How about you must come to every meeting because big A is around the corner and you never know when it might hit. Next time you go to a kingdom Hall it'll be closed because of the big Tribulation etc. etc and then where would you get your spiritual food blah di blah... it was a constant heightened state of fear.

Preparing for Armageddon
by Wordly Andre inwhen i was a kid i can remember really being scared that armageddon was coming, you know the crap about it's almost here, and i would never live to see high school and all my classmates would be killed by jemima, i used to have nightmares when i was a kid over this.
i know of some family and friends who have since left the org, some have told me stories of how their family would prepare for armageddon, like keeping food and extra copies of watchterror and awacks, and have some kind of rehearsal for the end, some sounds like those old 1950's movietone shorts about preparing for the a bomb, did you or your family do anything weird to prepare for armageddon?

Pedophile crisis expanding among JWs
by laneh init is interesting that the pedophile scandal among jws is broadening.
for example, you will notice recent postings that show the crisis has popped into the limelight in finland and brazil.
it first hit the internet and papers in the u.s., then canada, europe and australia, but not is showing up in south america.

The problem is that these particular groups defend the pedophiles and blame the victims. The victims are not only made to feel it was they're fault, they're forced to confront the pedophile in every meeting. And the abuse persists most of the time. So while I agree that it is a societal problem, the issue here is that most pedophilia within the jw and catholic groups stays never sees the light of day or a police station if it can be helped...

This is a story I heard while growing up. I was born in 76... I guess I was supposed to be a paradise baby. Growing up, I would hear the stories about how "ridiculous" things got in 75... and/or how misguided or misinterpreted the society was back then... they never said 75!!! anyway, moving on.
This brother in the congregations was prepping himself up for the upcoming great Tribulation... and how we're supposed to survive off the land live in the wilderness etc... so he would randomly pick a flower (a rose, daisy, what have you) look at it and say: "how beautiful is jehovah's creation" and proceed to eat it. He claimed we need to learn to eat whatever was available..

I believe that only if you are smart enough to look at the evidence and read before joining ANY KIND of group... of course you wouldn't. I was born and raised a jw so I didn't have a choice. From most of the people who join and many of us who were born and raised will ask, who in their right mind would? The key is precisely that... they're not in the right frame of mind at the moment of joining...
I've spoken to many people from other cults as well and most of them have given me the same answer. At the moment they got preached to they were at a fork in the road of their lives... something had just happened, a divorce, death in the family... something. Remember jw's target certain people as do other cults. They are encouraged to go through obituaries and write letters to those who are grieving...
Most people who join also fall into the false advertisement... who would join if you were told what the requirements are. You are told what you want to here... peace on earth etc etc blah di blah... You are love bombed when you are a study... I remember my congregation acting very differently when there was a potential recruit around... You had to show the good side of the "brother and sisterhood"... False advertisement my friends... jw's are experts at it.

Someone please help me out on this one. Are JW's allowed to help....
by jetery inanyone who is d'fed(like me- dont miss it) or disassociated,etc who may be in dire need.
i know that when u are disfellowshipped u are not allowed to associate with anyone who is a witness and they are suppose to shun u the rest of your life until u come to your "senses".
but anyway what i want to know is if im on the side of the road bleeding to death and one of jw recognize will they stop and help me or anyone for that matter.even when i was in the "truth" i always wondered about that since they are not supposed to have any contact with u. where do they draw the line when it comes to shunning people?

Okay this is a while back when all the apostate stuff and the da/df policies were being "renewed by new light (aka the flickering lightbulb complete with clap-on clap-off)"...
As far as I know if you did see a da/df'd person in trouble on the side of the road you could in fact help... it was a "matter of conscience"... however once the person was on your vehicle you could not speak to them other than to ask what, where and when...or how far to take them... I remember the pious face of my mother saying, of course, it'd be inhuman not to aid someone in need... when the week before she would'nt have helped... at all. So it really depends on the flickering light bulb and what the latest new light dictates...

Hi... I'm an ex-jw and I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. I left the island when I was 16 and came to the U.S.A. I left the jw's not long after I came here... among many other issues that I saw there was a great difference between the jw's over there and the ones over here... My theory is... the closer you get to brooklyn the stricter they are...
Anyway, I did want to say that I am happy if people from other countries are looking info about the sexual abuse and pedophilia. I was molested from the time I was 7 years old til about 14 by 3 different men, all in the family, all jw's one of them a ministerial servant. Unfortunately (or fortunately can't decide which) the elders never found out about the abuse since my mother was quick to blame it all on me and hush it up... (she claims now that she didn't know)...
I do hope that other countries start waking up to the fact that many pedophiles are being harbored inside the wt walls. They are well protected and continue to get away with all kinds of abuse.
