Minimus, I posted this some time ago: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/210045/1/History-of-Brooklyn-Heights-As-Told-by-Russell-Kurzen
It gives a little more detail.
they say that seinfeld was a tv program about nothing.
in the end, it was all silliness.. this religion is inconsequential in the big scheme of things.
it's stupid.. .

the national organization for jehovah's witnesses was ordered to pay $13.5 million to a san diego man who says he was abused as a child by his bible teacher.
nbc 7's rory devine reports on oct. 30, 2014.
In reviewing the docket in this case I found two interesting aspects. First, Lopez requested an entry of default against Watchtower and the request was granted by the court. The judgment could have been triggered by this default. If it was, or why their default was entered, will only be known by reading the court papers. Second, Gerrit Loesch was subpoenaed to be deposed as Watchtower's person most qualified. He, as an "interested party," filed papers with the court in order to have the subpoena quashed so he wouldn't have to be deposed.
If I have some time over the weekend, I will download some of the documents related to these two issues for some more clarity. JWLeaks needs to jump on this one!

From what I can tell so far, this is not a settlement but a judgment. WT would not appeal a settlement but they do appeal adverse judgments. The coverage on San Diego 6 is very poor in this regard. Also, WT settlements are usually, if not always, confidential. Confidentiality is an important requirement of the settlements they enter into. Oviously, this is not confidential.
If you want to track this case and its history you can logon to the San Diego Superior Court website under Register of Actions. The case number is 37-2012-00099849. WT has hired the same appellate attorney who is representing them in the Candace Conti matter.

long time lurker, first time poster here finally looking to get some things off my chest.
i've always been a very curious person with tons of questions about everything, and i also care deeply particularly about societal issues like social injustice, racism, and homophobia.
that, coupled with how boneheaded all the elders in my congregation are (except for one), led me to ask even more questions that led me to find ttatt.. .
Love your screen name. There's always a party going on in Lett's face. I'm optimistic that the good advice above and your well-functioning mind will win the day, as far as your wife is concerned. I've been on this road a little longer than you, and I can certainly recommend the journey. All the best.
"meaning, of course israelites living among all nations" (social science commentary on the letters of paul, p.17) (italics mine).. .
the above authors suggest that paul was an "apostle to israelite minorities living among non-israelite majority populations" (p.7).
for me, such understanding clarified a number of things that were, in effect, hiding in plain sight.
Certainly makes sense too. It would be far more difficult for Paul to be an effective "apostle to the nations," i.e., gentiles, as interpreted by JWs and others.

Interesting perspecitve. Thank you for sharing it.
sorry for such a depressing question, but i was moved by a picture i saw of the consequences.
( a woman carrying her child) and i realised:-.
a) it was a civillian population.. b) i don't see how a nuclear holocaust can ever be right.. c) they could have bombed tokyo where all the generals lived but chose hiroshima.. d) the irony after the bombing america conceeded to many of japans terms.. your opinion would be valued..
Just to add a bit of information I came across: my late step-father-in-law was of the strong opinion that it was the fire bombing of Tokyo that brought Japan to its knees, not the two A-bombs. Unfortunately, I don't remember whether he felt the A-bombs were unnecessary or not. I should probably mention that his name was General John Beverly Montgomery, assistant to General Curtis LeMay, head of the United States Strategic Air Command.
