in attending the apostafest this weekend in south lake tahoe it became apparent to me that we all held a common bond in getting out of the jehovah's witnesses cult ; and yet many of us made our escape to freedom in different ways !
some people stopped going to meetings cold turkey, like myself, something just clicks in you after the buildup over years of tension and abuse of justice - just couldn't take it anymore !
other people do a slow gradual fade , some get dfed, or dissassociate, some even get their families out with them, some are the only members of their family who have exited the cult.
A relationship has been a great help to me. I was a "good" JW and really had no "worldy" associates! I had no one that I knew that was not a JW.
Fortunately, the internet has helped us reach out to people. When my wife and I had seperated I had a friend I met online that let me stay at his home while I got back on my feet. I left her with everything.
I have found a new family and a great new circle of friends.
I have a new life and I'm a survivor!

Elder, School Overseer, Book Study Conductor in my own home. Used and Abused. One evening I came home late (1:30 am) from my family's home and the phone rang. The secratary was calling for me to do the Public Talk in the morning. After that, I checked my messages....18. I guess he couldn't do it himself? During one period of elderhood, I gave 3 public talks a month!

i am sure this has been discussed before, would appreciate anything on this.
i was always under the assumption that a jw was not allowed to be an attendant in a 'worldly' wedding.
meaning that you would not be able to be a bridesmaid or groomsman if you were baptized.
I wonder if anyone will freak when I show up to shoot a wedding in a KH with a goatee. Needless to say, the bride and groom don't know I am DF.

so, our circumstances are changing somewhat; a few personal things here and there and a few business things, nothing traumatic.
except this, our time is becoming more and more limited.
we are home less and less.
We have 2 terriers both 13 months old. They seem to do well in their crates in the day time. Mostly they sleep.
We did doggie day camp for our first dog Toby. He did really well.
Our second terrier Molly was abused and abandoned. The animal shelter told us she was hit hard enough to break her pelvis but they helped her heal up and since she's been playing with Toby so much her limping is going away even.
I guess she is much happier with us than living on the street or being mistreated! But she is not socialized well, so we are nervous about sending her to day camp.
But, when she is happy....her whole body wags...

i got the idea for this thread by talking with a friend this weekend who had been abused by a father when young.
this person confronted this parent about it and got a very self righteous reply back from the offender.
already a precedent for exposing the watchtower society has been set.
Maybe we need to start a list on the internet! Let those who have been abused anonomusly post the situation and name of the abuser. I'm sure that would bring on some legal issues though.
