Sweetpea, I was sort of aware of the website for a while, but my hubby (Missinglink) suggested that I take a look. I think a lot of witnesses are aware of the website but would never dream of checking it out. I seem to remember them making quite clear which websites are JW approved. I can't remember if they went as far as to say Jehovahs-witness.com on the platform but there was discussion somewhere at sometime because my mom actually mentioned it to me recently. I'd discussed some of my issues with the WTS and said I was finding lies in doing research. She asked me if I was going on to websites "because there's one called jehovahs-witness.com that's an apostate website." Those are her words. She's 65 and does not use a computer or know much about the internet but she knows that this site exists.

thanks for the link, Jamie. The desciption of the book made me smile:
"The Tower of Deception is his response to the Watchtower’s invitation for “careful and critical examination of its contents in the light of the Scriptures” (Watchtower 8/15/1950, p. 263)"
Is this the only invite they've made to be examined against the scriptures? And what about the author - Is he just finding the invite or is he just getting around to responding?

Satan overkill
by Switch ini remember in my teen years thinking about the constant warnings of satan "transforming himself into an angel of light" and wondering how in the world did i stand a chance against a demon?!
a demon thats had thousands of years to suss things out and trick people in various different ways without them even knowing.
he led angels to rebellion.

Exactly, Unfree. Only this year I've started to realize how much they've been stressing Satan and his influence in the publications. I know they've discussed it on a regular basis since I was young but is it getting to be more frequent??? Maybe it's my imagination. I can only take the articles in limited amounts these days cuz the negativity gets to me.

Liberty, I think much of what you said is what was in the back of my mind 20 years ago.
I've never been afraid of demon-possession but always wondered about the subtle ways that the WT warns about. According to what they say, I could be trying my very best to do what is right, but it may all be for the wrong reasons. How would I really know if I was serving a righteous god or a demon? The only answer I see is that I wouldn't.
The WT has much to say about Satan/false prophets misleading people and it makes me shudder now to realize how well it applies to themselves. The WTS seems to write the Devils tactics a little too frequently IMO. I think it's just one of the issues that has contributed to my fade.

Hi everyone I am a newbie and I need help
by philosopher ini have been coming here for some months y i must admit that i am still in.
but i have serious doubts, i mean, i am 99.9% convinced, the jws are not the true religion, but i still live with my family, and they are jws, and i love them.
my parents have a long time been jws, and it is very hard for me to tell them the truth.

Hi Philosopher. There are so many (myself included) that are trying to find that "nice" way out without being DF'ed or shunned by family and friends. This forum is great cuz you can bounce your thoughts and ideas off people day or night. I've been biting my tongue when it comes to family cuz I want to have it all straight in my own mind before I try and explain the hundreds of reasons why the Witnesses can't be the true religion. Try to figure out for yourself what your most troubling issues are and then research it so it's clear to you before trying to share any thoughts with family. That's all I can say for now. Be sure to read everyone's experiences here. Some people have good success.

District Conventions are awful if you have kids. (Learn why!)
by easyreader1970 ini know that many of you have not been to distric conventions in some time, but what i am about to describe is a recent trend.. 1. more people than seats.
for the past six or seven years, they've tried cramming too many congregations into one convention hall at one time.
in many cases, if you do not get to the convention more than an hour before the program starts and you need more than a couple of seats, you cannot find seats.

You mentioned behaviour too. It reminded me of how crazy it would get around the time that the new releases are handed out. In Ireland, they frequently run out of new books so everyone rushes to get in line. I remember watching a brother shuffle backwards down the aisle during the song and prayer so that he'd be first in line for the new literature. It was comical.

So, so long. Can't they make these shorter? Yes, I have kids. They are altogether evil, according to the Society. They make me miss spiritual gems that flow from the platform. They distract others. They will only grow up to leave the Organization, anyway. Why not just abandon them? Why are the sessions so numbingly long? Five o'clock in the afternoon? Can we not subject small kids to this sort of torture?
I'm hearing ya ER. We used to make it through about a day and a half. On Sunday, we'd start the drive home after breakfast since I couldn't stand the boring public talk anyway. Then, they changed the drama and put it on Sunday. (The only thing remotely interesting for the kids to look at.) Sneaky. So this year we're not going at all. What's the point of taking two small children and basically exhausting us all? The kids never sleep properly in hotel rooms. We barely heard any material anyway. It's a lot of money spent and none of us enjoy it.

There was lots of hype when A.I. came out and I found it long and torturous to watch. Not at all what i was expecting.

I remember in my teen years thinking about the constant warnings of Satan "transforming himself into an angel of light" and wondering how in the world did I stand a chance against a demon?! A demon thats had thousands of years to suss things out and trick people in various different ways without them even knowing. He led angels to rebellion. He fooled Eve. He had the audacity to tempt Jesus. And according to the WT, he'll try to lead astray the flock, even the anointed. So how does the average Joe or Jane Publisher fare in his attacks? I would always push this thought to the back of my mind but I find myself thinking of it again lately. It's not just a simple case of knowing what is good or bad because Satan would be sure to have those bases covered and make the bad appear to be good, right?
To quote The Truth that Leads to Eternal Life, page 64, para.20:
"Although false religions may appear respectable, we should realize that the Devil is like many modern-day underworld or crime leaders who hide behind a front of respectability. What more subtle way could there be for him to deceive people and get them to serve him than by using a religious front that has an outward appearance of righteousness? That the Devil would mislead people by religion that outwardly claims to serve God is shown in the Bible...."
I thought it was my own weakness and doubt in my abilities at the time but maybe I've had an underlying doubt in the Society the entire time? The constant reminders that Satan is stalking us like a lion and reading quotes from the WTS, like the above, has pretty much cured me of any religious inclinations. Has anyone else felt like me? Maybe all the warnings of Satan's tactics make it seem like we're taking on the impossible?
