funkyderek...
your summation of my thought process...is no different in nature than the apostates thought process toward apostates and "independent thinkers"
You stated that i said, demons were the source of anything even remotely mysterious and had been my standard explanation for years as to such things...I ask you to please go back and quote where i said such a thing...you saying that is akin to the way the society misquoted various scientists in the creation book...now lemme deduce the reason for you doing that...
AWWW I got it!!! You want to strengthen your augment, by twisting my words to sound as outlandish as possible..typical workings of an inept mind...how about this...refer to my previous post on possible scientific explanations..
here you go...Unfortunately, I did not challenge science...your scientific responses challegened me..simply put...
NEITHER SCIENCE NOR RELIGION DEFINITIVELY PROVE...SCIENCE AND RELIGION ONLY DEFINTIVELY PROVE THE ONE SEEKING THE TRUTH

WHY I believe there is a GOD..listen up...poster named "parakeet"
by dirtyknections insimply put...i believe there is a god..and his name is yhwh aka jehovah..and his son yeshua or yehoshua aka jesus..died for our sins as a propitiatory ransom sacrifice to antone for mankinds sins..i therefore am also a creationist...i do not believe science contradicts the bible...rather i think it agrees and compliments it rather well.. .
i am creating this post in response to comments made in my last post by the poster named "parakeet"... i just thought i should explain myself before he/she starts deducting praise from me (see my last post)..lol...alright here goes.
i grew in a small town in florida called macclenny..population- 20,000.. my mother and her family were raised in this quaint little city...my family on my mothers side has been in this city since the early 1920's...ok...lemme me get to the meat of the story.. .

and those reasonable explanations are...lol..
For the record the reason i haven't experienced much is because my grandmothers house was up the street from the house I grew up in...so i never stayed there for extended periods of time...
Undercover...
If you like you can call me and i will let you speak with some of the people who experienced things in that home...if that is indeed your reason for not believing my "footsteps story"...for the record lemme tell my "footsteps" story...
One night my cousin, who was visiting from Tampa, and I decided to spend the night with my grandmother because she was getting older and began needing help.
Well my grandmother had a certain routine that she followed when she had "company" over...as she liked to call it (man i miss her...oh the stories she used to tell about the "old days"). She would get up about 6am and begin to prepare breakfast. Now mind you this is and extremely old wooden house so when people walk thru the house you can definitely hear. You know it sounds like "doomp..doomp..doomp" when someone walks in the house (yeah i know thats a weak onomonopedia...lol)anyway.. I was awakened by "her" footsteps so I got up to see if I could help her with anything...well when i walked into the living room no one was there..so i walked into the kitchen and then the bathroom..and saw no one..so i didn't thnk anything of it..i just went back to my room...now my cousin was sleeping in the same room. He also heard the footsteps...he asked if grandma was getting ready to cook..i said no...i guess shes still sleep..
Well, about 30 minutes later we heard the footsteps again.."doomp..doomp..doomp..doomp..doomp...doomp...doomp...doomp"..so i immediately walked out again to see if my grandmother needed any help...again i walked around the house and saw no one..i finally walked into her bedroom..she was fast asleep...
When she finally did get up about 30 minutes... later i asked her if she had gotten up and walked around the house earlier that morning...she no, that she had been fast asleep and this is her first time getting out of bed...she later made the comments that those "things" as she called it had been bothring her again...she said, "they" had been moving around her perfume and jewelery on her dresser..
So there you have...my footsteps story...whether you believe or not...makes me no matter...I DO...and thats whats important -

Luna...
i think you are perfectly justified in needing further proof to believe these types of things. you also mention the mental aspect of it. Yes, it is true that certain types of psychosis can cause people to seemingly experience these types of manifestations. My father who is an elder...has worked in the mental health field for 30years. He the Director of Staff Development and Training for Northeast Florida State Hospital...One of the largest Mental treatment facilities i the U.S. Thru Osmosis i have gained a relatively extensive knowledge of Mental Health Practice, Policy, and Procedure..
What my family experienced is not the same thing as what those types of patients experience...shall i prove?
Think about this...in the vast majority of cases...people that suffer from the types of psychosis that cause the types of manifestations we're referring to...see those manifestations continuously...and more importantly the psychosis manifests itself NO MATTER WHERE THEY ARE..in otherwords..
They see "Ghosts", hear voices, and get tortured by "demons"..in their bedroom, at the mall, at Applebee's, at church, while using the restroom at the reststop...
NOT JUST AT THEIR GRANDPARENTS HOUSE...EVERYWHERE
The fact that my families experiences are limitited to just one locale, and also are shared by not just residents of the home...but friends and visitors...shows this to be more of phyical manifestation than a mental..
Also, the poster named "Galileo" mentioned "mass hysteria"
Mass Hysteria has certain charateristics...namely it being a shared experience by multiple people...but the problem with this theory is that one of the other important qualifiers for it to be "mass hysteria" is the fact that experience would need to be shared at the same time and with prior knowledge of the events causing the hysteria...
My point is that...we have had people who had no orior knowledge of the houses history experience the phenomenon..
So you see...To the people involved with the story I told...its real..not in our minds -

All i can say is...
AMEN!!!!!
To the replies in this post...
If you noticed my original post focused on not so much WHAT was being taught..but more the WAY it is being taught..
See here is the thing...I don't have a problem with what the WT teaches...they have the right to teach and believe what they want...I myself still attend the meetings, although I don't agree scriptually with a good portion of whats taught...
What I do have a problem with is the MEthod thats used to indoctrinate people...like some of you mentioned in the post..its a subtle but very effective form of psychological brainwash...I use this simile when describing it..
Its like a child who has questions about what color the sky is. He is seeking answers, so they put trust in his parents or whoever it is they feel comfortable with to give them the answer.
That person says, "Child..the sky is green..and you don't have to worry about wondering if it is indeed green..because I know the guy who created the sky and i talk to him personally all the time. Infact he told me that if anybody has questions about the sky they are to only ask me, because I am the only person in the world he has told what color the sky is" Now this child, because of his level of development, learns to seek guidance from only that source. He does this because he has been assured by that source of the authenticity of that sources message...he continues to rely on this source thru out his life because he has no reason to doubt that source of info...
herein lies the problem..
The child because of the percieved comfort that source gave him at the time of its crisis of conscience, Has instinctively learned to rely soley on that source for the answer to all questions. Therefore, in the process the child never fully learns to form its OWN opinion as to the color of the sky. It just says, "Hey my source of info, has never let me down, so when i have questions i will continue to go to that source of info...not to mention he KNOWS THE GUY WHO CREATED THE SKY"...
Lets do a quick analysis of my simile:
Child= honest hearted people seeking religious truth
The Sky= religious "truth"
Childs source of info= Gov Body/ FDS
And just like Pavlov's Dogs...ring the bell and their mouths will start to water.. -

Please understand that in no way am i discrediting the research of people like Shermer..what i am sayng is that that his research represents HIS findings...they neither prove or disprove anything conclusively...they only prove or disprove for HIM...his research is not exhaustive enough or conducted thoroughly enough to be classified as definitive proof...honestly the methods he uses to reach his result when investigating these houses are not indicitive or representitive of the types of experiences manifest in these circumstances...shall i prove?
Normally, he and researchers like him go into a house for an overnight stay or perhaps a week at the most to conduct research...herein lies the qualifier that makes their research invalid in MY OPINION..
In the overwhelming majority of cases...the phenomenon that people like the ones in my family experienced did not manifest themselves EVERYDAY ALL DAY..but rather they were isolated but consistent occurences over a period of MANY YEARS...so in order to set up a scientific examination that would accurately replicate the environment needed to draw definative conclusions..these researchers need to do ONGOING CONTINUING research over the course of MANY YEARS...has any study been done on a specific paranormal incident that meets all the qualifiers needed to accurately draw DEFINITIVE CONCLUSIONS on the topic...NO...NO..NO..
Therefore any Isolated findings...while worthy of consideration...should not...and frankly can not be used to draw a definitive conclusion...any conclusion drawn from such research is premature and relative and should not be used to formulate a definitive belief...present opinion, maybe...belief no
Oh and for the poster that asked why i used this as a reason to believe in god...maybe i should qualify my statement...It partly shaped my beliefs...science neither disproves or proves the spiritual conclusively...it only conclusively proves or disproves the spiritual for that particular person...
People please remember...your beliefs neither are definitive or absolute...they are only definitive and absolute for YOU...
Ok I step down off the soapbox -

LOL...this forum is a trip..
For the record...i have no reason to lie...i simply gave my reasons for believing in God..If you recall my first post on this forum gave out my real name, city i live, kingdom hall i attend, and my phone number.
Which shows that i am not one to "just shoot arrows out of the fog"...
The stories that I tell, have not only happened to my family but also to many people who have visited that house. Things also happened in the homes surrounding my grandparents house. I think it has more to do with the area the house is located than really the house it self.
Oh before I forget...the way the bible descibes demons fits perfectly the occurences in that home. Demons in the bible took joy in terryfying people. For those that believe the bible, i give you the numerous occasions of demons posessing people. Obviously, that would be a terryfying experience to the person possessed and the people who saw what that person experienced.
Also, some quick words...to all the people who don't believe..thats ok...but be careful how you express your belief or dis-belief...I noticed a tendency to just immediately discredit, demean, and attack what you don't neccesarily agree with or believe in. I also noticed a tendency for a little name-calling.
Are not these some of the same things that you bash the WT about...name calling and generilizing without merit!!!
Contrary to what the folks who believe in science say...millions of people around the world haved experienced extra-physical phenomenon that can not be immediately explained away by scientific theory or methods..to say that science has proven that "haunted houses" don't exist is a LIE...there has never been exhaustive research done on the subject. INDEPENDENT entities have conducted ISOLATED examinations of ISOLATED circumstances, but never has the scientific community banded together to come up with a definitive answer to the subject...
Whats even more disheartening, is that the people who immediately discredited my story, never mentioned if they had done THEIR OWN research..They only stated their OPINIONS..or mentioned something they read..
RESEARCHING IS NOT TYPING IN "HAUNTED HOUSES" IN GOOGLE AND THEN TAKING AS LAW THE FIRST 5 RESULTS YOU READ!!! NEITHER IS WATCHING A FEW "EXPOSES" ON GHOSTS ON THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL.
There is an old mantra in science that i suggest you people follow:
ONLY TRUST... YOUR OWN...RESEARCH!!!!!!
Think about it...if people did not personally research, and only believed what was written, we would still believing the earth is flat or the earth sits on elephants or we would be communicating by letter or using alternative means of transportation...
I wonder what Marconi or Edison or Davinci or Einstein or Archimedes or Copernicus or Newton or Sagan would say about the importance of PERSONAL RESEARCH..I think its obvious by the way they lived their lives..
Now you can call it Demons, you can say Nature, you can call it Manifestations of the mind...but the fact of the matter is that to the person who is experiencing the phenomenon..IT IS REAL..what you call it doesn't matter..
With that said fire away...
You non-researchers..lol ;-) -

Hey,
Part 2 will be up tomorrow..I just got back from my parents house and we had a very intense but constructive conversation...I need to pray and think over the things that were said so that I can post an accurate account of what happened...I don't want anybody saying i took what they said out of context..
real quick check my new post if you like that discusses why I believe in GOD...Hopefully, that gives you a better understanding into why I say some of the things I do

Simply put...I believe there is a God..and his name is YHWH aka Jehovah..and his son Yeshua or Yehoshua AKA JESUS..died for our sins as a propitiatory ransom sacrifice to antone for mankinds sins..I therefore am also a creationist...I DO NOT believe science contradicts the bible...rather i think it agrees and compliments it rather well..

I grew in a small town in Florida called Macclenny..population- 20,000.. My mother and her family were raised in this quaint little city...my family on my mothers side has been in this city since the early 1920's...ok...lemme me get to the meat of the story..
My mother along with her siblings and mother/ father moved into the house I know as my grandparents house in the early 1950's...upon moving into this house strange things started to occur..the first thing that happened involved my grandfather...In my grandparents room they had a stand alone closet that stood on four feet...in otherwords the closet was not built into the wall..well my grandfather worked "puckwood"..aka he was a lumberjack..well he would get up around 4:30 am every morning and get ready to leave for work...well one morning shortly after they moved into the house he got up to get dressed for work...well upon opening the closet he found his work clothes shredded into pieces..
Well you know what he did...he woke up everyone in the house to see who had cut up his clothes...well of course all the kids denied it....therefore he promptly gave everyone a spanking since no one would admit to it...well a couple days later the same thing happened again...again he woke up the house...and again no one admitted to it...instead of spanking everyone he said that he was going to lock his closet and sleep with the key on his necklace...that way he would be able to determine if the kids were indeed doing it...WELL WHAT DO YOU THINK HAPPENED...yep you got it..
The next morning he woke up and all of his work clothes were shredded...and yes the key was still around his neck...suffice it to say...from that point on..all hell broke loose in the house...Ok..to keep from this turning into a novel..i will give you a bulleted list of common occurences in the house
-faces in the wall
-voices calling your name
-doors being marked upped and scratched
-spirits manifesting themselves as dogs, snakes, "devils, old women,
-people being choked
-covers being snatched off of people
-faces being caressed
-items moving and flying across the room
-items on the back porch being thrown about
-constant footsteps when nobody is there
-walls shaking
....and so on
I personally have experienced the "footsteps" many times.. and just for the record this has not only happened to just family but also to friends and visitors of the family..these things occur right up until this day...
My Uncle who lives in the house now that my grandparents have passed says he regularly... sees ominous figures...hears voices..footsteps..just recently he said upon emerging from the shower there was a dog-like creaturem on the dining room table that growled at him then jumped down and disappeared under the table...my mother just recently says she was sitting up there by herself waiting for my uncle and father to return when she heard loud footsteps in the back of the house...and they continued for about 20 mins and then stopped when she called on God's name...
Just so we are clear...the people who grew up in that house are now...nurses, hospital administrators, pastors, wood craftsmen, teachers, lawyers, and so on...i say this just to show you that my family aren't wack jobs...they are normal people who represent every level of the socioeconomic scale..I myself am a teacher who now runs his own business...I am a state certified teacher with dual degress in Entertainment Business and Recording Arts/ Music Theory
I literally could tell you hundreds of things that happened in that house!!!!
To sum up...I deduced rather quickly that...if their are evil spirit beings...there are obviously Good ones...AKA IF THE DEVIL AND HIS DEMONS ARE REAL...I KNOW GOD AND HIS SON ARE...
Thank You...fire away "parakeet" -

Jadon....
THe problem with your logic...is that you ASSUME the information YOU have gathered into YOUR storehouse
will save lives...thats contrary totally to what Gods word the bible says...
2 Timothy 3:16 says, "all SCRIPTURE is inspired"...Ephesians 5:6, says to "let no man decieve you with empty words"...John 3:16 further lets me know that only Gods' provision of his sons ransom sacrifice can save us...so you can trust and follow in "Jadon's storehouse of info" if you like... I only follow Christ..
You should be careful, the bible says do not lean upon your on understanding...Gods' word is the only guide for us...Adam and Eve trusted in the devils "storehouse of info" and look where it got them..
Be careful that a serpent hasn't guided you to forbiden fruit...the consumption of that type of "fruit" can has everlasting repercussions -

So me and my father who is an elder get into yet another rather tense discussions about the bible
and my new found "beliefs". One of the things we discussed was my belief that the way we conduct studies...
i.e. watchtower, revelation climax, bible teach...is not really studying but forcefeeding and leading to an already pre-prescribed answer...AKA the student is not really learning with discernment and wisdom, but rather just repeating the printed "answers" in the paragraphs.
Me being a teacher by trade, I understand intensely what it means to "teach". Experience shows that just because a student can regurgitate what is read, DOES NOT IN ANYWAY mean that student understands what they just read. The only way to ignite comprehension and understanding is thru the use of higher order questioning...you know something akin to "blooms taxonomy"...instead of "who", "what", and "where"..more "what if" and "what do you think"..lemme give you an example..
"As I was walking, I saw a dog chase a cat across the road."
Low order question- What chased the cat across the road?
High order question- What are some of the possible reasons the dog began chasing the cat?
Higher order question- Normally cats are afraid of dogs and will run if pursued by them. What do you think would happen if cats were no longer afriad of dogs? Cats are also highly trainable. What types of things would you teach a cat so as to help lessen its fear of dogs?
In teaching circles we call this "stepping up questions"...the key is to go from simple understanding to "synthesis", "evaluation", and "inferring"
I hate to be overly critical but the Watchtower and its adjoining publications , if used by themselves, are hardly suitable,to "teach". Because, of the inherent nature and form of the questions, if used by itself the Magazines and publications hardly do more than force the student to repeat the read info. Therefore, what you have is a group of people, who are nothing more than tape recorders. They record information and can play it back, but they do not fully understand what they have recorded.
I am firm believer, and my experience as a teacher proves, that a student only truly begans to comprehend when he becomes an "independent thinker". Until you develop that key learning skill, you will only have a human tape recorder, who tru to form, does exactly as it is told...never what IT discerns to be right...
PART 2 of this convo...coming later
