Strange cult that could be a clone of the WTS from the 1920's?
by dissed inas strange and odd as this controlling cult is, it almost describes to a 't' the wts lead by judge rutherford from the 1920's.
the wts back then, that the now jw's do not want anyone to know about.. doomsday group?
narcistic leader?

Interesting that they have hospice and psychological services when there are only 100 members. I believe that to be a little clue about the members.

I would do anything to spend 5 minutes with my beautiful, beautiful brother that was killed in the prime of his life 2 years ago. However, he is gone and has become dust. I have no fantastical ideas that he exists in another realm or that he is anything but the ashes that sit on my dresser. He had a full life when he was alive. I now read a book in his honor and have a glass a wine in his honor and appreciate my life more than I did before. I also feel 80 years will be enough for me (never could understand what was appealing about forever)

alcoholism a clear and present danger for JWs and XJWs?
by quietlyleaving ini was having an interesting discussion with an xjw recently and we both knew of elders who were alcoholic but who were allowed to keep their privileges because their condition was described as a disease.
the elder i knew was also spotted in a drunken state on a couple of occasions.
he kept his privileges.

" Elders have NO training for dealing with the problem AND the organization seems generally opposed to psychiatric help and Alcoholics Anonymous. Some elders are more than just generally opposed to these things. Telling an alcoholic to go out in field service more is not going to help his or her problem."
This says it all...once the drinking is a problem, there is no place to go but to the closet.

100% in our family - all atheists or agnostics
1. Nate - left in his 20's in the late 70's after being in Bethel during the big upheaval
2. Cher - left in her 30's
3. Derek - left in his 30's (was df'ed)
4. Me - lasted until I was 41 and then disfellowshipped 2 years ago
5. Ja - left right out of high school to go to college (was df'ed)
We had 6 kids between the five of us - all born in the troof - all 6 are ACTIVE atheists!
We are all extremely close - due to having more than the usual in common for siblings.

This thread brings back memories of absolute HELL! The teachers in our little town HATED us. They went out of their way to make sure we knew we were scum in their eyes. Throughout grade school my brother Derek and I would be locked in this little room that was saved for the disobedient kids. They always made sure the light was out and we were never allowed a book or anything of the sort. The teachers wanted us to know we were being punished. It seems for a few of those years there was another witness girl with us (the kind that rarely went to meetings, had terrible hygiene, but told everyone she was a JW like me and Derek).
The Jr High years were a little easier, except for the fact that my mother made me wear a dress to school at least once a week. She told me it was because she wanted to make sure everyone knew we were different (as if that fact escaped someone)
High School was much easier because we moved to Denver and I never told anyone I was a JW.
1971-1983 (school years)
Thanks Restrangled for upsetting my stomach

did you find the dubs were always late?
by highdose ini found the higher up the socail rank the dubs got, the more tardy they were for everything, meetings, ministry.
and of course when you invited them round.
so many times i can remeber the food spoiling/burning and 45mins to an hour later they would decide to finaly turn up!

wt wizard: And, I have seen people call in 15 minutes late, needing to be picked up for field circus, and they are not ready when we get there.
This was my ex. We pioneered together for twelve years and 90% of the time we would go back to pick him up after the meeting for field service, we would then all wait in the car an additional 20 minutes while he took a shower. His public talks always ran 15 minutes overtime and heaven forbid if he had the final sevice meeting talk - we all got an extra 10-20 minutes to sit blurry eyed and then we were treated to a 9 minute prayer.

What was worse was when one of these "badboys" was brought door to door.
