The Premier of Quebec during the 1950's was Maurice Duplessis, he hated the witnesses and did all he can to persecute them, WT loved the publicity.

"Each of those churches show certain books, which they call revelation, or the word of God. The Jews say, that their word of God was given by God to Moses, face to face; the Christians say, that their word of God came by divine inspiration: and the Turks say, that their word of God (the Koran) was brought by an angel from Heaven. Each of those churches accuse the other of unbelief; and for my own part, I disbelieve them all"
" Do we want to contemplate his power? We see it in the immensity of the Creation. Do we want to contemplate his wisdom? We see it in the unchangeable order by which the incomprehensible whole is governed! Do we want to contemplate his munificence? We see it in the abundance with which he fills the earth. Do we want to contemplate his mercy? We see it in his not withholding that abundance even from the unthankful. In fine, do we want to know what God is? Search not the book called the Scripture, which any human hand might make, but the Scripture called the Creation."
1794, Thomas Paine, The Age of Reason
Amazing book written over 200 years ago.

So we are created in God's Image and expected to freely forgive those who trespass against us..so why doesn't HE?
by StoneWall inwe kinda all know the scriptures about freely forgiving those who trespass(sin) against us and jesus words about forgiving up to seventy-seven times etc... then we take into account how god hates two sets of scales to measure with: (quotes from nwt).
proverbs 20:23 " two sorts of weights are something detestable to jehovah, and a cheating pair of scales is not good.. proverbs 20:10 " two sorts of weights and two sorts of ephah measuresthey are both of them together something detestable to jehovah.. so my question is this.
why not lead by example?.

“God did not create man in his own image. Evidently, it was quite the other way about, which is the painless explanation for the profusion of gods and religions, and the fratricide both between and among faiths, that we see all about us and that has so retarded the development of civilization.”

The Truth Does Set One FREE!!!
by fedup inwe all can find comfort in writings, books, commentaries, magazines, etc... that make us think and reason intelligently and sometimes, set us free from ridiculous traditions.
what's funny is that the famous quote in the subject line is from the bible and applies to itself.. when many of us (jws) read coc from raymond franz, we learnt that we don't have to go too far to find the hypocrisy and the incredible lies that discredit the wt, he actually used the wt publications to tear apart the org and comfort and free many of us from the chains that we lived with in the jw world.. i just read the age of reason by thomas paine, this book does to the bible what coc did to the wt.
what a great read!

I just read The Age of Reason by Thomas Paine, this book does to the bible what COC did to the WT. What a great read! I wish I would have read this YEARS ago. This book was written over 200 years ago, what I can say is that the writer had BALLS. He questioned ALL authority, and with reason. I'm sure many of you read this, but I haven't really seen many references of this and I wish I would have. There are so many points in this book that are right on the money. He uses the bible to discredit itself.
Here's one quote below that starts off part 2 of the book.
"IT has often been said, that anything may be proved from the Bible, but before anything can be admitted as proved by the Bible, the Bible itself must be proved to be true; for if the Bible be not true, or the truth of it be doubtful, it ceases to have authority, and cannot be admitted as proof of anything. - Thomas Paine - The Age of Reason, 1795
Do any of you have any comments on this book??

Does anyone have an article where the WT states that the door-to-door preaching work is the most efficient wat to spread the good news?

The numbers would be more realistic if the field reports were anonymous. Everyone would be more honest. But since all the judging from the elders and CO's are based on those reports, majority panic and show up on Saturday or Sunday mornings, even if it would be the last thing they would want to do. Fear of man is what propels this group more than fear of God.

New Baptized: 263K
If we do the math, it took about 6,464 hours of preaching to have 1 person baptized in 2011. An average publisher preaches about 10 hours per month, therefore, it takes 1 publisher almost 54 years of preaching to convert 1 person into a jw. This is without subtracting the jw's kids that may almost be half of the newly baptized.
Does the WT still write that door to door preaching is the most efficient way to spread the good news?
