Can a JWs Elder be "removed" if his wife is known as the congregation "gossip"?
by booker-t ini remember in my kingdom hall one of our 5 elders bro.
"smith" had a gossipy wife sis "smith" who would be known to gossip from the time she enter the hall until she left.
i don't know how she never was reproved or counseled for her gossiping.

Hi Everyone
by Skbj inhello people,
i'd like to start by saying wow!
i've only just discovered this "world" of ex jw's so i'm still catching up on lots of stuff, my story is a bit long so don't know if people have patience to read :p but if you can bear the reading then i'm happy to share.

Wow, quite a road you've traveled. I like your accent, you're very fiesty too..I'm flabbergasted that at age 13 you grabbed a guy by the neck and slammed him to the wall and grabbed his jewels because he called you a "Jehovah". But seriously I applaud you for listening to your instinct and acting on it at any cost. You're a winner.

Voting for the first time!!
by wolfman85 ini'm 45 years old and i was raised as a jw.
i left the "truth" two years ago, but i am not disfellowshipped.
any of you ever voted being an active jw?

I heard it's actually not a disfellowshipping offense. Still it wouldn't be something one would not mention indiscriminately since it would be a stumbling act.

Our First Halloween
by Red Piller in(i grew up in the "truth".
) very risky, considering we are still active in the cong..... so we started at the first house and methodically walked up and down each driveway as worked along the street.. we were quickly over-taken by kids who were zig-zagging across lawns and doing houses in random order.
suddenly, it dawned on me.

Red Pillar: I think that your approach is very good in make influential changes to your families life gradual, that way it will seem natural and right. Sometimes not having a specific plan is actually best. Thanks for sharing.

Great that you celebrated Halloween with your kids. I enjoyed your post and went back and read some of your other threads to see if I could get a little info on how your family came to this momentous event. I didn't find anything along that vein so I'm interested in how your kids and wife feel about living a double life. Are your kids comfortable about keeping things like celebrating Halloween a secret to JW's?
Regarding the stinginess of Jw's. My thought is that the JW's with some means are reluctant to be to generous because many don't have a lucritive income or none. So when it is noticed that Bro and Sis generous have monies to spare....well you know the rest. We have never been paid back the full amount of the money we have loaned. Once my husband bailed a sisters husband out of jail (trumped up charges). Never saw them again.

As I watched the TODAY show this morning I was struck that there has been no bad news of looting or panic. I saw people standing quietly in line to get free food at a grocery store (saw that on last nights news). I saw reports and some footage of people sharing what resources they had. I am speaking particularly of Manhattan. I did not hear of any reports of looting or malicious damage. Although I did see a video on You Tube where in the DUMBO area some vandal smashed a bunch of rear windows. Other than that it looks like the people of NYC are getting along under some extremely difficult circumstances.

Jehovah's Witnesses: Who Can Baptize?
by Cold Steel inif you're a jehovah's witness and you have a child, spouse, or buddy who wants to be baptized, can you baptize them yourself if they request it?
this is assuming you're a jehovah's witness in good standing.
and is it common in the church?.

In my cong there was a woman who had MS. She was in her 40's and had studied for a few years. She was ready to get baptized but the dunking would cause a seizure. This was a given. Not a massive seizure but definetly some shaking and inability to speak clearly. So after an assembly about 10 of us gathered for this at a brothers house who had a pool in his backyard. This was about 10 years ago.

How Suicidal Thoughts can take over your Life.
by Lady Lee inhow suicidal thoughts can take over your life.. i lived most of my life thinking about suicide.
i have clear memories when i was 8 years old thinking about what it would be like to die.
i went to sleep every night of my young childhood saying the prayer:.

My warm thoughts are with you Lady Lee. There is suicide alcoholism and depression in my family tree. I do forgive my Dad, he was funny and could be charming, he never physically hurt us but emotionally he did without even trying. It's a tough legacy to carry. My mom had mental difficulties and drank to self medicate but managed to stop when my brother picked up the drug addiction (he's good now). My mom had a good heart. My life wasn't as bad as yours and others but still it wasn't a lot of fun either. At least I can say there were good moments especially in hindsight when I see what others have had to live through.
So congratulations for your resolve to get a hold on this. As for your daughter...I can't believe she could be so callous. I hope she is haunted by her unkindness and comes to her senses.

Ladies: A Purse Question
by Lady Lee inwhat makes a perfect purse for you?.
color?
size?interior or exterior pockets?zippered top or sections?long straps or short?material it is made from?

The bigger the purse the more disorganized I become. I like my purses small to medium. Shoulder strap for everyday, clutch for dressy. I try not to accumulate to many. I like having a few color choices and other times I prefer neutral shades. Gotta have a conveinant phone pocket and a conveinant way to pull out your cash card for purchases.
