i stopped at MacDonalds to grab some coffee... the drive-thru attendant ...one of the brothers from my congo..
Is the above just plain depressing?
let me start with: i havent been to a meeting in almost 2 years, i am "inactive" and the only contact i have w the jw is the an open minded jw friend who i talk to....since i left, i have done what i want, travel, get my nose pierced again (had it pierced before i baptized but they gave me hell for it, even thought the bible doesnt say anything bad about nose piercings) and hang out w "wordly" friends who smoke, drink and swear.... i don't smoke but lately i have been giving this friend a ride and he is a-pack a day type of guy... he left his pack in my car yesterday..... so, i am working evenings this week on a special project, and this morning i decided to run some errands.
i was hungry so i stopped at macdonalds to grab some coffee... i placed my order thru the drive thru and pull over to the pay window, as i look for the money the drive-thru attendant says "wow, hello free!
", i look up and omfg one of the brothers from my congo... i acted like normal (sorry but i dont get nervous of agitated when i see a jw, i just dont give a dang) and smiled and made short conversation, while he is tellng me how much he misses seeing me at the hall, i see his eyes going between my piercing, my jet black goth hair and the pack of cigarettes on my passenger seat.... .

i read on another topic " i remember when i used to carry microphones years ago in the jw cult- only about 30 % had their wt's pre-studied, the rest just wing it i truly believe" and it reminded me that people will assume you are not familiar with the material if you have not underlined, and that there will always be those who observe the lack of ink and consider you must be unprepared (and so 'weaker' than them).. many times i used to fake prestudy just for that reason.
its easy to do, underline a random sentence or 2 in each paragraph or the sited scripture.
you can wizz through an entire article in 3 minutes....did anyone else do that?.
Oh Undercover, we are much alike. I just could not get my hand up - I hated answering - it all seemed so stupid. Yet, at school or in any social setting I was usually the loudest, most charismatic one.

I never underlined anything. My ex felt it was a form a vandalism to write in any book or magazine. He was the PO and never had a mark of any sort in his WT, even when he conducted.
this is a partial video of the morning breakfast table in brooklyn bethel in the late 80s, with lyman swingle hosting... the governing body member who at first tried to shelter ray franz from disfellowshipping, but then within a year or two his spirit was broken and he was a bitter man.. randy (i was there and it was death-dealing, like the death eaters from harry potter!).

How awful to be talking about blowing your nose and using the toilet at the breakfast table.

Loved this statement....
I think it’s much more interesting to live not knowing than to have answers which might be wrong. .

Breakfast at my home X 3.
formerly prominent jw gives his life experience here.. he is mentioned a few times in franz's book & used to be a gilead instructor with ed dunlap , so clearly is aware of apostate issues.
his exceptionally rude letter on page 612 of "in search of christian freedom" to a man whose wife committed suicide betrays a lack of love & understanding for rank & file jws.. .

Dozy, can you post that letter? I would love to read it.
as some of you know my husband got pneumonia on the way down to lake tahoe and wound up in the hospital.
we have not been around anyone that was sick nor did he seem to have a cold he just got pneumonia.
i had, had surgery for hernias amost three weeks ago but i doubt that gave him exposure to pneumonia.. well out of the blue while i was in tahoe a older sister called me and told me one of the elders had bronchitis really bad.
An assembly interview went something like this....
Speaker asking Elder: How is it that you and your family make it to every meeting?
Elder: We do not stay at home unless we are throwing up.
So all the times they are coughing, hacking, high fever and who is to say what else, they are in the front row!
i volunteered to help out at an assembly hall build about an hour away from where i live.. i thought it would be an amazing experience & was looking forward to it very much.. when i went to reception i was asked if i had any trade skills, it was just about then i began to realise because i had no 'blue collar' trade skills i would be treated as a lesser person.........maybe even a slight nuisance.. as all the 'brothers' busily carried out their 'manly' tasks it became quite a discouraging experience because i found other 'unskilled' jw's guarded their jobs very closely & said they did not need any help.. if it was a place of christian joy i did not find.. .

During the 70's and 80's when there was a KH built or a remodel, all the sisters felt they were the most qualified to be the Interior Decorator. Many good friendships were forever lost over the arguments of who was better qualified to choose the curtains, the plastic plants, shag carpet and of course the home made bible-themed quilt on the wall. It was a race to see who would be chosen to paint a mural of the paradise on the wall, which strangely always included children that strongly resembled their own brats.
my father became a witness in 1973 , so just before the 1975 thing.
my sister and i always say that the only reason he became a jw was because he's as tight as a knats chuff and didnt want to buy presents at birthdays or christmas.
i was 6 ys old and my sis was 7 my younger brother was 2 ys old .
Hellenback, thank you so much for sharing your story - so much hypocrisy in that organization
