  i'll start the ball rolling.

  dealing with kids in any type of judicial manner.

  i would do everything i could to get parents to "deal with it-kindly" at home.

  I will mention two, because they are so different, yet they illustrate corruption on very different levels.

  I sat on a special committee that was adjudicating a business dispute. Without going into the details of the case, I witnessed prejudice, bias, Simony, cronyism and noncomprehension of the facts, all on the part of the Service Department. The committee and I lost a lot of innocence on that one!

  The object of the second case was a gay man whose background included a failed marriage. He had been advised by the elders that marrying a sister would "cure" his homosexuality. He had been disfellowshipped and reinstated several times for acting on his impulses and inclinations. I sat on the committee that reinstated him for the last time. We learned over several hearings that he had not been promiscuous, but was simply aching for intimacy and affection. He pursued them in the only way that his brain could process. We learned that the reason he lived in a predominately gay neighborhood was so that he wouldn't stand out or get beat up. All he was surviving on was ice cream because his feelings of guilt made it impossible for him to eat (or keep down) anything else. Some months after his reinstatement he took his own life.

  All of the judicial situations that I witnessed were disturbing, but these were two of the worst.

This rare allowance caused Charlie to think this man was a "person of interest." Charlie wanted to make sure he would make a return visit on him, so he asked his name. "Heston" (through clenched teeth), was the reply. Charlie was later informed that he had just spoken with "Moses" and about Mr. Heston's ties with the NRA, etc. I doubt that Charlie ever made that RV.

  My father was in the record business. One of his labels was Magic Key Records. He released a series of children’s albums on that label, one of which is presented here for your amusement.

  The cover photo was taken on my parents’ bed. The young girl is my cousin, Laura, and the young boy is my nephew, Jeff. The book she is reading is From Paradise Lost to Paradise Regained.

  My father, wanting to “get a witness in,” chose the “Paradise Book" for the cover and the pictured story designed to lull children to blissful sleep is the chapter entitled “How We Know We Are In The ‘Time Of The End.’”

  Regarding how we know we are in the time of the end, it is of ironic interest that the above events transpired in the early 1960s.

  You couldn’t make this stuff up.

  jwfacts: I was completely joking. I fully understood the point of your comment. I just couldn't resist quoting it out of context so as to apply the old joke that compares lawyers, or anyone else for that matter, to pigs. Then you think better of it, because the comparison reflects poorly on pigs.

  I too have worked with many fine lawyers who are both honest and succinct. Unfortunately, I've also slogged through writing such as djeggnog's.

  If anything, I should apologize to you for a joke that didn't work.

  Now, I have the highest regard for jwfacts. However, I, as a legal assistant (not by choice), take umbrage at his statement above. To suggest that djeggnog is better suited as a legal assistant (to an unscrupulous, overbilling lawyer, or not) is an insult to legal assistants everywhere.

  it's important for them to understand these theocratic expressions so that they too can understand and speak the "pure language" of truth.

  How Did You Deal With God Destroying Non-Witness Relatives that You Loved?

  i had to do something to deal with the likelihood of their being destroyed.. those i was close to in the faith, and i, had the hope that, sometime before the end, some issue would arise that would wake up our relatives and other loved ones to the realization that they had to come into the fold.

  So many of my non-Witness relatives were, and are, good people. I had to do something to deal with the likelihood of their being destroyed.

  Those I was close to in the faith, and I, had the hope that, sometime before the end, some issue would arise that would wake up our relatives and other loved ones to the realization that they had to come into the fold. Some would speculate that the destruction of false religion would be that event, even though the notion is at odds with “current truth.”

  The other thoughts that we comforted ourselves with were that: (1) the God of Perfect Justice would not destroy anyone without just cause; and (2) even good people would be destroyed for the crime of “t[aking] no note,” as Jesus described those destroyed in Noah’s day.

  Those thoughts worked for me, for a long time, and I believe they keep many current Witnesses pacified on this issue.

  I’m curious to hear of other techniques that any of you used, when you were associated, to rationalize a loving god destroying good people.
