But we're not talking with Catholics, we're talking with Jehovah's Witnesses who are controlled by a publishing corporation who happen to claim to be God's spokespeople on earth. Surely asking for proof of such a claim isn't a bad thing? Unless they're a cult...

Selection of the JWs in 1918/1919 - how might a JW attempt to show from the Bible
by insearchoftruth ini had asked my wife, who is in the study phase with a jw sister about the selection of the jws by jc in 1918/1919 time frame and she had actually never heard of that.. the husband of this woman she is studying with has been chomping at the bit to talk to me...well my wife said she will ask him to come show me, using only the bible, how this selection was made...of course she did not clear this request with the dubman before telling me she would do this.. i am guessing he will be there when i get home from work tomorrow, she is also torturing our son with a bs now (her son from a previous marriage).. what sort of reach do you think he will try to make to show this...i am guessing he will try to show 1914 from the daniel/revelation stuff, if he does this i am going to ask him to show 607bce from a non jw source....since i believe it is 586/587 bce as a starting date......i hope to keep him on the 1918/1919 topic, and have some examples of their beliefs from that era to talk about as well.

My life ... and how JWD came to be - Part 5
by Simon inmy life ... and how jwd came to be - part 1. my life ... and how jwd came to be - part 2. my life ... and how jwd came to be - part 3. my life ... and how jwd came to be - part 4. i swear, i thought it was only a couple of years at most since i wrote part 4 of "my life and how jwd came to be".
i re-read it after someone posted to it and brought it back on active topics and it was kind of prophetic in a way ... well, i had the 5 years part right if nothing else:.
it would be nice to visit the site (or whatever one is around then) in 5 years time to let people know how we're doing and find only a few of the same people still around.

Thanks for sharing this. You and I share the opinion that our families, our parents in particular, are happy to choose a publishing corporation over the children they produced. Tragic, really.
Great story, we're jealous of you being able to move so far away from the UK. I've always fancied Canada since reading "Girlfriend in a Coma".

Bill Cetnar tells a lie ....
by Raphael innot the way to refute watchtower theology:.
bill and joan cetnar make a statement that russell said he spoke to angels , this is a blatant lie and we know what the bible says about liars .... he also says that russell claimed to be the fds and the laodicean messenger, both statements are misleading .
russell never claimed in any of his writings that he spoke to angels or was the aforementioned messenger or the fds , rather it was some of his associates that suggested he may be.. the cetnars also make a number of other poorly researched and misleading statements that sadly bring their own characters into disrepute .. .

WTBTS & OSCE etc.
by Kent init would be hard for the wtbts to deny their open connections to osce and other political forums.. http://www.jw-georgia.org/eng/rights/00octoscehrwf.htm.
this link is from an official jw website, and i believe those interested in such connections should take a long and hard look at the russiand and other jw sites.
it seems they are more "open" as to admit, and not least - use - their un connections as a tool of the trade.. i have reasons to believe the wtbts will try to use as defence that "human right issues are non-political" - and as such say the un connection is really a non-issue.

Having been to the funeral of a child - our own baby - I can say it's an incredibly arduous ordeal (stating the obvious...), but we found all of the staff at the crematorium to be very sensitive and kind.
The muppets in this story need a boot up their backside.

DNCall Unmasked - Part 4 of 5
by DNCall instartfragment.
even though i didnt have the title of elder, i was still active in my work at bethel and the congregation used me as much as possible.
when the congregation recommended that i once again serve as an elder, one elder raised the objection that that barbara was a low-hour publisher.

Non-Existent First Century GB / Council Quotes from Old Publications?
by Ultimate Reality ini am looking for any references regarding the existence or (even better) the non-existence of a first century council / governing body in old watchtower publications.
it would most likely center on acts 14 and 15.. many of us have heard the fred franz recording about how there was no such body in the first century.
anybody have any pre-1970's quotes on this subject?.

Using the Bible to prove there was a 1st Century Governing Body? Fail.

Disfelowshipping Statistics
by foolsparadise inremember when the society used to say that the majority of ones df'ed each year was because of immorality.
i bet you anything the majority each year is for apostacy because they figure out this whole truth fiasco is nothing but a big lie.
the society would rather have people think it is for immorality.

Between the two local congregations there are around 200 publishers. In the past 12 months there has been 3 disassociations and 1 disfellowshipping. All for apostasy.

LeavingWT is right; I haven't attended a church where belief in and understanding of the Trinity are in anyway expected or required. When we were baptised we weren't quizzed on it, for example.
