When I was a lurker...I loved this thread and the speculation. Waiting for more good rumors! Anyone have sany good rumors from people in high places....What about the CO thing? That seems to have faded from discussion.
1914 doctrine was a major thing to me at the time i was a witness, i loved explaining it and saying we had the truth.
but there were so many witnesses that couldn't explain it at the time and only had a basic concept as to how they came up with the date.
i wonder how many here could explain and understand this when they were a dub?
I'm an MS, been a witness since about 10 yrs old. I would have to read a JW pub word for word to explain it. I could not do it off the top of my head. It's my guess that maybe 10% of active JWs could actually explain it to someone.
the thread about the old woman who died at the assembly got me thinking about how first aid is run at the conventions.
for many years i worked as an attendant, we were always instructed that, if there is a medical emergency to contact first aid and not to call an ambulance directly from the location.
in the age of cell phones it made much more sense to me to call 911 right away (for serious emergencies) , if it's a stroke or heart attack time is critical.
Mulan, you said: "He was great, and had all his equipment there"
(sorry about the highlighting, now I can't turn it off) Was he actually allowed to use it? While not being on duty / out of his jurisdiction?
my peer group (post-1975 born-in jws) seems to approach the jw religion in a different manner than earlier generations.
now, these folks still believe the wts is "the truth" and if you say anything that sounds "apostate" they start freaking out.
but, make no mistake, these jws are not your parents' witnesses.

Even though the WTS has been hammering education for the past few years, they still talk about sending their kids to college.
There are quite a few DINKs (dual-income, no kids)--where the wife may have been a pioneer for several years previous. And these aren't cases where they're struggling to make ends meet. Rather, they maintain a nice standard of living (new cars, vacations, gadgets, etc.)
Did I mention the vacations? When I was growing up as a JW, most of the friends were lucky to get a week at the beach. My generation seems to take a vacation every 2-3 months!
Yes, I notice the very same thing here in my area. Especially the Vacations (way to go, enjoy life!) and the new cars, gagets, etc...

Thanks Leolaia for the other threads on this...
I guess I have to realize as a newbie that much of this absurdity probably has been covered before. :-)

Thanks hillbilly and TM for your responses. I do realize that there are some trained people at the DCs, ours many times (like hillbilly's) had Paramedics, RNs, etc. But, with something like a heart attack you need defribrilation (sp?). Even though they were trained, they really have no equipment to do anything, ie epinephrine, defib, Oxygen. At out facility there was good access all around, on both levels for an ambulance to arrive close to the scene. I had always resolved to ignore the WTBS Societies direction if I thought someones life was at stake ( <--that is a really weird sentance to type...)
I also realize that 50 attendants calling 911 for various reasons could make the local Fire Dept upset. (if the calls were for non life threatening situations)
I just think they are going to get sued one of these days, especially if a family member of the decesed finds out the attendant was told not to call 911.

To sit there while a person is having a life threatening emergency and wait 10 min. for the 21 y.o MS who has a 'first responder' card makes no sense. In my mind they are liable for that direction. I think that could be a lawsuit waiting to happen...especially that there is documented direction from NY to NOT call 911...and call the untrained "brothers" in 1st Aid! (maybe some are trained, but they don't supply any lifesaving equipment)
Any opinions? Maybe someone who has worked in first aid.
