I was an elder in the Beverly Hills Congregation for many years. The Menendez family were never Witnesses.

L.A. D.A. Announces His Office Is Reviewing The Menendez Brothers' Conviction
by silentbuddha innot sure if anyone really remembers this case, it was huge at the time.
the very interesting point though about this was that at the time the parents were known to be very active in the jw religion.
i also believe that the father may have been an elder(i could be mistaken, though).

Yes he did. Knorr replaced Jaracz with Barry as head of the Australia branch. When Barry and Jaracz were both on the GB, Barry chaired the Writing Committee and Jaracz chaired the Service Committee. For years those committees were at odds with each other. It could be argued that Writing had more clout with the GB as a whole than Service. When Jaracz tried to pull the first article written on child abuse, Writing prevailed and the article was released.

Given the turnover of men in this position it’s pretty clear it’s not a job with a great future.

Where is Tony?
by Athanasius inon february 22, 2023, anthony morris iii was officially removed from the governing body of jehovah's witnesses.
a few months later it was revealed that the watchtower bought him a house in lumberton, north carolina.. however, and correct me if i am wrong, since leaving the gb nobody has reported seeing tony attending jw meetings or participating in field service.
in fact nobody has reported seeing him anywhere, not even at a local liquor store.

I believe elsewhere on this site it was explained that the second house was purchased for another Witness couple and that Morris had friends in Lumberton where he had served before.

Manners and Respectfulness
by IWant2Know ini would like to know if there are any ex's or formers who still appreciate good manners and respectfulness?

There was actually a drama recorded on the subject of manners as it was thought by some of the GB that it was needed. I know about this because I was assigned to compose the music for it. As I recall, Jack Barr was involved in the production and played the principal elder by means of voiceover. Long story short, it was never used on a convention program. This was not too long after Jack died.

Has anybody ever heard of this in their local area
by joe134cd ini heard of a jw wedding that:.
(a)wasn’t done in a kh, and was performed by an elder.
(b)the ceremony was done on a sunday.. i find this surprising for 2 reasons.

Of course this was a number of years ago, but I officiated at a wedding on the Sunday of the Circuit Assembly. It was scheduled for after the close of the assembly. Many in our congregation and other congregations attended. It was held in a hotel ballroom and, although I didn't find out until arriving, it was Disney-themed! The whole thing was hastily put together which is suspicious and I didn't question the couple regarding their maintenance of chastity. No elder wanted to touch this one. I did it because I had great affection for one of the family members of the bride. Within months, the bride and groom separated. Neither was what I would call mentally stable. My point is that some pretty bizarre scenarios played out despite the "preferability" of a KH wedding.

"Watchtower" vs Jehovah's Witnesses
by NotFormer inrattigan350, whenever someone brings up the failings of the organisation we refer to as "the watchtower", tries to define the argument away by saying that the watchtower is a corporate entity and has very little to do with the kingdom halls, the christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses.. could someone who knows their stuff please explain if this is a false dichotomy, using the literature which is used by r&f jws, if possible?.
it gets kind of tiresome when someone makes a point about something that the watchtower said and mr. apologist comes along and tries to define away what is usually a very good point..

In the years leading up to 2000, there were two goals that were pursued at headquarters in Brooklyn. The first was to analyze the way money was being spent with a view to more efficient spending. The second was insulating the Governing Body from legal liability. Advisors were employed to analyze and opine regarding spending practices. Corporations and orders were created to separate the organization's various departments and functions. This was thought to act as a "corporate veil" or firewall around the Governing Body. When you debate about which of the many entities within Jehovah's Witness organization you are referring to, you are doing exactly what the organization would have you do. Straining out the gnat while gulping down the camel has never been a good strategy.

I knew the Buettells in the 1970s. They were lovely people and still are. I don’t think they feel cheated. I believe they are happy with how they’ve lived their lives.
