for a change. Working Americans are getting screwed again like they always do.

  LMAO! Stop your woe is me crap. Even 'poor' Americans have it 5 times better off than most middle class people anywhere else in the world. It's gotten so ridiculous with the amount of cry me a river mentality on this forum. Go spend a week in Nicaragua or Indonesia or Vietnam or Crotia as a 'poor' American and then tell me how hard it is being a 'poor' American. That's not even including any 3rd world nations.

  Most 'poor' Americans have a high def TV if not 2 or 3. Most 'poor' Americans are obese rather than not. Most 'poor' Americans own cars. Most 'poor' Americans have a computer and high speed internet connection amazingly enough. No, those you claim are 'poor' are no such thing. Do they try to live beyond their means? Yes. Are they 'poor'? No.

  Car mpg performance. Can anyone explain this?

  i have a 2001 saturn sl1.

  it has just hit 200,000 miles.

  (almost all job related) i get 37 mpg on the highway.

  Well insane conspiracy theory ranting and raving aside, the reason is because the EPA has changed the way MPG is calculated.

  Previously the MPG on car window stickers was pretty optomistic if not downright impossible to achieve. Now they have gone to the other extreme, by adding additional drag, air conditioning, and higher speeds on the highway. It is now pretty easy to best the mileage listed these days.

  To find real world MPG go to the various sites where they do test drives and extended road tests of the model you are looking at. Also, almost a truism across the board is that we have added horsepower to engines and faster acceleration times rather than gas mileage. You can do one or the other, but not both. In the 80's we were focused on mileage due to CAFE standards. By the 90's and 2000's it switched over to providing more horsepower.

  There is a huge difference from what you 'remember' getting MPG back in 1985 when speeds were 55 MPH vs. today with much higher speeds and electronic equipment to power.

  Hopefully gas will hit $6 a gallon and stay there. Nothing has helped the oil addicted US more than $4.25 gasoline. For the first time in a long time (several years) total driving miles dropped last month. People need to realize the real cost of commuting and driving.

  Wireless carriers, power companies, water companies, gas companies, cable companies, and all the rest agree to government 'intrusion' in order to serve the whole of an area. Funny how you don't want to pay for anyone else, but the moment you are called on your own personal welfare you stick your head in the sand. Typical Republican.

  LMAO! Says the guy who 'lives so far out' yet is 100% reliant on the government to supply power to his shack, highways to drive his vehicle into the city, phone service, internet service, plus a host of other benefits.

  It's always been amusing to me that so many of the western states that tout 'self-reliance' are also the biggest beneficiaries of the federal govt largess. Those of us in the cities, and the NE pay far more in than we get out, yet still see the benefit of a standard of living enforeced by the government.

  As long as they give off light, I'm not too concerned about it. Seriously, we're talking about freaking light bulbs. Whatever is out on the market in 2016 is what I will buy.

  I've noticed that many of the posters that are upset over the 'government intrusion' are the same posters who were frothing at the mouth over the govt needing to step in and help mortgage borrowers, create a national healthcare program, and stop oil companies from making 'so much money'.

  The moment these posters have to actually put their money where their mouth is, howls of 'it is unconstitutional' abound. It's 8 years away! How could anyone give a care one way or the other 8 years out?

  Women need to get over the b.s. marketing that they have been force fed and indocrinated into believing. The whole "June Bride" crap needs to be flushed. Women from about 16 years of age on start reading the 4,000 page monthly magaizines about weddings and get enraptured by the marketing that their wedding day is "all about them". GAG!

  Way to often I've been sickened by this false belief. It also puts incredible strain on a relationship. I've had two of my str8 buddies break off the entire thing because of the stress and unrealistic expectations of the wedding planning.
