I was looking at the Watchtower i was given this week, July 1. A 'quote' on page 7 really stood out to me, and i noticed that there was no reference as to where this quote came from, or even a name of the person quoted. Is this common in the WT? Is there someplace where they give their sources? I don't see any footnote number ,etc. ??

Another JW encounter
by AuntBee ini thought i might have been placed on the do not call list, but apparently, it was just one pesron that chose not to stop at my house her last time down our street.
i was surprised more came this close to the last visit!
(they need to work on their territories/organization, lest people really become annoyed and feel harrassed with 2 visits in a row.).

Thanks for the encouragement, and all the great info you guys provide on JWN! Thanks for the interesting link, Blondie.
Bane: Although i do have a few good friends who are genuine apostates, i believe the proper appellation for me would be "opposer".

Thanks, although i think i would do one thing differently. Instead of asking them - would you like to see it in the literature, i'd say, excuse me for a second, and just bring it out without asking first. An ex-JW friend suggested i just bring it out.

Anyhoo, it was 2 older ladies, in their seventies. The one was clearly the leader. First off, she hits me with the divine name. I made a few points like God has various names in the bible, and why did the WT put it in NWT when it is none of the over 5,000 Greek manuscripts. She claimed it was. whatever. yawn. But she moved on to other topics quickly. Read me a verse from Isaiah.
I inquire about the latest definition for "generation" given at the convention, and were they aware of the previous 6? You will never believe what her answer was?.......NEW LIGHT! I replied that new light means you know more about something, not change it to something contradictory, etc. Mentioned the "new light" on immunizations and organ transplants, and we're talking here about issues that have killed people, so 'new light' doesn't do it for me. The leader lady was getting kind of mad, but the other lady looked really startled, and i knew she was hearing stuff she never heard before.
Leader changes subject to JW being God's organization because they teach Biblical doctrines that no one else does. I said, oh yah, Jesus chose them in 1919, right? I mentioned just a few of the things they were teaching at that time, as well as what they really predicted for 1914. They denied it, and said where do you get this stuff? I said from your own history. She said no, i'm sure you get this from 'books' (The word "books" pronounced with a sneer). I said, well, yah, i know you'd be in trouble if you looked at 'contrary' information. She denied that outright. I said a lot of it is in the WT literature, would you like me to show you? She said no. I said, well come back ANY TIME, and i'll show you. ANd i was mostly looking at the other lady, who wasn't saying much.
Then she handed me the latest WT, and said they had to go now.
Oh, ps, also mentioned that WT literature said you'd be led astray into aspotate thinking if you studied the Bible without the "Channel." They said that's not true, offered to show them, they said no.

King of the roost may be annoyed, but it's not nearly as problematic as bringing PUPPIES home when there is a cat already! YIKES. LOL

Dead Poets Society. -- Not about religion or cults , per se, but about boys from very wealthy families, whose families functioned as a mini-cult. Their lives were completely planned out, and they weren't allowed to become/find their real selves. A new teacher comes who challenges them to "seize the day", even though it will rock the boat big time. I've watched it a few times. -- Great quotes from SHakespeare and other classic poets throughout.

Hit and Run Convention Invite!
by AuntBee indoorbell rings, nicely dressed young woman doesn't even look me in the eye, quickly says "we're passing these out in the neighborhood to invite you to an event at the tucson community center", and scampers off before i even knew what hit me!
she reminded me more of someone who was hired by a business to pass out flyers, rather than a deeply religious person that cares about me or my destiny.
wow, it was borderline kind of rude, i thought..

Emerged - Yes, i got that impression. And knowing from this forum, some about the mindset/pressures she has undoubtedly faced, my heart does go out to her.
Another interesting aspect, is that i just very recently covered my own neighborhood with pamphlets detailing the less appealing/known JW doctrines, as well as a sheet with the news release about the recent death of Joshua in the UK, with his photo and a short explanation about the blood doctrine. So, i wonder if that was impacting their reception today?

Frugal Ideas for a Beautiful but Inexpensive Wedding!
by StAnn inas i've proclaimed so loudly, my oldest son is getting married next year.
we have a small budget (about $5k) and they want a wedding with three bridesmaids, three groomsmen, and a catered reception.
thus far, my son is going to load his ipod with music.

My daughter got married in October, and one thing that saved people a lot was that the bridesmaids bought their own dresses. She just told them what color to buy. Groomsmen bought their own pants and shirts (matching colors), and vests/ties were rented. I think this is an idea that's catching on, rather than spending hundreds, or asking others to, on ridiculous dresses they'll never wear again. -- WE found cute stuff for favors, those boxes of going away bubbles, etc, at the DOLLAR store; i kid you not! :) Good luck. Personally i love smaller weddings, that aren't huge productions or displays of wealth. Where family and freinds help, i think it was really special.

Congrats! Is that the group that does routines with the marching band? THey're very cool! :) Some of their routines at our kids' high school were pretty amazing and complicated. You'll have a ton of fun going to watch her.
