Since the majority of child abuse cases in the Borg are "ALLEGED" nothing will ever change. Most of the elders see the situation as "the little bastards are making the story up"

Lessons the Governing Body should take from the Joe Paterno scandal (but probably won't)
by sir82 in1) when confronted with evidence of child molestation, doing the bare legal minimum is not enough morally.
2) a carefully honed and managed reputation can be destroyed literally overnight if immoral actions / inactions are brought to light.
3) no matter how "high up" someone is, he is still accountable for his actions / inactions, and will have to pay consequences for wrong choices.

What is the stupidest comment you ever heard at a meeting?
by 3rdgen ina very reliable friend told me this: the bro was commenting on what was "unacceptable" conduct in the bedroom between married persons.
needless to say, he had everyone's attention.
he went on to say "we must avoid perversions such as oral and annual sex.

Too many to relate, so may I comment on the stupidist thing I heard this weekend?
I was visiting my hardcore parents Saturday, when the conversation started to get a little heated. The generation change came up. I handed my father his Bible and asked him to show me where the overlapping generation scripture is. My mother blurted out - "It's not in the Bible, it is in the Watchtower. Neil, go get the Watchtower and read it to Beth."

Should Joe Paterno resign over the Penn State child sex abuse scandal?
by james_woods infirst, i don't know if we have had a thread on this yet - so if this is a repost, ignore appropriately.. but i am thoroughly disgusted by this developing scandal - an assistant coach at pen state is accused of multiple, repeated, child sexual offenses.
a member of the football staff exewitnesses and incident reported it to paterno (years ago, it is reported) - and paterno reported it to the athletic director.
nothing was done, nothing was reported to the authorities.. finally, the scandal broke over the weekend.. i am deeply dissapointed with paterno - this guy was one of my football heros.

unbelievably difficult.

What's the most insensitive thing you have been told while grieving?
by 3rdgen ina few years ago my 21 yr old firstborn and only son died in an accident.
i was an active jw at the time.
in fact , i was at the meeting when it happened.

BizzyBee..
The best thing to say is just, "I'm so sorry. I can't imagine what you're going through" (because no one can).
So sorry for your loss Bee. To lose a child is absolutely incomprehensable - not to be compared with any other type of loss.
The greastest thing said to me during my (violent) pain was - "You will never get over this, but you will get through it" (words of wisdom)

I am reposting this from a thread I commented on 2 years ago. This elder's words will haunt me until the day I die.... If fact, they were so cruel I think it is important to put a name behind them. Alec Rusch, Sunset Park Congregation, Longmont Colorado June 22, 2007.
Two years ago my brother was killed in a horrific accident. I felt my world had come to an end. I was driving home from the funeral with my two daughters and my cell phone rings and it is an elder from the hall I used to attend (I had been out of the JW picture for over a year). He told me that they were trying to get a JC together to meet with me. I asked him if he knew my brother had been killed a few days ago. He said he did, but said no words of condolences (Probably because my brother was disfellowshipped). He proceeded to ask me if next Saturday would work for a JC. I was sobbing so hard I had to pull off the road. I asked him again if he realized what had just happened to our family. He said that I would lose my life like my brother if I did not get on the right road. I hung up and never did show up for a JC meeting.

In the Shepherd the Flock of God book...page 131 p.19... regarding sexual child abuse..."Whether to report the matter to the authorities or not is a personal decision for each individual to make."
In light of what is going on at PSU, is the above statement legally wrong?

The following is incredibly suspicious...
http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/sports/133615093.html
It is strange that Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar never prosecuted Jerry Sandusky on child-rape charges 13 years ago, some speculate, because Gricar was known for being fiercely independent and hard on crime.
But it is even stranger that we cannot ask Gricar why Sandusky was not put behind bars, because the tough-as-nails district attorney disappeared in 2005. And though he was declared dead July of this year, his body has never been found.

Paterno has been a God for too long. He thought he could do anything he wanted - including retiring with dignity. I admired and loved him and what he accomplished. However, as soon as I heard of the cover-up, I was happy he was kicked to the curb. This is what should happen to the JW elders and anyone else that do not protect the defenseless ones.
