I attented the two-day circuit assembly this past weekend. Here are some things that came from the mouth of the district overseer over the course of the two days.
1. The recession isn't going to end. Things are screwed because the demons are controlling the world. Because of this demonic control, worldwide economics are going to get worse before "the end" comes.
Why it doesn't make sense: If the "demons" are really trying to keep people away from the "truth", then wouldn't they be doing their best to keep people happy instead of making the miserable and more likely to seek out "God"? Additionally, there have been recessions in the past. What makes them so sure that this one is the last one? Why isn't the world going to end five recessions from now?
2. Vampires are evil and demonic. The main reason is not because of their consumption of blood, which you would think is the big no-no. But the real problem here is that they are immortal! Immortal fictional characters are of Satan!
Why it doesn't make sense: So you're telling me that fictional writers can't make stories that have immortal characters in them. If they do, they are automatically demonic? Good lord, they are really reaching now.
3. Sports are controlled by the demons and there will be no sports in the "new system". If you spend your time now watching and rooting for a team that will ultimately be destroyed by God, you're wasting your time.
Why it doesn't make sense: I will say that this assembly was very anti-recreation, just as the district convention was very anti-science. The general impression I got was that the only recreation Witnesses could safely engage in is hiking. I will also add that a Christian family was shown to be sitting around playing Uno. Wait - isn't Uno devised by Satan and ultimately to be destroyed??

The Watchtower no longer officially denies that there was a Big Bang, but they do credit it as a First Cause. I was at the convention this summer and I was actually shocked when I heard this.
The problem is that scientifically things are getting harder and harder to deny. You wind up sounding like a moron.
In this talk, the speaker acknowledged the scientific belief that the universe was 14.7 billion years old, a number that was realized by determining when the Big Bang was. However, the speaker went on to discuss that this was no random event, but a First Cause by Jehovah.
A year or two ago, they printed in a study edition of the Watchtower that the organization supports all scientific understanding UNLESS it opposes what the Bible (or Governing Body) says. So while the planets evolving from accretion isn't far fetched, human evolution is because the Bible clearly says that God made Adam from the dust and Eve from Adam's rib (which doesn't jive - why not just make Eve from the dust as well instead of ripping Adam open?).

Hi, folks. It's been a while since I've posted here. I've been trying to figure out a way to live inside my mind.
I'm not going to post my entire history again, but here's the deal.
I am a baptized, card-carrying forty-year-old Borg member. I no longer believe in a god of any kind. I am an atheist. I tried to leave the Witnesses when I was 23, was guilted and shamed by my mother into not doing so, convinced myself that there was some value to the Witnesses, and remained one. I did a decent job of blocking out logic and not critically thinking for a few years until my brain threatened to implode under the pressure.
I have been dealing with depression lately, and very painfully so. Last year, though I didn't actually contemplate it to the point that I tried to find ways to do it, I thought about suicide. People said it was a permanent solution to a temporary problem but I didn't (and still don't) see this problem as temporary.
I have three kids and a wife. I not only despise the Witnesses, but all religion. I think that it is a blight on humanity. The problem is that I love my wife and kids. My wife, like the rest of my family, has given themselves over to the Lie and allow their thoughts to be one with the Borg. My wife is a Zealot and she would let them cut her heart out on an altar in the Kingdom Hall if they asked her to.
Some people have suggested just going through with the eventual divorce that would occur, but I really don't want to put my kids out like that, either. Either I stick around in excrutiating mental pain, but be a father to my kids or this ends in disaster. I can see them on weekends or a couple of times per week, but that's not what I want. And I'd never get custody, what with no support system. My wife has her family and mine to help her support them whereas I have nobody but myself. I'd rather it not come to that.
My wife doesn't care about thinking critically or science. She's otherwise a very intelligent person, as many Witnesses are. She's never going to "come around" to my way of thinking. The kids I think eventually will see the Lie for what it is. They are open to my preaching to them about scientific things.
But back to me. I feel my life slipping away day by day. I have lost all joy and all interest in just about everything. I just try to make it through each day. I've not gone to a therapist of any kind because there isn't much point. I already know what the source is. I just can't stop it without making a bigger crater. The depression of ruining my family and "joint custody" of my kids doesn't seem like a better fate.
I no longer have pleasant suicidal thoughts of me just being permanently at rest. I have this depressing vision of my growing old in a world that I can't fully partake of or enjoy.
And I've even tried to look up psychological information of how prisoners cope with life sentences, but I've not been able to find anything. The only information I have found is on prisoners who will eventually be released. This is discomforting to me.
EDIT: I would like to also point out that my sister's ex-husband left the Lie a couple of years ago. He left my sister and their daughter. He sees her once a month and during holidays and this is what I am trying to avoid. I don't want the family destroyed. Further, both his family and my family hate him. He is little better than Satan himself in their eyes. But he seemed to be okay with that, went and got remarried to another woman, moved to a different city, etc. I can't see myself doing that, not in a million years.

That scripture was written when everyone on Earth was a geocentrist. They believed that the world was the center of the entire universe (though they didn't have much of a concept of "universe" back then).
Today, we rightly would understand this scripture to mean that the Earth just stopped spinning. This causes all kinds of physical problems.
The following is taken from: http://starryskies.com/articles/2003/09/earth.rotation.html
Earth is rotating at a speed of about 1100 miles per hour. If our planet suddenly stopped rotating, the atmosphere would still be in motion at that speed. The atmosphere would be moving so fast it would literally sweep the land masses clear of anything not anchored to bedrock, this would mean rocks, soil, trees, buildings, people and animals. All would be swept up into the atmosphere.

I stumbled across this in the July 2009 Awake! on page 29 in the article called "Is It Wrong to Change Your Religion?"
The full quote is as follows:
No one should be forced to worship in a way that he finds unacceptable or be made to choose between his beliefs and his family.
It is this type of statement from the Watchtower that makes me disrespect them. This is the worst kind of deceit because people's lives are involved. This is exactly the position that they put Jehovah's Witnesses if they join and later decide that they want no parts of the religion.
I want to believe that the men at the top of the Watchtower pyramid are just misguided and confused. But to put something like this in print is nothing short of hypocritical.

Last night, during the Congregation Bible Study, the conductor (overseer?) used this as a platform to say that the movie Avatar is of Satan and no Christians should see it.
He said that he googled the (original) meaning of the word Avatar and it was of Hindu religious origin. This was all the information he needed to conclude that the movie was full of demonic spiritism.
He said that he hoped that nobody in the congregation had seen it and if they had not, please don't.
He said that Satan makes it appealing, but it is altogether evil.
After going on about it for ten minutes he was able to get a couple people to chime in. One woman said that her grandson was watching the cartoon Avatar and it was clearly demonized. (She and everyone else in the congregation are too stupid to know that the cartoon and movie are completely unrelated.)
He almost spent fifteen minutes of the study on this.
It's bad enough when you have the WBTS encouraging stupidity from their literature, but it's worse when you have individuals get up on a soap box and promote their own opinions on the congregation as though they are God themselves. -

How long will the WT Org. help the Haitians?
by moshe inthey have 16,000 jw's in haiti who are now mostly desititute and will be for a long time.
how long will the wt hand out free food, clothes, shoes and pay for their medical care?

In this case, the Society might see it as throwing good money after bad. Haiti had a barely functional infrastructure as it was. After the earthquake, anything even remotely resembling an infrastructure was wiped out. Who knows how many years it's going to take to get things going in that nation again.
