NWT & KIT Prove Jesus IS Jehovah!

i have not seen this discussed here before so i thought i would share it with the group.

romans 10:9 proves that jesus is jehovah.in the jw's kingdom interlinear translation of the greek scriptures they went to great effort to show that the tetragrammaton was supposed to be in the greek texts.

so, every time the name jehovah appears they show a footnote directing the reader to see how ky'ri*os applies always to jehovah in one or more of their j documents.

The whole confusion the WTS is creating with their idolatrous use of the Tetragrammaton (and then in a corrupted form) becomes obvious from the total mess they make of the beautiful (even to a non-Christian!) christological words in Romans 14 where kyrios (Lord) clearly always (and not only in v9!) is obviously intended to refer to Jesus. Just compare the nonsense text of the NWT with a more reasonable translation (e.g. New Revised Standard Version):

NWT - Rom 14:5 One [man] judges one day as above another; another [man] judges one day as all others; let each [man] be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day observes it to Jehovah. Also, he who eats, eats to Jehovah, for he gives thanks to God; and he who does not eat does not eat to Jehovah, and yet gives thanks to God. 7 None of us, in fact, lives with regard to himself only, and no one dies with regard to himself only; 8 for both if we live, we live to Jehovah, and if we die, we die to Jehovah. Therefore both if we live and if we die, we belong to Jehovah. 9 For to this end Christ died and came to life again, that he might be Lord over both the dead and the living.

NRSV - Rom 14:5 Some judge one day to be better than another, while others judge all days to be alike. Let all be fully convinced in their own minds. 6 Those who observe the day, observe it in honor of the Lord. ( not the party line) how is it put into practise and is it working?.

When was the last NWT revision released?

i seriously wonder if there are any qualified bible translators left at brooklyn or patterson.

that is assuming that there ever were any there in the first place.. there might not be anyone qualified in the watchtower organization to make any revisions at all.. the watchtower today wants lawyers, accountants and construction engineers, not people trained in biblical languages!.

In the NWT 1994 edition on page 1547 (bottom) it says:

[ ] Brackets enclose words inserted to complete the sense in the English text; [[ ]] suggest interpolation in original text.

This edition has Col 1:16-17 with brackets.

In the NWT 2006 edition on page 1549 (bottom) the first part is missing; it now only says:

[[ ]] Double brackets suggest interpolation in original text.

This edition has Col 1:16-17 without brackets (pages 1469, 1470).

The current (2008) Watchtower Library uses New World Translation Reference Bible (1984) (same as previous version 2007; with brackets).

2008 WT Library Question (1st JWN posting too!)

okay, i haven't been really paying attention to all the letters read to the congregation in the last two month.. this week it was some stupid announcement about mandarin chinese and the keep book being mp3 audio-ed on jw.org (if a publisher is computer illiterate, a cd can be ordered from the organization-but a brother who is tech savvy should offer to burn one instead of incurring cost to the slave).. then i realize i haven't heard squat about the 2008 wt library (cd or dl?)..

so i just checked my 07 wtcd and we have daily texts until the week of march 5, 2009 feb 26, 2009.. does anyone have any info on the 2008 wt library?.

is it going to be a dl or cd?.

Thanks Rocky for the English WT Library!

I have first opened the gi file in Isobuster, converted it from there to ISO, then mounted the ISO in Deamon tools and installed it. It all went fine and smoothly, put at first I was a bit puzzled by the rather unusual gi format (it is smaller than ISO, though).

JWs as portayed in the media

this is a spin-off from the thread about bill maher's omission of jws from his film, "religulous" that shamus100 started.. i cannot recall ever seeing the jw misology accurately portrayed in the media.

most recently there was the premiere episode of us tv series "lie to me" in which the supposed jw kid said that he was praying for the souls of some people.

at that point i changed the channel.

There is one main reason why JWs are often inaccurately described in the media: complete disinterest in the details of their faith from the general public. The authors know the name, and they know that JWs are some sort of weird Christian fundamentalists. That's enough for a story (sometimes even a good one as in "Lie To Me", if you are able to abstract from these particulars and details); they have no reason at all to do any more research, and 'frankly, my dear, nobody (except ex JWs) gives a d***' (to adapt a quote from Rhett Butler).

And, of course, (ex) JWs take themselves and their suffering far too serious and important, and tend to think that the whole world is aware of that - and cares. It does not.

Has anyone seen this Watchtower article before?

hi, my first post here.

i stumbled across something in the watchtower 1981 magazine (in my wbts library cd) showing the faithful and discreet slave is "a composite individual".

i have never seen this anywhere before, but the wbts set-up of the fds as "a composite individual" looks somewhat similar to the trinity of three divine persons in one true god.

This is currently the standard doctrine. But as with almost everything taught now by the WTS, this has not always been so. In the early days, at least until 1923, it was "Pastor" C.T. Russell himself as an individual who was understood to have been the FDS.

Also called Tel Megiddo (Har means mountain, Tel means hill) - it's a beautiful and fascinating archeological excavation site on a hill not far from where I used to live, near the pass through the Carmel ridge and overlooking the Jezreel valley, about fifteen kilometers road driving distance south-west from Nazareth. It is part of the Tel Megiddo National Park and well worth visiting...

There's a nice kibbutz of the same name nearby.

Why do you believe in the Trinity?

i believe in god but no longer accept the wt's views.

i still find the idea of the trinity hard to accept, however, probably because of my jw upbringing.

a coworker's child died and i attended the church memorial.

Having some background in philosophy (epistemology), especially Kant's teachings of the "thing as it is" and its "appearance", I can accept the concept of the Trinity in the same sense I accept that "water" appears in different forms - there is ice, there is liquid water, and there is steam. That's how we perceive "water", how it appears to us depending upon circumstances and our current way of looking at it, but underneath there is the essentially unknown and unknowable "water as it really is".

BTW, I also like parakeet's answer...
