I remember when we had to hide the chess set on Tuesday night before anyone arrived for the bookstudy. My father would sit in his rocking chair underling the Babylon Has Fallen book and say something like..... "We do not want the brothers thinking that we rejoice over war and killing" So we would fantically hide the chess set in the basement along with the Lucky Charms cereal and the cat food that had blood as an ingredient.

Awake 1973 banned Witnesses playing Chess..why?
by Witness 007 inare all articles from jehovahs thoughts or do personal biased views poison the watchtower articles?
imagine a brother who hates chess observing in discust two bethelites playing chess...would it be right to use jehovahs "spiritual food" to push your own warped view....yes!!.
awake 1973 3/22 p.12 chess- "...the spirit of compitition between players can lead to unplesant circumstances...most families can keep comfrontations to the chess board...but for some the tension lingers long past checkmate...chess has been a game of war since its origin...a play substitute for the art of war...there is a danger of "stirring up compitition with one another" even developing hostility towards one another, something the bible warns christians to avoid..what effect does playing chess have apoun one?

New DVD review
by Laika ini managed to catch the new dvd on youtube last night before the inevitable takedown.
as a film i felt it wasn't anywhere near as good as the prodigal movie, the story wasn't as dramatic, the characters much less interesting and developed and the direction weaker.
i found the prodigal relatively entertaining (all things considered) this one was just dull.. here are some of my random thoughts anyway [spoiler alert - ha!].

Assembly News Photo
by snare&racket inthis photograph from a news site is a succinct summary of a life in wt's hands....... look at their faces, it says it all.. also, note the watchtower pr machine in action, explaining that it brings 4 million dollars to the location.
(10,000 x 400 dollars) clearly a watchtower statistic, where is the care and interest for members who are struggling so much, with new videos encouraging less career activity, less work commitments, at an all time economic low for our generation.. http://www.standard-freeholder.com/2014/06/15/thousands-attend-watchtower-convention-in-cornwall.
father: "i'm a wt 'yes' man and proud of it!

That creepy little kid with the fake smile will continue to be the apple of his parent's eyes. He will quit school early, regular pioneer, work part-time at subway, advance quickly in the congregation, become a MS at 19 and untimately bachelor of the year in the Sunrise Park Congregation. Every sister between 13-35 will be begging for his attention. He will consider himself something "very special"; marry at 20 to someone with no money, no personality, no career, no ability to play a sport, carry on a meaningful conversation or read material that will stimulate the mind. However, she will be able to highlight her Watchtower and is probably old enough to wear a bra, high heels and lipstick while going door to door to door. The two will procreate and the vicious, unhappy cycle starts all over again with a new generation sitting at the convention bored out of their minds.

0-40years old. April 12, 2006 was my 20th wedding anniversary. My husband was on the stage giving the Memorial talk. I left before the concluding prayer. The marriage and the religion were over that night with one swift, clean rip of the bandage.

Quotes from the Watchtower that you agree with 100%
by nicolaou injust curious.
add your quotes with no commentary if you like, it should be obvious why you agree.. the dangers of being deceivedthe really sad fact is that very often the person who is deceived or deluded tends to hold on to his belief in spite of strong evidence proving otherwise.
perhaps he gets so emotionally attached to his belief that he simply shuts his eyes and closes his ears to any evidence that might challenge it.. the watchtower, 01/09/ 2010 p10/11.

I remember an article that was the life story of one of the governing body (most likely in the 1980's) and he said "Always error on the side of kindness". Whether this brother walked the walk is rather suspect, but I truly believe we should all live by those words (especially when dealing with children and animals)

My Experience and how I finally let myself see the truth
by OneEyedJoe infirst off - for those lurkers who feel guilty just for being on this site and reading this (even if you don't read any further, as it is your right to choose that course) i want you to know that you're not alone in what you're going through or in what you are feeling.
if you read on, i hope my experience may be of some small help to you.. this may be long, but i'll try to organize it in a way that doesn't make it painful to read.
to start, i feel it is most beneficial if i'm upfront and honest with my goals from posting this, which are (in order of the degree to which they motivated me):.

OneEyedJoe...Thank you so much for your post. I love it when people discover TTATT without blame and resentment. It was what was so appealing about the Ray Franz books.
I have to simplify your post down to one statement of yours (if I may)........ "There was simply no evidence of them ever getting anything right"
Welcome to the Forum!

420/Marijuana/Mary Jane - What Is The Society's Stance Now That It's Legal In Two States?
by Sam Whiskey insorry if it's already been discussed (i did do a search and did not see anything recent) here on the board.
now that 420 has been legalized in washington and colorado, what is the society's stance on this?
is it viewed the same as alcohol, taken in moderation?

I am really interested in the answer to your question Sam Whiskey. Living in Boulder, CO, I can honestly say that the majority of my friends and workmates enjoy the occasional edible now that it is legal. Most of us have an marijuana e-cigarette that is basically smoke free. None of us are "pot heads" but the majority of us are professionals that prefer an edible to a drink on the weekends - no hang overs, no damage to the liver or pancreas, just a peaceful feeling on Friday night :)
I will be interested to follow this thread. Thank you for starting it.

I have not been able to read all the posts - looking forward to doing this tonight. This is slightly off subject, but here are my selfish thoughts on this.....Please, please, please delete my frail, thin, hunched over, extremely shaky 85 year old father. He needs desperately to rest! The elders in the hall say they need him. I hope the CO will have more common sense in areas like this.
