  There was not a whole lot in the documentary that I have not read on this forum first. A few things I did find interesting ......

  • The amount of money they are worth compared to their membership is jaw dropping.
  • They mentioned that Scientology is really a study into the mind of Hubbard and Hubbard was basically a cartoon writer. His religion came from his space themed comic books... 75million years ago Xenu froze people and dumped them in volcanoes.......
  • When you misbehaved on Sea Org you were thrown overboard (I thought having your name read at the service meeting was embarrassing)

  Even though the documentary offered few new tidbits for us to glean from, the show seems to have set off a fire storm for many others. I am very much enjoying all the "SHOCKED" twitters.

  yes, today is the forum's 15th birthday!.

  i never thought for one moment that it would survive this long or have so many people post so many great subjects over the years.. it is still humbling when i get pm's or emails from people expressing how the site has helped them and of course thanks goes to all the posters who have shared their experiences and make helpful and supportive comments to others who are in the sometimes difficult process of learning the real truth about 'the truth'.. the site has gone through several different incarnations over the last 15 years running on different platforms, different databases and different hosts but we've been able to keep all the old topics.

  the current site is still being developed and i'm hoping to push another major upgrade soon.. i also may have some other news to share soon about the future of the site so stay posted.. until then, here's the the next 15 years!

  hi guys, this is my first post; i thought i should introduce myself.

  i was raised and spent most of my life a jw before i was disassociated, because i refused to stop seeing a non witness girl.

  i must say their decision to cut me off from my family and friends although initially traumatic ended up being the biggest blessing in disguise of my life.

  ABCNews Nightline: Segment on JW absuse cases here......

  here is the segment on the conti abuse case in california and jehovah's witness's response as reported on by the abcnews nightline broadcast which was shown early this morning.

  it really displays some absolutely shocking behavior from not only her abuser and his (supportive) wife, but also the jw attorneys and elders via video.

  i am just blown away by the audacity displayed by these monsters.. we can now understand why governing body member stephen lett slipped in his comments a couple of weeks ago about "untrue reports of child abuse" in one of his talks which can viewed on the cult's website.

  Who leaves first, the husband or wife?

  when it comes to a simple matter of no longer believing the teachings of jw's, it appears to me that it's more common for the husband to make the first move to leave the religion.

  I don’t know which one leaves first but I have noticed it is much easier for a women to leave

  I do not usually comment when I do not agree with something. But, this thread seems to be going in a direction that is hard to swallow.

  For a decade I was planning my escape from the cult. This was not some emotional feeling I had during my period! I was middle aged, uneducated,penniless from years and years in full time service, no work experience and two young girls to protect. I knew I would lose every person I ever was friends with along with my home and marriage. Most days in those 10 years the only option for getting out seemed to be either live on the streets or suicide. It was a calculated escape that was anything but easy.

  I woke up in my 30's, but stuck it out till my 40's when it was obvious my (now ex) husband would never wake up. It was his extreme fanaticism in the religion that really woke me up. There was no common sense in our way of life.....it all became so stupid.
