  i thought long and hard before making this thread, that many will not agree with it but i think there needs to be balance and people to realise there are alternate viewpoints out there on many of these subjects, the ones that are most spoke about on this forum.

  i was recently sent a full message containing mary's book and these links give the rebuttal to many of her points.

  those that are still open-minded enough feel free to look over them even if in the end you still don't agree at least you have heard both the defence as well as the attack as they are on the internet.

  Where else do we go? What else is there? Do JW's have nothing else than this. Debate for hours and when you have them cornered it's "What else is there?" The thousands of people leaving the WTS every year have found something better.

  Honestly examining beliefs can be uncomfortable. Maybe there is nothing else. Just because something is scary does not make it untrue. Fear is not a good reason to believe.

  I have found something better. I don't feel the need to proselytise because everyone must find their own way in life.

  If your estimation of the WT is that it is the best of a bad bunch then that is sad. Let the WT fall or stand on its own merits, not in comparison to anythings else.

  Av - I found that resolution very interesting. I was trying to find the source and anyone with a WTLib CDRom (or 1963 bound volume) will find it on the Nov 15 1963 WT.

  Particularly interesting was in point 5 the UN is described as " this international image of human political sovereignty" and " a man-made political creation". One of the points the apologists use in defence is that the UN is a government and not a political entity so it was ok to use the library just like any municipal facility.

  Something else that came up when I searched in the forum was a thread about a UN resolution in 1968. http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/13009/1.ashx

  The requirements to be an associated ngo never really changed.

  i'm quite a laid back person and am usually happy to sit back and take it all in but i feel i have to speak up.

  i believe everyone is entitled to their opinions and do not like censorship.

  i have been disturbed by the increasing number of misleading posts defending the wtbts.

I have been disturbed by the increasing number of misleading posts defending the WTBTS. Rather than censor, I feel the need to put my opinion out there too.

  Some have said that the members of this forum are hateful and bitter towards the WTBTS and that it is wrong to tear down others' faith and replace it with nothing.

  Here's what I have to say. With or without the internet the WTBTS is doomed to fail miserably. I say this because I have great optimism for the human spirit. As long as we have been human we have been searching for truth and the truth will win out. The idea that newbie/lurkers on this forum need protection from the deception of apostates is a sad leftover of the WT mentality that humans are miserable and can't be trusted to use our brains.

  The idea that you need to replace faith in the WT with something else is nonsense. You don't need anything else. Sure I enjoy delving into history, philosophy and science - they enrich my life greatly - but not everyone wants to or needs to. The basis of morals and ethics is self evident and many people that JWs think are not spiritual or lacking in morals have figured this out all by themselves without need of the internet, science, philosophy or anything other than their brain and their experiences.

  I like people who treat me well, I don't like people who treat me poorly. If I do not treat others well then I am the kind of person I don't like. No person can be happy if they don't like themselves. To be happy therefore I must treat others with love and respect.

  These are self evident facts about life and need no further explanation.

  I know that people will leave the WT JW because it simply does not work. Whether this forum is shut down or is taken over by JW apologists makes no difference. Human beings will always be humans and will eventually wake up and smell the BS. If we all wake up in the morning with no memory at all it makes no difference. The basis of a moral life is still there and will be discovered and lived again.

  I love life, I love humans. Life is for living and humans will keep learning and keep exploring. This is not arrogance, this is optimism.

  Under Section 3 of the Data Protection Acts, you have a right to find out, free of charge, if a person (an individual or an organisation) holds information about you. You also have a right to be given a description of the information and to be told the purpose(s) for holding your information.

  You must make the request in writing. The person must send you the information within 21 days.

  Under Section 4 of the Data Protection Acts, you also have a right to get a copy of your personal information. This applies to all types of information -for example, written details about you held electronically or on paper, photographs and CCTV images. You are also entitled to know where the information was obtained, how it has been used and if it has been passed on to anyone else. All you need do is write to the person or organisation holding the information. You need not quote the Data Protection Acts, but it is a good idea to do so. Your letter might read something like:

  Dear ...
  I wish to make an access request under the Data Protection Acts 1988 and 2003 for a copy of any information you keep about me, on computer or in manual form. I am making this request under section 4 of the Data Protection Acts.

  You should also include any additional details that would help to locate your information - for example, a customer account number or staff number. You may be asked for evidence of your identity. This is to make sure that personal information is not given to the wrong person. When requesting some types of record, such as credit history or Garda records, it may also be useful to provide a list of previous addresses, previous names and your date of birth. You may be asked to pay a fee, but this cannot exceed €6.35.

  Once you have made your request, and paid any appropriate fee, you must be given the information within 40 days (most organisations manage to reply much sooner).

  I would be interested if anyone has experiences with this or similar law in other countries.
