My home Congo looked extremely stressed. I was actually a little surprised that most everyone I knew was still there, but there were very notable losses. Most striking was there was ABSOLUTELY nobody new. Not a single local recruit. Some jaydub was imported from Iowa, he was the only face I didn't recognize.
I guess I can't tell the difference from "normal" now that I've been away so long, but everyone looked pretty stressed which I interpreted to be related to the "we've lost ground and its embarrassing" sitch.

The growing irrelevance of the Watchtower message
by drew sagan inin many ways it appears as if the watchtower movement is slowing down.
a number of changes over the last few years certainly show that the watchtower is in a period of transition.
they have cut back on the number of magazines they print as well as lowered the cost of production by eliminating things like hard backed books.

Spirit Directed Organization..How?
by Blueblades incorrect me if i'm not understanding this phrase, 'spirit directed organization'.. my understanding is that the watchtower has recently taught ( someone may remember the exact watchtower that this was taught ) that the anointed and every jehovah's witness has the same holy spirit, no more no less.. nothing special is directing the watchtower society when it comes to understanding the scriptures.
.
why then do they keep on using this phrase, that they are being directed by holy spirit and still use it when asking one of the baptism questions.. if they have no 'special knowledge', how is it that they write talks about being directed by holy spirit especially when it comes to distrct convention talks.. blueblades.

Speaking of shams, I just found out JWD is very much the same sham.
I just had an entire thread, to use Orwells word, vaporized. For questioning the men behind the curtain here. It doesn't exist and never existed. I'll probably be vaporized next, so I'll take the opportunity to let you know that its been a pleasure knowing you all, but there's no use my trying to make history if its just going to be rewritten to suit the moderators wishes.
I'm morally offended that you people don't understand the first thing about the freedom to think, speak and believe. You've betrayed my trust, and it makes me physically sick.

In my Blaze of Glory self-aposticization to an old friend who played the "come back and I'll be your friend" card and set me off, I had a moment of clarity and said "Truth doesn't need so much help".
Every man woman or child on earth would throw themselves into service of god, if they found whatever claim about what God wants credible (true). Not believing extremely implausible things or obeying the orders of men who appoint themselves above you does not indicate you are evil.
Give me a credible God and I'm all his.

Oh I forgot to add, I'll be your friend Terry, if you join MY cult :oP
One naughty thing I might do if one particular shunnerpants gives me the evil eye (talking about you Phil, congratulations! You popped by "shunned" cherry, you will always be special to me buddy! It felt good (he could be lurking here, naughtypants!)) .... Is walk over and make some remark about how I miss our friendship, but I can't associate unless he/they get stronger in "the truth".
Another would be *make crazy eyes* "I'll be your friend, if you join my cult" *continue crazy eyes*
Ahh, I'd actually prefer the equivalent of a cordial class reunion, but what are the chances of that? I have a feeling I'll be popular amongst any trapped souls. Its an experiment worth making.

i checked yes and wrote "parents are jehovah's witnesses and may try to stop a blood transfusion.
i wish to have a blood transfusion if medically necessary.

Hmm you just gave me a good idea. We should make taking a shot of goats blood a ritual before every apostameeting to route out any moles (and have a tasty treat).

Elder calling around
by Am ha·a'ret ini'm a new member as i've not completely left the org yet and being a "good lil jw" would never have looked at a site like this previously!
there is one elder in the cong who calls around every so often to "chat" as i only stopped attending meeting a couple of months ago.
i've spoken to him about certain subjects - eg the un thing and the misuse of quotes - but he has no useful answers for me.

@BreakingAway:
I agree completely, but the prejudices of the typical cake-eater would just revert to visions of braindead or brainwashed automatons so I felt like I needed to voice some righteous indignations. In my case, and maybe your's, soldiers are what happens when a man/woman decides they DON'T want to be like a witless. :oP
I had a Vietnam Vet (now PO) come up to me kinda snottyish "so a bit disillusioned with the military" I couldn't stop myself from responding "well I was never really 'illusioned' in the first place". Hehe, our eyes met and he knew I wasn't only talking about the military. Ahh. I have a lot of respect for a man who's been through what he was wanting to embrace passivism/religion, but that doesn't give him permission to disrespect me or anyone else. In some cases experience and perspective does not equal wisdom. No Mr. RamboPO I do not subjugate my opinions, thinking or conscience to your holier than god self.
War is the worst thing there is. That is very easy to agree about. What to do about it is much more difficult.

Still looking, but it gets a lot easier once you know for sure it isn't a matter of a big a-hole judging your worth based on whether or not you believe extremely implausible things and will kill you if you don't believe extremely implausible things. Once you get over that crap, chasing God is a pleasure IMHO.
Seriously. Take JW perspective.
1. God loves you if you believe extremely implausible things and live accordingly.
2. Your work for god is to tell others about the extremely implausible things. If they believe the extremely implausible things they are good, if they do not, they are bad. Why they can't seem to understand that EVERYBODY would do what god wants if he were to just ask in a plausible manner is really beyond me. This notion that failing to believe extremely implausible things makes you bad is something I could never understand. I never understood why knowing "the truth" would be anything but a comfort (not a requirement). Even if it were true, what sense does it make to judge people based on their gullability?
The meaning of life is to just "know" the truth which is made very difficult by the fact it is extremely implausible. Really really good people are those who can suck it up against all reason, evidence or observation and believe what others don't. <--- Take comfort in my goid news folks, 100% certainty, this ain't how "it is".
