Anyone Going to Church Yet?
by prophecor ini've started attending church, recently.
it feels great to be able to worship with vigor and feeling.
still have the occasional trappings of having been a witness and guilt about goung to satan's house.

We go to a non-denominational church too and we love it. They church really loves having ex-JWs in attendance, too, as they get a kick out of all of our WTBTS inspired hang-ups...

Five beneficial reasons why not knowing the day or hour can help us - another recording from the DC
by insearchoftruth indid not capture anything but the overarching topics here....but more on the end...... .
five beneficial reasons why not knowing the day or hour can help us.. .
listened to another section of auntbees recording, here are the five points the speaker makes why it is good we dont know......the focus sure seems to be on distancing themselves from the missed dates, while still stirring up a lot of fear and concern about being at the end of the end.

Where is the Love
by dearone inhi i'm dearone i have been reading here for quite some time.
presently am an active witness in good standing with two teenage daughters.
what originally brought me her was disillusion with the lack of love i experienced in the congregations i have attended.

Welcome. You'll find others here who left the Org for the same reasons you did.

Were your kids distressed after time with JWs?
by hamsterbait ini am asking this as i think testimony from first hand could help people see what danger they leave their children in with jw baby sitters etc.. my friends let their 10 yr old daughter stay the weekend with her jw cousins.. when she came back she was having nightmares, bursting into tears, clingy (as her mother might be killed at armageddon before she got home from school).
and asking explicit sexual questions, (yes they had taken her to the kingdumb hell).
i am repeating this post as it disappeared the first time.

To address the question the OP posted (and not to be sidetracked by Reniaa's myopic bletherings), my son was deeply affected when we left the Witnesses. We had to speak to his teacher and the head teacher at his school to explain his sudden change in behaviour. He'd suffer panic attacks if he heard things like heavy machinery in the distance as he'd think it was Armageddon starting.
I should point I, we never, ever stressed Armageddon to him when we were Witnesses. I refused to study the WTS approved publications and would always speak about Jesus in our family study, or focus on something fun like nature and the planet.
So, where did he pick up the Armageddon anxiety?

I was roundly shunned by my 12 year old nephew at my brother-in-law's wedding last Friday. We used to be close, but whenever we passed by (my daughter was dragging me around after her while she played with her cousins) he would quickly avert his eyes from me. My wife believes that's a decision he's made himself.
She could be right. He's being raised in a religion where churches are evil, are part of the satanic Babylon the Great and anyone who willingly goes to church is a wicked person who is going to die at Armageddon. His uncle and his aunt now fall into that category (plus we're apostates).
Or it could be his parents are indoctrinating this into him.

Further Punishements
by passwordprotected inpraise gathering 2009 is taking place in glasgow this weekend.
we've been given tickets to tonight's concert as a gift.
to explain, praise gathering is a concert with a full orchestra and 400 singers.

I like that you are taking the child(I assume that is who Cameron is) to the concert. That'll show 'em:)
To be honest, the fact that it'll show 'em (and it will) wasn't really the primary reason. He actually quite likes Christian praise music and we thought he'd get a kick out of the concert, first and foremost.

Just been visited
by scotinsw ini have just been visited by two local jws who had heard i had moved into the area and wanted to say hello.. i'm going to be having words with my parents later as they are the only people who could have given out my name and address.. they were ok with me.
i explained that i had been let down in the past by witnesses and that being a jw wasn't for me.
any idea what will happen next?

Did you say that "being a JW isn't for me"? If so, it may be wise to avoid making similar statements as an elder may quickly follow that up with, "are you saying you don't wish to be known as one of JWs?". Answering in the affirmative, especially in front of 2 witnesses, may result in you having disassociating yourself.
